Like we decided in our last installment we will now choose our favorite covers in a genre for the next few editions of ”The Good, the Bad and the Are-You-Kidding-Me?” and tell you why we chose them. It would be awesome if you could tell us which cover in this genre is your favorite and perhaps we will all find some new to us cover candies we can obsess about.
This week we chose Paranormal Romance covers for our fight…ahem..discussion. It’s one of our favorite genres. Who doesn’t like a vampire here and a shifter there? *wink*
Susi’s Choice:
The Geeky Lover: I have to admit when I started to think about PNR cover I was convinced that this post will be a piece of cake but I was so wrong. I took me forever to find those covers above and I’m still not really happy but I won’t complain any longer and just say why I chose them. I like the Lover Mine cover first because of the color. I adore read and look at those body- it’s droolworthy and OMG those scratch marks are sooooo hot. And then there is all this attraction I feel for this book just because it is John Matthews book. Demon from the Dark is so pretty. That guy is made of awesome and you have to try so hard to look somewhere else. I really like his body and the scruff. *yummy* I always liked the font on the IAD covers too. One thing I don’t like is that stupid tattoo. I like manly tattoos and with so many swirls it looks feminine. LOL And perhaps the last cover is a bit cheated but that book, The Kiss of the Rose, really has some paranormal elements (vampires, druids) and it’s just pretty. I love the woman on it and her dress is just gorgeous….I don’t like the guys face at all. For me they cut have made that stupid head off cut here too. LOL He looks not like I picture Christopher at all. Christopher is more pretty for me and would have such a stupid necklace.
The HEA Lover: I can’t agree more Susi…i never thought It’d be so hard to find PNR covers i like. I really like the cover of Lover Mine too but the hands with the black nail polish annoy me. I don’t know why but it just irks me (yes I’m weird like that) otherwise John Matthews is perfect and the scratch marks makes it even better. I like the cover of Demon from the Dark the man body is DELICIOUS but his face…doesn’t look manly enough. LOL I know I know I’m picky, but I like a strong jaw and his looks weak. I like the colors for this cover though. I agree on the stupid tattoo completely! LMAO cut their head off…very Henry VIII-ish of you hon lol. I really like the cover of Kiss of the Rose, every time I look at it I think of the TV series The Tudors. Woot! I have a thing for the Tudor time so my eyes are drawn to this cover. Her dress is so pretty! But the man looks…hum…stupid, with his shirt nearly off o_O I love the font used for the title though.
The Geeky Lover: You don’t like black nail polish? *hides her nails*
Caro’s Choice:
The HEA Lover: I can hear you from here already dissing the Dark Embers cover! *covers her ears* La laalalalalaa Not hearing you! lol I will start by saying that this man’s belt buckle is completely disproportionally big and stupid looking! Is he trying to make up for his tiny weeny? When you compare the size of his belt buckle to the rest of his body it’s even weirder O_o. BUT I find him absolutely HOT and sexy. I love long hair on a man *drools*. And look at those Abs!!!!! I love his face too…I think I’m in love guys. The sun setting colors are so pretty too. Ok ok I will stop I know miss Susi will have a great time telling me how bad it is =P.
