Bayou Moon by Ilona Andrews
Cerise Mar and her unruly clan are cash poor but land rich, claiming a large swathe of the Mire, the Edge swamplands between the state of Louisiana and the Weird. When her parents vanish, her clan’s long-time rivals are suspect number one.
But all is not as it seems. Two nations of the Weird are waging a cold war fought by feint and espionage, and their conflict is about to spill over into the Edge—and Cerise’s life. William, a changeling soldier who left behind the politics of the Weird, has been forced back into service to track down a rival nation’s spymaster.
When William’s and Cerise’s missions lead them to cross paths, sparks fly—but they’ll have to work together if they want to succeed … and survive.
"I Shall Wear Midnight" is out? Great! I love Terry Pratchett's Discworld series! And with the Nac MacFeegles, too!
@cories5 – The Nac MacFeegles reference is lost on me, though I have heard of Terry Prachett. I hang my head in shame! (lol)
Can't believe Torment is out already and I haven't even read Fallen yet.
I thought Blameless and I Shall Wear Midnight came out last week?
Did my bookstore cheat and give me an early present? Awwwwww, now I feel bad for lecturing them about the the dehumanizing impact of segregating the fiction books with queer main characters.
Wait, no. I don't feel bad about that. I'm still furious! Just a little less so.
@Jenny – Me too! I've had Fallen on my shelf for a while now 🙁 Soon, right?
@dracon – I find different source for the dates and it may have something to do with North American vs UK, etc. (that's my story, anyway :-p) And never feel bad for standing up for a book's right *pumps fist in the air*, lol.
The Nac MacFeegles are also called the Wee Free Men – tiny, tattooed blue men in kilts. They help Tiffany Aching. This is part of Pratchett's Discworld books for kids.
"Fallen" may be more enjoyable if you have "Torment" on hand. I know I was pretty bummed after reading "Fallen" (ARC) and then have to wait all this time (is Luce going to get a clue this time?).
@cories5 – I'm giggling at the thought of the "tiny, tattooed blue men in kilts". Sounds like a bit of quirk in there which totally appeals to me 🙂 Fallen is on the shelf, just waiting for me to clear my schedule. Thanks for the recommendation!
