Today we are very excited to welcome Cynthia Eden Author of Night Watch Series to Book Lovers, Inc. Her newest release I’ll Be Slaying You hits the shelves next tuesday June 29th. You can read my review Here.
So please join me in giving Cynthia a warm welcome!
The Cornered Lover: How long have you been writing?
Cynthia: Hmmm…pretty much since the 1st grade. J I’ve always loved writing, and even when I was a kid, I’d scribble down short stories and read them to my mom. I wrote my first novel when I was 18 (it’s buried in a closet some place b/c it is VERY bad) and then fast forward fifteen years…and I’m a full-time writer now.
The Cornered Lover: What is one of your favorite things to do?
Cynthia: I love going to the movies. I usually go each weekend and I just escape into the film.
The Cornered Lover: If you can work with any one of your fellow writers.. who would it be?
Cynthia: So many to name! But, since she actually hooked me on the genre…Jayne Ann Krentz.
The Cornered Lover: Who is the one person you would love to meet?
Cynthia: Right now, I want to meet Bret Michaels. Yep, I’m a fan. I think he’s brilliant creatively, and he’s got great musical talent!
The Cornered Lover: What is a typical day for Cynthia Eden like?
Cynthia: My days are spent chasing after my four-year old…we go to zoos, play at haunted forts, frolic in fountains…but at night, I write. A lot. As for sleep, who needs that? (Me!)
The Cornered Lover: What is the one thing that always relaxes you?
Cynthia: Chocolate. Chocolate can always make me feel great.
The Cornered Lover: Of all the places you’ve been to..which one has been your favorite?
Cynthia: Disney World is actually my favorite place. What can I say? It’s a place of magic and fairy tales and I love that.
The Cornered Lover: Where is the one place you would love to travel to?
Cynthia: England. I’ll make it there—one day!
The Cornered Lover: What is the one thing you wish you could do but haven’t done so far?
Cynthia: Travel to England.
The Cornered Lover: What are your favorite types of Heros & / or heroines?
Cynthia: I love strong and smart heroes and heroines. I also like characters that aren’t perfect. We all have flaws, and I rather enjoy flawed heroes and heroines.
The Cornered Lover: Do you read any reviews on your books?
Cynthia: I do. And I appreciate the time that reviewers take to write up their thoughts about my work. I also understand that my writing isn’t for everyone. I like the saying “Different strokes for different folks.” So when I see a bad review, I don’t take it personally.
The Cornered Lover: What do you like to Read? Your Favorite Genre?
Cynthia: Romances are my favorite books! But I tend to prefer the subgenre of paranormal romance the most.
The Cornered Lover: What are you working on now?
Cynthia: I just finished revisions on DEADLY LIES (this will be my third romantic suspense novel, due out next March). This book is part of my “Deadly” series, and it focuses on a serial kidnapper.
The Cornered Lover: Do you have any books coming out soon?
Cynthia: I do! I’m happy to say I have a busy upcoming schedule. My next paranormal romance, I’LL BE SLAYING YOU, will be available on 6/29/10, and then, one month later (approximately a month—I think the actual release date is 7/27/10), my very first romantic suspense novel will be released by Grand Central Publishing. DEADLY FEAR will introduce readers to the SSD—my fictional Serial Services Division in the FBI—and to the agents in that unit.
The Cornered Lover: Whats a typical writing day for you like?
Cynthia: When I’m on a deadline, I set page goals for myself (say 10 pages a day). I usually don’t start writing until the evening (due to the my active child), but when I start, I just keep going until I meet my goal. I don’t sleep until I do.
The Cornered Lover: Do you set a daily writing goal?
Cynthia: LOL, yes, please see my previous answer!
The Cornered Lover: Whats the best thing about being an author?
