A followup to my last post the other week about rumours that Janet Evanovich was leaving St Martin. It was just announced that she has signed up to a 2 year deal with Random House – for two Stephanie Plum books and for two of her new spinoff series which features Diesel from the inbetween books.
Leeanna Renee Hieber announced the title for her third novel in her Strangely Beautiful Series:
The Perilous Phrophecy of Guard and Goddess will be released in Spring 2011.
Leanna will also be in London (hooray!) next week and she will have a signing at the Forbidden Planet at Shaftesbury Avenue. Signing starts at 6pm and should end 7pm – if any Uker’s cannot make it you can preorder a signed copy directly at their site.
Full details of the signing and preorder info.
Amazon has announce the 3rd generation of the Kindle and for the first time there is full support in the UK! The prices for new models– Wifi only model is £109/$139 and the 3G/Wifi model £149/$189. This is currently one of the cheapest ereaders in the market and the fact that both models have 3G and Wifi access included is definitely a bargain. Amazon is also planning to open a UK Kindle store which will not have Agency pricing. I am now very very tempted to get a Kindle. You can see some pics of the new models here.
Rachel Hawkins, author of the Hex Hall series has sold a new series to Disney-Hyperion in a three book deal.
Publishers Weekly reports that the new series “follows a popular high school girl who, en route to don her crown at Homecoming, is recruited by a supernatural crew of bodyguards. The secret security group, which protects people who play an important role in the future, assigns the protagonist with a tough mission—destroy her arch-nemesis and, in the process, possibly lose her queen bee status.”
Not related to books but it gave me a giggle – Titantic two from Asylum Pictures who are behind a lot of B Movies. The trailer looks badtastic 😀 [

What do you think of the new Kindle? Do you think that Amazon has won the war for the ebook readers? Or do you think the upcoming models from Google, Sony and the Nook might be even better?

The price drop for the new kindle makes it more affordable especially for people like me who are still on the fence about getting an e-reader.
I'm definitely going to get a Kindle. The $139 price is just too good to pass.
I'm not particular about what brand of ereader I get as long as it can handle epub and pdf, which is what 99% of my ebooks are, and the cost is less than $150(including any sales tax). That's all I can afford after saving up for almost four months.
Although I will ask around and get opinions of others who own whatever brand I'm looking at. The Yahoo groups I'm in are good for that kind of thing.
