There was lots of interesting book news this week so here goes:
The White House gatecrashers, Michaele and Tareq Salahi, have decided to write a book about the incident according to reports at The Boston Herald and other news outlets.
Galleycat reports that Sammy Hagar, the former Van Halen frontman, has a deal to publish his autobiography with It Books. Publication is scheduled for next year.
Galleycat also has a piece about Ellie Kemper of the TV show, The Office. She has a book deal with Three Rivers Press to print her novel.
Hollywoodnews.com is reporting that Michael Jackson’s mother is self-publishing a photo book about Michael.
Twenty-four of Jack Higgins’ books are being released as eBooks by Open Road Integrated Media according to an article at Publishers Weekly. I like seeing more backlist titles being made available in eBook format.
AuthorHouse has announced that they will be releasing twelve of Harold Robbins backlist books in eBook format.
Good news for fans of vampires and werewolves: TheBookseller.com reports that Angry Robot has signed a deal for three books with Justin Gustainis. The books will be set in a world with werewolves and vampires.
Another article at thebookseller.com has good news for Dick Francis fans: Dick’s son, Felix, will be carrying on with the Dick Francis brand. They had co-authored the latest novels.
The eBook Reader price wars were in the news this week. This article over at Bloomberg spells it out. The bottom line is that there was a big price drop on the Nook and the Kindle. The Nook is now selling at $199 US, or $149 US for a wifi only version. The Kindle is now selling for $189 US.
eBookNewser has a short piece on a new Toshiba eBook reader coming out in Japan in August. It has two color screens and looks pretty cool. No word yet on price.
Has, our Smutty Lover, told me that there will be a Q&A with Author Yasmine Galenorn on June 30th at The Book Pushers. There will also be a giveaway of her new book, Night Myst. (open to US/Canada).
I’m looking at the hashtag #fridayreads over at Twitter. If you are on twitter then send a tweet using that hashtag and tell everybody what you are reading today. The hostess, @thebookmaven, has a book giveaway planned.
There was lots of news about celebrity books this week so they’ll be the subject of my weekly question. Do you read celebrity books? If a television actor you like writes a book are you going to rush to buy it? Leave me a comment. Remember that commenting on our non-giveaway posts (like this one!) enters you in our We Love Your Comments giveaway. See the full rules here.
I wouldn't buy a book just because a celebrity has written it even if I admired that celebrity. I would buy it if it sounded like something I might enjoy reading be it written by a celebrity or by an unknown person.
I can't imagine buying a book just b/c a celebrity wrote it. I can't think of any one celebrity whose work I would consider reading…just not my thing.
I wouldn't by a book just because a celeb wrote it. If it's non-fiction, I wouldn't by it at all. If it was fiction, then it would depend on the genre and the blurb, just like any other book I buy.
Sullivan McPig, s7anna, Beth – Thanks for your comments. I agree with you. A celebrity's name on the cover does not make me more likely to read the book.
Suprisingly, I havent read any books written by celebrities yet. I'm get interested in boos written by celebrities but that doesnt necessarily mean that I will pick one up.
HI,
I am a novice in this world. Can you plz go through my blog and give some tips?

like you I wouldn't buy a book just for the fact that it's written by a celebrity and so far I haven't read one… I don't think I missed something…
Jenny N. & Ina – Thanks for stopping by and leaving comments. Happy reading!
