When I think of my favourite couples in YA, it’s not because of their hotness, kick-ass status or sheer awesomeness. The perfect couple in YA is a mature one, and one that betters both parties. One sidedness in anything doesn’t work for me, and lack of growth or change doesn’t work either.
Which is why I have picked the following couples, they went in either broken or lost and came out whole with a partner that not only complimented them, but helped them to become a better person.

Alex and Brittany – Perfect Chemistry

A perfect example, and perfect starter. Alex was lost in an obvious way. He was in a gang didn’t do well at school and had resigned his life to raising his brothers properly and keeping his mum safe. Brittany however seemed to have it all, but was broken inside from her parents treatment of her sister and the drain of caring for someone as disabled as what her sister was.
The change in both parties was amazing. Alex left his gang at great risk to himself and went to college, something he had written off as an unfulfilable dream. Brittany also took charge of her own life after seeing the benefit of putting her sister into care. Opening up to Alex in a way she couldn’t even around her best friend. They found not oly love but friendship, companionship and trust.

Katsa and Po – Graceling

Katsa & Po definitely have that kickass factor, both being marvellous fighters and warriors for their kingdoms. We first met Katsa, more man than woman who deals death with almost every blow. Doesn’t want a man, children or power. Just freedom. Then we meet Po her male counterpart. He is calm to her fiesty. Yet he also wants peace.

Katsa’s transformation isn’t as obious as Po’s, but it does happen earlier. It starts with their friendship, not wanting to leave him behind, and turns into more of a needing to be near. It changes her from being hard and closed to opening up. Po’s transformation come much later though. He doesn’t want to drag Katsa down after he goes blind, but it’s because of her that he leanrs to reintegrate back into the world.

John and Meg – Going Too Far

By far one of the biggest and most emotional changes I have ever read.
John is stuck in his hometown after his brother died, refusing to leave the bridge that took his life unattended.
Meg is a recovering cancer patient, unwilling to try and just needing to escape. The threat of death in her eyes, constantly around the corner.
In the early days of her attraction to John she attempted to convince herself that she was developing Stockholm syndrome. Meg didn’t get close to anyone. She never even took her shoes off so that she could run at anytime.
John was uptight. Only 19 and already a police officer. He couldn’t see a future for himself other than his bridge.
Meg and John coming together, changing each other, repairing each other in the ways that they did was absolutely amazing. One went from untrusting and an aversion to plan so much as even the next day, to college, a relationship and a future. The other, no future at all, and a pain to powerful to let go to finding a release and in turn, freedom.
The way that these couple helped each other is what makes them so meaningful. It isn’t superficial, it isn’t teenage lust but it is lasting. It also isn’t unattainable, which makes it more real.

I haven't read any of these books yet but I've been wanting to read Perfect Chemistry and Graceling for a LONG time. I'm a bit short on money at the moment so I'm going to have to put it off for a while 🙁 My favourite YA couple is probably Jace and Clary from The Mortal Instruments. Or maybe Katniss and Gale from The Hunger Games (even though they're not really together – one can hope!)
