Hey everyone! We at Book Lovers Inc. would like to give a very warm welcome to Author Chloe Neill. I, The Crazy Lover, am a huge fan of her Chicagoland Vampires series and the Dark Elite series (YA)… I am really excited about the new book coming out soon, Twice Bitten.
Chloe Neill is here today for a Giveaway and Interview, YAY! The details for the giveaway are at the bottom of the post!
Enjoy!
The Crazy Lover: First of all, We’d like welcome you to Book Lovers Inc.!
Chloe Neill: Thanks so much for having me!
The Crazy Lover: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?
Chloe Neill: Sure. I was born in the Southern U.S., but now live in the Midwest with my two dogs, Baxter and Scout. I love to
bake, and I have a dayjob, and I’ve been writing fiction for about five years now.
The Crazy Lover: What’s your favorite book at the moment?
Chloe Neill: I’m currently reading WORLD WAR Z by Max Brooks, and I love it. Such an interesting look at politics and what might
happen in the event of a world zombie crisis.
The Crazy Lover: What do you think is the difference between a reader and a real Book Lover?
Chloe Neill: Readers pick up a book when they’re on a plane or don’t have anything better to do. Book Lovers plan out their
reading time; if they have an opportunity, they’re reading. 🙂
The Crazy Lover: In which genre would you place your Chicagoland Vampires series?
Chloe Neill: The CV series is urban fantasy with a romantic element. It has the world-building and action of an urban fantasy
series, and there’s no “happily ever after” within each book. But I do hope to give Merit a happily ever after.
The Crazy Lover: What about your YA series?
Chloe Neill: The Dark Elite series is young adult fantasy.
The Crazy Lover: What has drawn you into writing about the paranormal?
Chloe Neill: I love reading paranormal books, and writing paranormal books is just as fun. I get to use modern technology, but
make up my own supernatural rules! You can’t ask for a better mix of fun than that!
The Crazy Lover: Can you tell a little bit about you Chicagoland Vampires series and your Dark Elite series?
Chloe Neill: Sure! Both series actually take place in Chicago. In CV, we meet Merit, a 28 year-old grad student who’s changed into
a vampire against her will. With the help of her friends, she must come to terms with the fact that she’s now a warrior
with one of the oldest Houses of vampires in the country. Book three in the series, TWICE BITTEN, will hit shelves on
July 6!
In the Dark Elite series, we meet Lily Parker, a 16 year-old from upstate New York. Under mysterious circumstances,
she’s sent to boarding school in Chicago, where she meets a group of magic-wielding teenagers and learns that things
really do go bump in the night. The second book, HEXBOUND, will be released in January.
The Crazy Lover: Was “Some Girls Bite” your first novel? How long did it take to write it?
Chloe Neill: It was my second novel, actually. It took about four months to write, and an additional four or five to edit (as I was still very new at fiction writing).
The Crazy Lover: I have to say that I loved the Chicagoland Vampires series and it’s characters. How many books do you have planned in the series?
Chloe Neill: Thanks so much! I love them, too. 🙂 There are currently 4 books under contract, but I have lots more books planned, so we’ll have to see how sales go!
The Crazy Lover: What about for the Dark Elite series, your YA series?
Chloe Neill: There are currently three books under contract, although I could also write many more adventures for Lily and Scout.
The Crazy Lover: Describe a typical day of writing? Are you a planner or pantser?
Chloe Neill: I have a day job, so I typically write in the evenings (1,000 word count minimum) when I’m actually drafting a novel for a deadline. My contracts (as many do) require that I turn in outlines, so I’m a planner by necessity.
The Crazy Lover: Do you have any plans or ideas for more books or series?
Chloe Neill: I do. I have ideas for two more series currently, but no time to write them!
The Crazy Lover: What is up next in your schedule?
Chloe Neill: I’m currently writing the fourth novel in the CV series, and I’m about to start editing the second novel in the DE series.
I’m also very excited about the release of TWICE BITTEN in July!
The Crazy Lover: Thanks so much for taking the time to answer our questions!
Chloe Neill: You’re very welcome! Thanks so much for having me!

I think the answer to the difference between a reader/book lover is exactly right. I have to plan to read during a certain 8 month old beast's naps. Sometimes I think I try to look for signs that she's sleepy that really aren't there.
I also liked world war z, it was a good book. What book do you think has personally influenced you most?

I enjoyed the first book in the Chicago Vampire series and looking forward to the next one! tWarner419@aol.com
One of my favorite things about Merit is her appreciaton for Chocolate. How much chocolate do you eat?
Chloe, I love your blog, which I follow. ANd, a couple of times I have seen the "day job" thing. Is the day job something you will continue regardless of the fame and fortune which will surely result from your books? Is it a vocation such as brain surgeon, nun, undertaker,…? Or is it a drudgery job that you only do to eat and pay rent?