I haven’t read Love in the Time of Dragons but I can’t stop looking at this cover. I love the font, the colors, the hot man’s body!! I even like the tattoo. And NO HEAD! Ah this is just perfect. *g* I admit it’s harder to kiss but well at least he can’t talk LOL
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cover of Caressed by Ice. It’s one of the few books that I bought even though I already had the US cover. I have no idea why I love it so much. The man’s face just call to me. The intense blue eyes, the blood on the face….*happy sigh* I bought this one and the Slave to Sensation UK cover and when you put them together it makes a whole face. It’s fascinating. I can’t help but look at them. *drools some more*
The Geeky Lover: I know totally predictable *starts to talk LOUDER* OMG I hate the Dark Embers cover so much. LOL And OMG I didn’t even see the stupid buckle before. Why do I hate it? His tattoo is again not manly enough and looks like a 7 year old made it himself. I think they overdid it with color. The orange or the violet would have been enough but both together are just too much. I like the guy though but he is too small for the cover so he looks a bit like a really small men and I’m not really attracted to those. I completely agree about the Love in the Time of Dragons cover. It is just wow although again what is up with these tattoos. If a man in real life would have that dragon tattoo I would seriously laugh directly in his face what a girl he is. And yes I think I like the headless covers too. No way to be too critical that way. I agree about the font and colors- they are awesome. Nearly perfect cover. Ohhh I really like Nalini’s UK covers. I love theses guys and I will now take back everything about covers with heads in it. That guy is made of awesome. Perhaps they just have to decide for one to win my affection? Could be…And I think I like the Slave to Sensation cover more. 😉 And it is kind of weird what you do with your books. I really think you want them to breed. LOL
The HEA Lover: LMAO Exactly Susi, you know I’ve been experimenting with my books in hope of making Book-babies. *sigh* One can hope…
The Geeky Lover: Yeah sure *steps back slowly*
As always we’d like to know if you agree with us.
What do you prefer- headless or give me the scruff?
Which are your fave PNR covers?
Do you like tattoos on covers?

Funny post! xD
It's not that I don't like these kind of covers, because I do *teehee* but they are getting overly used, they're everywhere! and I don't think I could read a book with a cover of this type outside, I would feel embarrassed, it's stupid, I know xD Caressed by Ice's cover is gorgeous indeed, that guy looks dangerous…
Tattoos are okay, but it's the same story, there are so many books with tattooed guys on the cover right now.
@Jen Yeah After a while they all look the same. And I TOO am embarrassed to read a book with a half-naked man on the cover (well I do live with my parents LOL). So I choose ebooks when I don't wanna be seen with one. Closet Reaaaaaader *singsong voice* 😉
I really love the UK covers of the Psy/Changelings series. This series is gonna ruin me lol
I think I'd like it better if the tattoos looked…real! mehh
So many covers are just starting to look similar in print releases these days, I've actually started to ignore the covers totally.
And tattoos are so over used on covers it's ridiculous. I read Kate Douglas' Wolf Tales. Those shifters can't have tattoos or piercings because of the shift. Yet the publishers decided it was a good idea to put tattoos on guys on the covers of a couple of the recent releases in that series. Luckily they have since decided to be more true to the story and the next one to come out doesn't have a tat on it. In fact the cover for Wolf Tales 11 is very hot.
I do love that cover for Love in the Time of Dragons. Great tat on that one and appropriate to the kind of story it is. Haven't read it so I don't know if the character actually has that tat. If he doesn't it will affect my view of the cover.
That's my biggest gripe about covers other that similarity to others. If the cover is incorrect to the story.
@Beth That is SO stupid. I hate when they put things on the cover that are really not in the book. I remember that on the covers on the Kitty Norville books by Carrie Vaughn they always gave her a tramp stamp she doesn't have in the books. But in the case you mentioned it's just plain stupid. Bah!
@Jen I'm usually not embarrassed any longer after reading this book in the tram and an old couple looking really shocked at me. LOL And yes I adore Nalini's UK covers. And I'm too picky with tattoos and in my opinion and ugly one is not sexy at all.
@pattepoilue LOL chicken!!!!!
@Beth I agree. They all look the same and with this we give each book a similar name I'm totally lost (e.g. Midnight Breed Series by Lara Adrian). I can never remember which couple is in which book and even less how the cover looks. And that about the Wolf Tales is so wrong. And I agree when the tattoo is wrong it irks me too.
