Book Blurb:
Find out how it all began…
During the bite of the Great Depression, sole female dominant Joan Fuller struggles against the rise of cruelty among her alpha counterparts. The men tolerate her interference–until she breaks from the pack and allies with a witch and a vampire. Now the Boston alpha intends to bring them all forcibly back into the fold–and teach her a lesson she may not survive.
Seamus Whelan and his werewolf bootleggers intend to retire from smuggling and savor their fortune, but first they must do a favor for an old friend: escort some female wolves to safety. An easy job, if their leader wasn’t a prim ex-debutante with enough power to challenge Seamus himself. Chance makes them allies; powerful need makes them lovers.
Together, they have the opportunity to build a sanctuary for their kind, but first they must free themselves from Joan’s past, and the powerful man who would see her destroyed.
My Thoughts:
I read and loved the Red Rock Pass series, so it was a natural step for me to read this ‘prequel’ series, Building Sanctuary. I won’t lie, it took me a few pages to remember this was not a contemporary. I kept forgetting we were decades before the Red Rock Pass books. I think it was hard to remember, mostly because we see a few characters we already met.
A Safe Harbor is the start of a fantastic new series. I always was very curious about how this Sanctuary came to be. I am a huge fan of Historicals, so this was a very welcome new development. I loved learning more about Adam, my heart broke for him.
I will say this now, I LOVED Seamus. He is very sexy and he doesn’t ‘jump’ on the heroine. I got to give Moira Rogers that, they really made me believe it was a Historical (yes after the first few pages). I like that the characters act like they would have at that time (ah except the werewolf part *g* but who knows O_O). Joan is a strong woman who cares for her people. She suffers for them and is more courageous than she thinks. She did all she could to keep them alive, but now she needs help to go on. It was hard for her to admit that she couldn’t do more for them. I really like this heroine, and she deserved her HEA. Seamus is an Alpha, but he’s nothing like the abusive ones Joan is used to. He is willing to help her without imposing himself. He knows she is capable of defending herself and he is not over-protective. A perfect gentleman *wink*, if gentlemen grew fur and were making alcohol during the prohibition *g*
The smex scenes are both very hot and tender. It’s real love making, not just smex. Fireworks in the kitchen! *g* I was so happy with the ending it left me smiling from ear to ear. I can’t wait to read Victor and Simone’s story, they are always teasing each other, and it’s about time they make up *waggles eyebrows*
All in all this is a very interesting start for this series. You It makes you want to read the next book, to keep reading about this new Sanctuary. I’m always impressed by the quality of Moira Rogers’ novella. In 80 pages or sometimes even less, they build a world, complex and addictive. I couldn’t wait to sink my teeth into this book.
I give A Safe Harbor 4 1/2 Stars.

pattepoilue, can this be read without having read any of the others? I like the sound of this.
@Bea Yes definitely! Susi read it without having red the Red Rock Pass series too. It's set before the the other books so you can read this one first. It would even be best *g*
I really love this world. I hope you pick it up=)
