You guys are killing me! Why do you always let Susi win huh? You know I’ll never hear the end of it lol
Anyway I just got back from a date with Mr Random.org (yes it’s getting serious, I might let him count my underwear!) and he gave me the name of last post’s winner!!! Yes this lucky winner won a paperback copy of a Richelle Mead book of their choice with the US cover…

Congratulations!! I will email you in a minute! =)
This week we will discuss Ilona Andrews‘ Kate Daniels series because let’s be honest Susi and I are absolutely addicted to these books. We worship Ilona and Gordon and you should too! LOL
Magic Bites
When the magic is up, rogue mages cast their spells and monsters appear, while guns refuse to fire and cars fail to start. But then technology returns, and the magic recedes as unpredictably as it arose, leaving all kinds of paranormal problems in its wake.
Kate Daniels is a down-on-her-luck mercenary who makes her living cleaning up these magical problems. But when Kate’s guardian is murdered, her quest for justice draws her into a power struggle between two strong factions within Atlanta’s magic circles.
The Masters of the Dead, necromancers who can control vampires, and the Pack, a paramilitary clan of shapechangers, blame each other for a series of bizarre killings—and the death of Kate’s guardian may be part of the same mystery. Pressured by both sides to find the killer, Kate realizes she’s way out of her league—but she wouldn’t have it any other way…
US — UK — German
French — Chinese
The Geeky Lover:
The US cover is and will always be how I picture Kate. Okay perhaps more the way she looks on the Magic Strikes cover but in general when I think about this series she looks like that so it’s hard to chose something else. But I will try to be open minded. I don’t like the blue shirt on th UK cover and her look is all wrong. I’m not sure if Kate would make a face like that ever. I like the German cover. It’s so pretty and shiny but to be honest it’s not this series at all. Nothing in this world is shiny so it doesn’t fit the book. The French cover looks like a PC game I could like but not like a book. I like the Chinese cover but I think a man designed it cuz that sword is HUGE. LOL So what to choose….I think I will take the Chinese one. It fits the book best with still being pretty.
The HEA Lover:
This is not easy. I was used to the ugly US cover and when I read the books with is how I pictured Kate. So now this is what Kate looks like in my head. But the US cover is Fugly and it’s what prevented me from buying the books for a long time. But I have to admit that Kate looks Bad-ass! The UK cover is not ‘bad’ but the model is not Kate, she looks like a nice girl ‘trying’ to look bad-ass and failing miserably! lol Now the German cover is interesting I find it pretty and mysterious. The French cover is too comic-like but at least they tried depicting an interesting scene from the book. The Chinese cover is a good surprise, I like the model and the storm is fascinating. Even the Sword looks magical, but it’s a bit too long though. So my favorite is the Chinese cover! Two thumbs-up *g*
Magic Burns
As a mercenary who cleans up after magic goes wrong, Kate Daniels has seen her share of occupational hazards. Normally, waves of paranormal energy ebb and flow across Atlanta like a tide. But once every seven years, a flare comes, a time when magic runs rampant. Now Kate’s going to have to deal with problems on a much bigger scale; a divine one.
When Kate sets out to retrieve a set of stolen maps for the Pack, Atlanta’s paramilitary clan of shapeshifters, she quickly realizes much more is at stake. During a flare, gods and goddesses can manifest – and battle for power. The stolen maps are only the opening gambit in an epic tug-of-war between two gods hoping for rebirth. And if Kate can’t stop the cataclysmic showdown, the city man not survive…
US — UK — German
French — Polish
The Geeky Lover:
Again I love the US model for Kate. I like the way she looks. I also love the way the flare is pictured. So pretty. The lion is too dark for my taste and I really really would prefer to have a human Curran on it. *purrs* The UK cover is like the first one but this time I like her shirt more. But still not at all Kate. The German cover again is super shiny and pretty but WTF is on her face? Why did they do that? And OMG the French one is bad. Looks like a cheap PC game this time. And when I, with my nearly nonexistent French, try to read the title I have to think about Crème brûlée. LOL I think I will take the Polish one- it has all the good parts of the US one with better illumination but I don’t like that the color of the flare is missing. Not really happy but I have to take one.
The HEA Lover:
Again I was used to the US cover, which is not pretty, it’s too dark and the lion looks dumb, but I do like Kate on it. I feel like I’m rambling but the UK cover again makes me think she’s trying to look sexy and mysterious but FAILS. The German cover is pretty and it might be my favorite but I”m afraid for the girl’s life…seriously who put one’s sword right next to one’s neck?! O_o The French cover again is too comic-like but I should get used to it now ’cause the whole series is like that. lol It’s not bad it’s just hard to take it seriously. The Polish cover is a modified version of the US cover. It’s lighter and more colorful. I like it way better than the US. I like the Font with little swords in the title. The only thing I don’t like is that the lion looks even dumber and Kate’s hair is a bit too red. I love the German cover, it’s very pretty but for me Kate looks more like the US model, so….my favorite is the Polish cover. =P