@pattepoilue LOL I'm glad to know I'm not alone in my embarrassment xD but it's nonsense right? I think we have to try it someday, we need to be brave like SusiSunshine! 😀
@jen @Susi Pfffffftt Susi you're telling me you'd read a book with half-naked man on the cover in front of your mom? or MIL??? huh? You semi-chicken!!! lol
Yep Jen I'm sure SOMEday we'll outgrow our embarrassment LOL
@Jen @pattepoilue *headpalm* I forgot to add the link to the book that cured me. LOL here
The old pair looked at me like I was send directly from Satan. LOL
@pattepoilue Dang your fast! LOL
@Jen @pattepoilue Actually my DiL at one time stood in front of my bookshelf looking for a book he would like and I tried to explain to him that Megan Hart probably wouldn't be for him. He asked why. I showed him cover. Now he sticks to the UF/Fantasy/SciFi shelves and always asks before touching a book. At MiL always asks for recommendations. But only the contemporaies and historicals.
LMAO Susi!!! Poor DIL Bwahahahh He doesn't feel that adventurous now =P My parents do not look at my shelves phewwwwww
Hi Maria…I am the one sneaking newly purchased books so my significant other doesn't yell at me for buying more books and I do frequently stay up way past my bedtime in order to finish a book.

I don't know, sometimes the headless bodies can be good. I've seen a few covers that don't have a face that wows me! I like to be imaginative! Hence my LOVE/PASSION/OBSESSION with reading!
I'm not gonna complain about any of these hottie covers. I started reading romances (I was young..hehe) when *shudder* Fabio *more shudder* was the embodiment of the perfect hero. Not in my world. =)
@Anonymous I think you put that comment on the wrong post perhaps?
@Jessica I start to appreciate these more too after seeing some face who just didn't fit my imagination at all.
@Scorpio M LOL true too!
I tend to have a bit of tunnel vision. My eyes zero in on abs. I love the Demon from the Dark cover. I didn't even notice the tattoo or the stubble until you mentioned it. All I could see were his six pack. Same thing with the Dark Embers. The abs drew me in. Background? Belt buckle? Where?
I say off with their heads! Just give me abs. 🙂
@Reena LMAO that is too funny. When we started to write the post I just wanted to start writing my opinion on the covers pattepoilue chose when she started the buckle rant. And I was all like O_o where is a belt buckle. And yes it was probably cuz of the abs. But I'm not ashamed of that. LOL
most PNR covers make me cringe in horror. Of these I quite like Kiss of the Rose. I think the guy does look weird with the shirt like that, but at least he's got a cool beard and isn't such a bland pretty boy like most male cover models.
*hides before getting wacked*
@Sullivan McPig It is surprising that those covers are still that way. I think publishers should realize that they are doing something wrong. And no worries…I don't really like those "pretties" either…me wants men. LOL But that guy on the KotR cover has a strange look. Like the scruff and all but something is just wrong.
@Susi a S&M type of cover! no wonder the old couple gave you that look xD I'm sure they went home babbling about "young people these days…" *eheh*
And, see? your DiL learned something that day, that he should consult with you before going over your books. I say that was a very valuable lesson.
@pattepoilue (off topic) so…I heard you give great historical romance recommendations, care to name a few for me, someday?*puppy eyes* 😀
@Jen That he learned for sure. LOL He was nosy at first but after he saw some now he asks for recs and I'm sure he hopes I will only give his the "manly" books. LOL
@Jen Ohhh Wooot I LOVE historicals so I also love pushing books *g* Have you read any? Do you like tame/sexy/very sexy/erotic book? Because it's important for the final choice. Do you like lots of heartbreaking/drama/very romantic/dark heroes/rakes/cold heroes? lol Mouahahahahahahah oh my you shouldn't have asked that, now I'm lett ing the historicals beast out!!! *g*
A few of my favorite historicals series are:
by Lisa Kleypas: The Wallflowers series (4 books), the Hathaway series (5 books).
Goddess of the Hunt by Tessa Dare <=== i loved it
oh in the very funny/romantic (but not too sexy) category I have What Happens in London by Julia Quinn and Ten Things I love about You by Julia Quinn also. Ten Things is SO SO SO funny.
Ohhhhhhhhhhh and the best of all The Duke & I by Julia Quinn again. I LOVED this book. *happy sigh*
A real funny and sexy one is Nine Rules to Break when Romancing a Rake by Sarah MacLean. That one is pretty new and it was a pleasure to read.
