Hey Everyone!Veronica is still not well, so this week I offered to jump in and tell you about all the fantastic books to be released in September and which have a “MUST” note next to them on my wishlist.
So here are my
Must Have
September
Releases
Sparks by Laura Bickle (Anya Kaliczyk #2)
Release date: September 2010
Amazon, Book Depository US, Book Depository UK, Goodreads
Goodreads appetizer: Anya Kalinczyk is the rarest type of psychic medium, a Lantern, who holds down a day job as an arson investigator with the Detroit Fire Department—while working 24/7 to exterminate malicious spirits haunting a city plagued by unemployment and despair.
Along with her inseparable salamander familiar, Sparky, Anya has seen, and even survived, all manner of fiery hell—but her newest case sparks suspicions of a bizarre phenomenon that no one but her eccentric team of ghost hunters might believe: spontaneous human combustion.
After fire consumes the home of elderly Jasper Bernard, Anya is stunned to discover his remains—or, more precisely, a lack of them; even the fiercest fires leave some trace of their victims—and she is sure this was no naturally occurring blaze. Soon she’s unearthed a connection to a celebrity psychic who preys on Detroit’s poor, promising miracles for money. But Hope Solomon wants more—she’s collecting spirits, and in a frantic race against time, Anya will face down an evil adversary who threatens her fragile relationship with her lover, her beloved Sparky’s freshly hatched newts, and the wandering souls of the entire city.
Why is it a Must Have? The 1st book in the series (Embers) was fantastic: Laura Bickle weaves the story wonderfully, with vivid and athmospheric descriptions she sets the scene and not only are her characters interesting and unique, she gives them history and they become flesh and blood persons. And there is Sparky! 😀
This is an amazing new urban fantasy series with fantastic characterization and writing that flows effortlessly, Laura Bickle enthralls the reader in no time and accomplishes what we always want to achieve by reading: being transported into another universe.
Double Cross by Carolyn Crane (The Disillusionists #2)
Release Date: 28 September 2010
Amazon, Book Depository US, Book Depository UK, Goodreads
Goodreads appetizer: SOME SECRETS COME BACK TO HAUNT. OTHERS COME TO KILL.
Justine Jones lived her life as a fearful hypochondriac until she was lured into the web of a mysterious mastermind named Packard, who gifts her with extraordinary mental powers—dooming her to fight Midcity’s shadowy war on paranormal crime in order to find the peace she so desperately craves.
But now serial killers with unheard-of skills are terrorizing the most powerful beings in Midcity, including mastermind Packard and his oldest friend and worst enemy, Midcity’s new mayor, who has the ability to bend matter itself to his will.
As the body count grows, Justine faces a crisis of conscience as she tests the limits of her new powers and faces an impossible choice between two flawed but brilliant men—one on a journey of redemption, the other descending into a pit of moral depravity.
Why is it a Must Have? Because Carolyn Crane and the Disillusionists trilogy rock! 😀 Lol, joke aside: I read Mind Games a few months ago and it completely blew me away! It was refreshing to discover such a unique and original urban fantasy universe where everything doesn’t revolve around vampires and werewolves (don’t have anything against them, but variety is great). Besides that, Carolyn Crane’s sarcastically biting humour completely won me over (of course a very human heroine and the surplus of swoonworthy heroes did not hurt either :-p) . If you haven’t read this series yet, now is the time to pick it up!
Blameless by Gail Carriger (Parasol Protectorate #3)
Release date: 1 September 2010
I’m not posting the blurb here, as it contains some spoilers and I don’t want to shock or surprise anyone who hasn’t read the first 2 books in the series yet.
Why? Besides the fact that everyone praises this series so much (to this day I haven’t heard of one single person not loving it), because it is a paranormal story set in Victorian England (who doesn’t love reading about women in corsets, gentlemen and etiquette? and mix in vampires and werewolves, how cool does that sound?), there is a passionate romance, a dashing hero, a quirky, unique heroine, and most of all because apparently it is incredibly well written and funny!
So this is my top 3 picks from my Must Have September Release Wishlist. As I’m always eager to expand my TBR list, I’m curious to know which are yours? What books that will be released in September can’t you wait to hold in your hands? I’d be happy for great suggestions 😉 *winks*