I think it's very interesting to learn about how much writing you do everyday on top of your day job. I hope you still get enough sleep!! I wrote a book for NaNoWriMo and aimed for 1600 words a day and that can be tough sometimes. Kudos!
I haven't read you as of yet but intend to. I love vampires. I have developed such a love for reading that I carry my books around with me all day long. That way I can read whenever I have a break in my day.
Thank you.
I'm so excited for the release of Twice Bitten. I like your distinction between a reader and a book lover! I'm most definetely a book lover; I ALWAYS have a new book ready after I finish one. I'm really glad there'll be a fourth CV book. I plan on reading the Dark Elite books, too!

I haven't read your work yet, but I plan on it for sure. I've hear many great things about your books and cannot wait to start. If you could compare your series or writing to another authors type/series, which would you choose??

I love Chloe's work and have read every book, adult and young adult. My question is if you weren't to write about vampires, what type of book/topic would you write?
You are a fantastic writer. I can not wait to read Twice Bitten.
Hi Mrs. Neill!
i LOVE your Chicagoland vampire and Dark Elite series. Looking forward to reading Twice Bitten next month 😀
I love the CV series. I hope you do get to do more than just four books! I love Merit and Ethan!

I love this series and am counting the days until Twice Bitten! I was wondering if Chloe has any plans for a spin off series based on any characters from CV?
I love love love your Chicagoland Vampire series! I'm desperately waiting to get my hands on a copy of Twice Bitten!

O.k. Chloe, Seriously… How do you find the time to write (which seems to me, to be a lot of writing, 2 popular series, blog, interviews, etc, train for your marathon AND have a 'day job'? I guess I'm hoping you mean promoting your books is your day job, not something else that is completely unrelated to your writing. I would feel very inadequate…
Anyhoo, love what your doing and am counting down the days till Twice Bitten. Oh, another question/comment. I want to pre-order TB, but I'm a digital reader (iBooks or kindle) neither shows availability…what up wit dat?
i absolutely love this series! i can't wait to get Twice Bitten! XD how old were you when you began writing?
I definitely fall in the book lover category! LOL
Great interview and I love the books!

I am SO READY for Twice Bitten. been counting the days since the beginning of the year!
I think that is why I love the paranormal type of books. All the rules can be made up and broken too! Congrats on your success!
Wondering if you have a chocolate drawer in real life?
Love the books and looking forward to Twice Bitten! Congratulations on your release 🙂
I loved the interview. Usually, I find that most interviews and blogs follow the same procedure, ask the same questions and so on. This one was more unique compared to the other one's I've read. I'll defiantly be visiting Book Lover's Inc more often.
Chloe, I love your series, and follow your blog daily. Please keep up the good work with the CV series and the DE ones too.
I agree with the thebooklover, this interview was not typical!
Thank you for writing Chloe! (and creating Ethan ;))

Chicagoland Vapires is one of the best series out there! I'm so excited for Twice Bitten.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your books!
I love your writing style 🙂
Great interview by the way!
Chloe, what is your writing process like? Do you prefer writing down on pen and paper or typing?
I have enjoyed your books and can't wait to read this one.
Thanks for the great interview

A book lover always has a book with her anywhere she goes, just in case. Me, I always have a book in hand and every vehicle I might be in, has an extra book hid somewhere in it.
Chloe, if you had to pick only one genre to write–YA or adult paranormal?

Hey Chloe I would love to know were you got your idea for your Chicagoland Vampires Novels? Also do you have anything you just have to have around you when you write your novels?
Really great interview By The Way. These books are on my to be read pile.
skyla11377(At)AOL(Dot)Com
I love Merit and Ethan and Morgan! I can't wait to see whether or not Merit and Mallory are going to make up and what the Mayor wants with Merit. I really want to know what Gabriel meant by "family" and who sent that note in Friday Night Bites. Can you tell I'm just crazy about this series?
Question: What do you think some of your characters may be reading?
Ladytink_534(at)yahoo(dot)com
Not entering, just wanted to say I loved your interview! I can't wait to see Merit, Ethan, Morgan and the gang again!
I loved your defintion of a reader vs a book lover. Has to be the best description I have heard. I for one always have a book with me, you just never know when you are going to half a few mintues free to start reading.
I am not familiar with you or your books, but that is going to change very soon. Both series sound very intriguing.
Thank you!
I love the cover art of your books. How much say do you have in choosing the art for your books?
dmkayes@gmail.com
I would definitely qualify as book lover. The CV series sounds very interesting. I will have to check it out.
beckerjo@verizon.net
I haven't read any of Ms. Neil's books, but they sound great. I need to put them on my list.
I've been wanting to read World War Z. It just sounds awesome. It's really neat to see what authors are reading in their spare time.
juliecookies(at)gmail.com
I love the CV series. Which do you prefer writing, the adult urban fantasy or the young adult books?
jellybelly82158 at gmail dot com
Wonderful interview.
I would really like to know how you develop your characters. Are they based on real life people you know, or maybe from another source (ie: another book or television), or do they just pop out of your head?
I can't wait to read Chapter 8!!!!! <3
I can't wait to read Chapter 8!!!!! <3
What book inspired you the most as a kid?
I love your work!!