A HUGE book but classic is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. nom nom.
In the erotic category I LOVED Charlotte Featherstone's books. Addicted and most of all Sinful. I cried a lot each time but really good.
lol ok I can give you more if you want no problem. I just love talking about historicals lol *sob* this question made me happy LOL
@pattepoilue
*ROFL* That's ok, let the historicals beast out! I don't mind 😀
Let's see, I like (lowers voice so no one else but pattepoilue can hear) the heartbreaking/drama/very romantic/dark heroes/rakes/cold heroes type *hides* and the funny ones too. I LOVE when a historical makes me laugh out loud 😀 But I'll pass those with overly graphic sex scenes. For instance, I like Judith McNaught, Susan King and Samantha James, but I'm always looking for new authors to read 🙂 I've never tried Julia Quinn! but I keep hearing about her. "Ten Things I love about You" sounds like my kind of book.
I have read Outlander, just the first one, I liked it *Jamie…*, but to be honest, I've never bother to read all the other books in the series.
Oh! I have Sinful on my wishlist already!:D I'm adding the others now!
(btw What exactly is a "pushing book"?I'm afraid I did get the concept *.*)
@Jen Hehe pushing book is talking about a book to someone until they finally break and read it LOL (Has our Sexy Lover is even part of the Book Pushers blog)
O_O I have never read any books by Judith McNaught, Susan King and Samantha James…*hides*
Ohh if you don't want too graphic sex scenes then maybe Sinful is a bit too graphic for you. But it's really really good. And the cover is gorgeous! lol
Ah I've only read the first Outlander book too lol I started book two and I was SO freaking angry about the concept that I had to stop. I kept ranting about it for 2 whole weeks =P
If you love funny romances then Julia Quinn is perfect for you. The Duke & I is SO SO SO funny. And I really loved Ten Things I love about you.
THE classic rake book for me is Lord of Scoundrels by Loretta Chase. Goddess of the Hunt that I told you about is a bit like that too, but more funny (it was one of my favorite book in 2009)
I don't know if you read ebooks, but if you do last week I read and reviewed Rakes & Radishes by Susanna Ives and…wow! It was a great surprised! It's in my top reads of 2010.
So in the end I'd say Julia Quinn would be perfect for you!
o-kay, I liked tattoos (like those on Gena Showalters LotU books) and I liked my man with head, but it seems that's totally out 😉 now I will go and hide somewhere…
@Ina LMAO you can have the heads of mines LMAO
@Ina LOL all the tattooed guys for you then. 😉
@pattepoilue and Susi: you know that dinosaur baby from TV saying "I'm the baby, you gotta love me" -> that's meeeeeeeeeeee! *hiccup*
@Ina And what does it scream instead of "Nicht die Mama!" "Give me heads and tattoos!"? LMAO Sorry, we love you honey no matter which covers you like…we just keep all the pretty ones for us. LOL
oh God, now I've tearful eyes out of laughing…
I know it doesn't matter what covers I like, but I had to mention it 😉
@pattepoilue Oh that! okay, now I get it xD
See?! that's why I didn't want to read more books in the Outlander series! I knew it was going to make me mad, I read some spoilers for the second book *shame on me, I know* and thought: no way, Jose… lovers separated by time are too much even for me.
I remember adding Sinful to my wishlist because I read somewhere that it tells a really heartwrenching story, and the cover did help…*to me that guy is Mr Darcy showing me his perfectly shaped bum :D*
Looks like I really have to try Julia Quinn and Tessa, then.
I forgot to say I have one book by Lisa Kleypas on my TBR pile, "Stranger in My Arms", but I've already been checking out those series you suggested. Thanks for all the recommendations! Really!:'D
*goes to read the Rakes&Radishes review*
@Jen I have never read Stranger in My Arms but I don't think it's one of her best. I loved her work newer work though.
Oh yes yes Sinful is heartwrenching. Sinful too. And i LOVE the cover of Sinful. Do tell me if you read I'd like to know what you think of it!!! =)
