Once Burned (Night Prince, #1) by Jeaniene Frost

She’s a mortal with dark powers…
After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person’s darkest secrets through a single touch. Leila is doomed to a life of solitude…until creatures of the night kidnap her, forcing her to reach out with a telepathic distress call to the world’s most infamous vampire…

He’s the Prince of Night…
Vlad Tepesh inspired the greatest vampire legend of all—but whatever you do, don’t call him Dracula. Vlad’s ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him—a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.

. . .

What a way to close out the first month of summer! If you ask me, this week’s selection of new book releases (by no means exhaustive) covers a nice range of styles and subgenres. It was a real toughie trying to figure out which book to place in the featured position. Gena Showalter has a very much “highly anticipated” new series, Angels of the Dark. Everyone loves a new installment of Nicole Peeler’s Jane True series; same with the beloved Stacia Kane. And new series The St. Croix Chronicles is nothing if not intriguing, based on the premise and subgenre alone (Steampunk mystery). But in the end, it seems like Jeaniene Frost’s new spinoff Once Burned is what’s got many bookish folk abuzz. The author’s Night Huntress series seems to be a spinoff factory. ^_^

Any new releases going to make it onto your bookshelves this week?

Two hot Paul Marron covers this week: ONCE BURNED and Katherine Irons’ WATERBORNE!

The man’s a chameleon, I tell you! He blends right into covers. I can’t believe the cover of Once Burned and the cover of Lothaire features the same man. <3

Oh yes, Tarnished is on my radar, for genre AND cover. The last book I bought purely based on cover was a big win (Blackbirds!), so here’s hoping that streak continues.

Haha. I checked and, yep, I’d pre-ordered Tarnished–probably because of the cover. (I confess–so shallow.) I wasn’t familiar w/ Cooper but saw that she also wrote another series. Very interested in this book/author now.

Speaking of cover models, does the guy on Kwan’s Asher’s Invention remind anyone else of Bob Dylan? I’ve ordered it and am curious about the story.

I’m not going to tell you how many of these I’d already ordered, but I still managed to find a couple of new ones. I didn’t realize Kelly Meding had a new series, so I had to get Changeling (and the book before it). Ditto w/ the Anderton book(s).

I was surprised when the new Peeler book showed up on my Kindle. There was a time when I’d have been chomping at the bit for a new Jane True story, but this one snuck up on me. I immediately started reading it and felt kinda lost. Then I remembered that I’d fizzled out on the book before this one–just wasn’t feeling the love. Guess I need to force myself back to Eye of the Tempest and catch up. But I don’t like it when reading is work. I went back to the book I was already reading and will get back to Peeler later.

Dust Girl and Hunter and Fox went on the wish list.

I want to read the new releases by Elizabeth Hoyt, Loretta Chase and Jill Shalvis.

Has anyone been keeping up with the Keri Arthur Dark Angels series? I haven’t started it yet, and I was looking for a recommendation.

Yes! Chasing Magic by Stacia Kane!! I’ve ordered it from Book Depository so hopefully it gets here really soon. I’m a total Downside/Terrible fangirl.

Funny thing about Once Burned is, even I preorder it because well, Jeaniene Frost write it and Paul Marron is on the cover, I’m still not read C&B book #5 and #6 *gasp*. So I really, really patience to wait for my copy 😉

Can’t wait for Wicked Nights, and Thief of Shadow feature virgin hero, oh yum!