Cynthia: Having the ability to create my own world. The possibilities are endless for me—and I love that!
The Cornered Lover: Do you have any advice for aspiring writers?
Cynthia: Never give up on your dream. Never. Rejections happen—face ‘em and move on. Write the story that calls to you and *believe* in your writing.
And read. A lot. One of the best ways to be a good writer is to be a good reader.
The Cornered Lover: What are 3 things that are “must haves” for you when you sit down to write?
Cynthia:
1. Silence. Too much noise totally pulls me out of my stories. I want to be able to hear the voices of my characters and nothing else.
2. A handy cup of Sprite—you know, to help with the thirst
3. Chocolate. A small bit helps with inspiration!
The Cornered Lover: What do you think is the difference between and Reader and a Book Lover?
Cynthia: Hmmm…interesting question. I’d say a reader buys a book, enjoys it, and moves on to the next tale. A book lover has a keeper shelf that is very well stocked. A book lover can instantly name 5-10 favorite authors and book titles. And a book lover will always re-read a good tale.
The Cornered Lover: How do you come up with the names of your characters?
Cynthia: Google helps me. If I am looking for a name with a particular meaning, I always hop online. I also have a baby naming book—it lists all of their names and the meanings attached to those names. I’m big on picking names with meaning!
The Cornered Lover: If you could meet any of your characters face to face, which one would you most like to meet, and what would you say to him/her?
Cynthia: I’d like to meet Dee Daniels from I’LL BE SLAYING YOU. I’d tell her…I want to be kick-ass like you! Dee is one of my strongest heroines, and I found myself wishing I could be as brave and bold as she is.
The Cornered Lover: Twitter question (answer as you would on twitter / 140 characters restriction)
Summarize I’ll Be Slaying You in 140 characters
Cynthia: Vampire hunter Dee Daniels trusts the wrong man when she lets her guard down around a sexy stranger—a man with real bite.
Summarize Dee/Simon in 140 Characters
Cynthia: Dee Daniels is strong, smart, and ready to kill any vamp in her path. Simon is…in her path.
The Cornered Lover: Do you know how many books will be in this series?
Cynthia: I’ve written 3 books in the Night Watch series so far.
The Cornered Lover: Do you know all your books/characters before you start writing a series?
Cynthia: I know the basic characters, but often secondary characters will appear & grab my attention!
The Cornered Lover: Did you have to do any type of research before writing this book?
Cynthia: I research myths with the help of my paranormal encyclopedias & the Internet.
The Cornered Lover: Are any of your characters based on people in your life?
Cynthia: Maybe. Maybe not.
The Cornered Lover: Can you tell us a little bit about the characters?
Cynthia: Dr. Emily Drake from HOTTER AFTER MIDNIGHT was inspired by one of my friends—a lady who is a psychologist.
The Cornered Lover: How long did it take you to write I’ll Be Slaying you?
Cynthia: Two months. That’s my usual draft time for a book.
The Cornered Lover: If you could pick anyone to play Dee and Simon in a Movie version of I’ll Be Slaying you, who would you pick?
Bradley Cooper for Simon.
The Cornered Lover: Did I’ll Be Slaying you turn out like you originally had in mind?
Cynthia: No! The book took a few unexpected turns for me.
The Cornered Lover: Is there anything you wanted to put in I’ll Be Slaying you, but just couldn’t seem to fit it in?
Cynthia: I made everything fit. Got all my details in!
The Cornered Lover: With Dee theres a little….twist, is that the idea with her, you always had in mind?
Cynthia: Oh, yes. I knew in Eternal Hunter what would happen to Dee, and if readers look closely enough, they’ll find the hint there.
The Cornered Lover: Thank you some much for taking the time to share with us today Cynthia!
Thanks so much for interviewing me!!