I must confess I do not know this series so I'm going on looks alone and in that case it's the German cover that wins both times! It catches my eye the most when looking at the pictures, the others feel kind of generic.
@Sullivan OH!! This series is a MUST READ! lol yeah we're kinda obsessed with those books Susi and I but they are really worth it *g*
The German covers are very pretty I agree, but when you read the books you realize it's really not the heroine =P
I hope you pick up with series *puppy eyes*
I think I like the US cover for Magic Bites the best. I like how the things in it are kind of just ghostly suggestions, and not trying to be too scary or sexy, or too anything. I appreciate being able to pull off subtlety.
b(dot)cardone(at)hotmail
I like the US cover for both Magic Bites and Magic Burns. The UK one is okay, the German one looks like her face is dirty, the French one is weird, and the Chinese and Polish covers just don't do it for me.
I am going for the German covers, they are just so magical in a way, and so pretty
Guys, you're hurting my feelings *pouts* LOL At least this time Susi can't win since she chose the same as I did Mouhahahahahah
Its a toss up between the US covers and the German ones. In the US one the female looks too computer animated but the German one,I really like her eyes. But I like that the lion is added to the US covers. The German covers blend better with the background images too.So I guess I'll say the German ones 🙂 I like best.
For magic bites i like the german cover the most. I haven't read the book but I like it. And for Magic burns i like the polish cover, the lion and the girl are perfect. I like it better than the us cover because is more because is brighter.

Woooot! Germany wins.
'schland, 'schlaaaaaaaaaaand…
Sorry, still in Worldcup mode. LOL
I agree they are pretty but really not Kate at all.
Definitely both the German covers!
chidoryx AT hotmail DOT com
I like both the covers…
vidishamun@gmail.com
Yay me! 😀 thank you so much! I'll answer your email right now!
Ohh the German covers are pretty popular today! I'm still under the charm of the Chinese cover, no one else find it pretty?
Come ON…Don't tell me there's not someone out there with the same crappy taste as me! lol Good thing I have you on my side this time Susi LMAO. We'll keep eachothers warm =P
@jen7waters Congrats again!! *g*
@Jolene I'm SO sorry!! I deleted your comment by error! *hides in shame*
here it is:
Jolene Says:
I don't know this series, but it looks really good. I would have to go with the German cover for both. It catches my eye. The book cover is always the first thing that pulls me to a book, and the german cover has me interested
june111@att.net
Again so sorry Jolene!! I Iz Stupid
you guys agreeing is funny =P
I like the Chines cover of the first and the German of the second… both German covers are cool.. but I agree, WTF is that on her face LOL
xoxo
I love the German covers for both because the focus on the female face is more captivating, especially her expression and eyes.
lilazncutie1215 @ yahoo.com
Definitely German for Magic Bites – I love the tones and intensity of the woman's eyes. Very alluring.
I think I need to go with German for Burns as well. For much of the same reasons as above. The Polish cover is also very cool.
robin [at] intensewhisper [dot] com
I like the German one on both.i believe that it looks more Urban and I kind of like that and the colers are just more atractive two me.
sasluvbooks(at)yahoo.com
i love the German cover for both also. It's really pretty and has a nice layout.
This series rocks.

