My inspiration for our virtual tour this week comes from my recent delve into Oedipus Rex (which I reviewed on my personal blog
here.) While finding actual pics of what Greece looked like circa 429 BCE, when Sophocles originally wrote this tragic play, is difficult, the Greek civilization is one that has endured, evolved and been remembered for thousands of years. We can still readily find architecture and landmarks that highlight the ancient aspects of their culture, but also see what Greece has become over these millenia. Everytime I see articles in magazines featuring this stunning country (yes, the shiny pictures always grab my attention), I sigh and think, “One day…” So, feast you eyes on Greece and travel with me, vicariously:
Whether you like exploring history or maybe a cruise around the Mediterranean (and really, who wouldn’t?), Greece seems to be a vacationers paradise. What do you think? Have I just added this destination to your wish list? I hope so 🙂

Beautiful photos, great way to start this gray Monday, tahnk you! 🙂
I ahve been to Greece several times and can't get enough of it! The weather is amazing, the scenery is breathtaking, the people are all friendly and the food is delicious! Greece is an amazing place to spend some holiday, and ideal for anyone: there are so many fantastic cultural sights to see, but if you'd rather relax the sea and beach is beautiful!
Greece is my country, is where I am from, is where I've lived all my life.I cannot possibly be objective when commenting on its beauty.Yes, there are tons of things that have gone, going and I believe will continue to go wrong in this country.God knows how many times I wanted to leave here and live abroad.Regardless of all of that, I love my "home" with all my heart, it's beautiful and you should all come and visit, especially during the summer!
Also Stella is right:think of the fantastic food and the amazing beaches!
Thanks for stopping by and sharing your stories! Just makes me want to visit all the more 🙂
I have to read Rex for school next year and I'm a bit hesitant about it because a lot of my friends have not liked it. But seeing these pics makes me want to read it!
The good thing about Oedipus Rex is that it's short, lol (about 56 pages). Just keep in mind the awesome scenery and you'll get through it quickly 🙂
I've always wanted to visit Greece… it's just such a gorgeous country.
*hugs*
Anna
Greece has been on the list to visit for some time. But I would love to visit it more than just in books. 🙂 I think it would be a facinating place to vacation and learn from. Thanks for the amazing pictures!
Anna – I know, right? Just the colour of the water alone makes me sigh…
Melissa – Yep, I'm the book traveller too. I got a tip from an author last week, though, that using Google Earth helps when you can't actually go to the place you're writing about. Shall we virtually meet in Greece? *G*
Hey Jackie, is there a tour guide there for us? 🙂 I would love to take a trip to Greece. We could really get a lot of front row seats of the sights that way. To Google Earth we go. 🙂