Hi Cynthia – Do you know how many books will be in your Night Watch series? What is the title of the next book after I'll Be Slaying You?
My family lives Disney World. We were fortunate enough to go in 2008 and 2009. I cannot wait to go back again. No place is more magical 🙂

*waves* hi Cynthia!!!
I love going to the movies too, though i don't get to go very often! What has been your favorite movie you've seen so far this year?
*huggies*
JoJo
I moved to Orlando from So. California so I grew up with Disneyland. Since I live near Disney World, I've come to love all four of those parks as well.
I enjoyed the interview and getting to know a bit more about you and your writing Cynthia. I love your writing, and I'm looking forward to reading I'll Be Slaying You.
I loved the interview and you are so right about chocolate yum! Disneyworld is also one of the happiest place in the world so it's definitely my favorite too!
I've read the first book in the Night Watch series and have been looking forward to the latest! tWarner419@aol.com
Cynthia, I haven't read any of this series yet but I've got them on my wishlist now. It sounds like a good series.
I enjoyed the interview.

Hi, Bells! So glad you enjoyed Simon's story–thank you!! And book 3 (Eternal Flame) will be about the Zane Wynter, the demon hybrid.
Thank you, Sherry!
Hey, skyla! I've written 3 books so far (before I got distracted by some fallen angels), but there is one more story about a certain human cop that I'd really like to write, too.
Hi, Victoria! So far, there are 3, and the next book (available this December( will be Eternal Flame. Here's a link to the cover: http://www.cynthiaeden.com/books/eternal-flame/
I so agree, Robin! I can't wait to take my son back for Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween this October.
Hey, JoJo!! Thanks for interviewing me!! Let's see…for favorite movies, I think I have two: The A-Team (I am such an A-Team fan), and I actually really enjoyed Knight & Day (the new Tom Cruise movie).
Hi, Barbara! Thank you very much!!
LOL, that chocolate is awesome, Jeanette!
Thanks, tetewa!! I really hope everyone enjoys the 2nd book.
Glad you enjoyed the interview, Sandy!
This was a great interview. I really look forward to reading your books. Oh, and anything with Bradley Cooper as a lead definitely got my attention. 🙂
Thanks, Rosie!! And isn't Bradley just awesome fun?

Cories, I am so obsessed with Disney World. This year. the RWA National Conference will be in Orlando, and I know I'll have to sneak over to Disney.
Hi, mariska! Thank you!
Cynthia, I love the title of your book. Did you start the book with that title in mind or did you come up with it after you were already into the writing?
Hi Cynthia!
congrats on your newest release and thanks so much for the interview – I really enjoyed reading it 🙂
I can't wait to read your books and I already love the covers – do you have a say in choosing the motives?
wish you all the best,
Ina
After reading the interview I had this only thing in mind: OMG, just two months on a book? I wish I could write like you.
kaguya2000[at]gmail[dot]com
Great Interview!
Thanks, JenM! The tile came to me first, and then the rest of the book followed from that.
Thank you, Ina! Glad you enjoyed the interview. 🙂 When it comes to covers, I don't have a lot of say. If something is terribly off, I note it and adjustments are made. I've been lucky with my covers–I've loved them!
Hi, Michikit! Oh, no, don't wish that! Everyone writes in different ways and at different paces. You just have to do what is right for you.
Thank you, loves2read!
I've often wondered how full-time writers with small kids do it. Now I know – you're up late after bedtime writing. So you really have two full-time jobs!

great interview! i'm a disney fanatic, though i don't get to go to wdw as often as i'd like…
cynthia, is it hard switching gears, so to speak, for different series? or do you write for two at the same time and have no problem with it?
k_sunshine1977 at yahoo dot com
My question for Cynthia is: Do you have one book that holds a special place in your heart above the others? If so, which one and why?
Cool interview! I agree. England would be a really interesting place to visit.
@Cynthia Eden …Hi, thanks for answering me. I write short stories just for me, but I wish I could have a beginning and an end to any of them. I guess I'm lazy. 😛 Anyway until then I enjoy reading lots of books because someone told me that this is a good exercise. Have a nice day. (^_^)
I think it's really neat when authors need to research mythology to include it in their work of fiction. I like when the true legends get incorporated.

great interview. I love this series and am looking forward to the rest of the gang's books.

Wonderful interview. Only two months to write the first draft? Wow, that's fast! Or, anyway, it seems fast to me.
Beautiful covers 🙂

Wow, you got me with your dream cast, I love Kate Beckinsale and Bradley Cooper, so if you could imagine them playing your characters, I'm sold 🙂 lol

A very well done interview.
I have never read any of the books in this series. I want to, but never had the opportunity. I do have a question, I realize that this book belongs in a series, but can it be read as a stand alone? If so, I would like the opportunity to win it and read it.