I voted for the German covers for both. They just stand out more. They would catch my attention if I was browsing in a bookstore
hdtermite at yahoo dot com
I've never liked the US covers, but I love those German covers. It's true they make Kate seem more glamorous than she is, but those eyes…. how can you resist that?
jen(at)delux(dot)com
With both books the model on the US cover has a sneer I find unappealing. And the same model is used for the Polish version of Magic Burns.
The model on the UK covers looks too immature, more suited for a book about teenage witchcraft and boy troubles.
And on both French covers the lion looks a bit too cartoony.
I love the Chinese cover for Magic Bites – it has a mystical out of this world feel.
And my favourites are the German covers because the model looks great and I'm a sucker for skin decoration.
eva.s.black[@]gmail[.]com
I forgot to enter the new contest yesterday – silly me! – so I voted for the US covers in both cases, I like the girl's poise and face expression, specially in the Magic Bites cover, she really looks as if she's going to do some serious damage with that huge sword *.*
I like the US covers first because I've gotten kinda attached to them–Love the series. Also because Kate is a tough kickass chick and the US covers total show that. But I do really like the Chiness cover for Magic Bites too.
linaramz at yahoo dot com
I'm going with the German covers! tWarner419@aol.com
I like the German covers best. They are pretty.
I like the German covers best. They aren't as plain as the us and uk ones and the girl is pretty without being too pretty.
They are also very easily identifiable.
Slightly related note: Why-oh-why do the U.S. covers for Urban Fantasy series suck?
I absolutely love the Chinese cover for Magic Bites. Yes, the humongous sword is amusing, but it shows a fabulous decimated cityscape, and Kate looks nice and badass (I believe in later books she admits putting forth a 'thug' persona). The other covers try to make her too shiny/pretty. And what is with the U.S. cover? Hello Kate's boobs, how nice to meet you….
For Magic Burns I have to go with the German cover. It is a little shinier than I'd prefer considering this is the magicpocalypse, but consider the plot of the book (the Flare), it kinda works. I dislike the other covers for the same reasons listed above.

I say Chinese for the first and UK for the second!!!!
nedsped at gmail dot com
I like the US and Chinese cover of Magic Bites and the US cover for Magic Burns because I like the colors and the models the best in those.
Ladytink_534(at)yahoo(dot)com
I haven't read this series yet, so I voted for those that were the prettiest to me. My favorite for Magic Bites is the Chinese cover, because I like the fiery sword and lightning, and the Chinese characters look interesting too. And I like the German cover of Magic Burns, the girl is very pretty, and the cover loks more professionally done than the other ones.
spamscape [at] gmail [dot] com
I love the Chinese cover for Magic Bites and the US cover for Magic Burns–I love the fiery sword! And the color for the US cover there work well for me.
It's so interesting how different some of the different covers look in different countries!
f dot chen at comcast dot net
I like the US cover for both of them.
jellybelly82158 at gmail dot com
For both books I prefer the US cover. I really like the look of the model on them.
throuthehaze at gmail dot com
I got all the Kate Daniels books so you do not have to enter me in the contest. I just wanna pitch in my two cents… All my books have US covers in them, but I like the German covers best! Those German artists got talent!!
Re-posted your contest at: http://contests-freebies.blogspot.com/2010/07/win-kate-daniels-book-at-book-lovers.html
I like the German cover the best. I like that they don't show the girl's whole body. Also, her eyes are beautiful and captivating. She looks like she's been through a lot of obstacles. The UK one is too plain and nothing special. The rest of them are average and look staged.
k_anon[at]hotmail[dot]co[dot]uk
I like the German cover the most. It's the most eye-catching.
melodiousrevelry (at) gmail (dot) com
I LOVE the German covers! Not only is the cover model striking, I love how clear her eyes look, but the whole cover looks interesting and makes me wonder. I would definitely pick them up!
I would also like the US covers except for the cover model! Ugh.. she is not the way I would imagine Kate. But I love how the lion is always incorporated with the sword and that eery light in the background.
Thanks for another fun The Good, the Bad, etc. post, I love these 😀
stella.exlibris (at) gmail (dot) com
I think the German covers are the best, they just catch your eye more at first glance then the others do.
For Magic Bites I LOVE the Chinese cover! Its amazing even though the sword looks never ending! I love the color and it has a eerie mysterious setting and reminds me of the series alot more. Im also used to the US covers but I actually didnt buy Magic Bites for a long time because at first glance the cover isnt that amazing!
Honestly I like the US Magic Burns cover! I love the colors in the background and since this is how Im used to picturing Kate, the others dont quite fit to me. I do think the German one is pretty but the model looks to soft to me..more like a pretty princess than a bad ass with an attitude problem..so Im gonna have to go with the US one for my pick this time.
Sweetj826@aol.com
I like the Polish cover for Magic Burns! All of the covers are amazing!
meredithfl at gmail dot com
So, Kate Daniels doesn't have a flower on her right cheek? I'd think she did, given the German covers.
In that case, even though the German ones are eye-catching, I have to vote for the Chinese cover and the Polish cover. I don't particularly like the US covers because they're too dark. The Chinese one is cool and mysterious where as I can actually see the lion in the Polish one.
ironss[at]gmail.com
I have not read any of this series yet, I would like to though. I have to go with the German one first, then the USA one. The USA one on the first one is too dark, the German one has more color. The second one the USA one is more colorful and eyecatching to me.
seriousreader at live dot com
I haven't started this series, but I've heard such fabulous things.
I picked the Japanese cover. I just love the flaming sword. Second was the UK cover. Great rich purple background with the lion head blended in.
