Book Blurb:
Divorced mother of one, Charlie Madigan, lives in a world where the beings of heaven and hell exist among us, and they aren’t the things of Sunday school lessons and Hallmark figurines. In the years since the Revelation, they’ve become our co-workers, neighbors, and fellow citizens.
Charlie works for ITF (Integration Task Force). It’s her job to see that the continued integration of our new “friends” goes smoothly and everyone obeys the law, but when a new off-world drug is released in Underground Atlanta, her daughter is targeted, and her ex-husband makes a fateful bargain to win her back, there’s nothing in heaven or earth (or hell for that matter) that Charlie won’t do to set things right.
My Thoughts:
Sometimes there is nothing like a hardcore Urban Fantasy novel to get your blood pumping. Add in a kick-ass heroine with a mystery past, high stakes, an interesting and quirky sidekick and a fast paced story full of intrigue and mysticism that has you gripping at the edge of your seat; no way you can be unaffected and I guarantee you cannot put this book down.
Charlie Madigan works for the police in a task force that is responsible for the relationship between humans and beings that defy reality as we know it. Things go down hill when the criminal world she works to keep at bay, invades her family life and she needs to protect those who she holds dear.
I loved this book and Charlie as a heroine was just perfect. It was great to get a mom as a heroine, it’s not something we get to see often and when a kid is involved the stakes are always extremely high.
The Better Part of Darkness is a full plate of awesome for any Urban Fantasy fan. A lot of action, megalomaniac villains and secret experiments that have dire consequences in our future.
Kelly Gay’s new series is here to stay and I just can’t wait for the next installment of the Charlie Madigan series.
I give The Better Part of Darkness 4 out of 5 Bookies!
