In the next latest twist and turns of publishing, Amazon has made overtures to agents by bypassing publishers to reach and negotiate new deals that bypasses publishers. I suspect that this is in part of the new agency agreements that is in place due to the publishers but also another move that shows Amazon is becoming more interested in publishing directly to their customers/
Nalini Singh confirms there will be a
4th Guild Hunter book out in the fall next year instead of a second Psy/Changeling book – The book will focus on Dimitri’s (oh yes!!!! Does Snoopy dance) although this wont be the end of Elena and Raphael books.
The Library Science Degree has compiled a list of the
top 50 most hated literary characters. There are some very interesting entries, some have surprised me while others, I totally agree with.
Breaking news!!! Amazon has
also implemented gift a Kindle book today – although I would be wary for gifting a Kindle book to those outside the US as it seems to be geo restricted but yay for this good move on Amazon’s part!
Next week is the
annual Bad Sex Awards in literature, the shortlist has been picked and
Alaistir Campbell’s book has been shortlisted! I can’t not help but love the byline from The Guardian!
Book covers: This week we have a couple of upcoming fan favourites!
Kelley Armstrong has posted the cover for upcoming Otherworld book – Spellbound which is narrated by Savannah.
Savannah Levine is in terrible danger, and for once she’s powerless to help herself. At the conclusion of Waking the Witch, Savannah swore that she would give up her powers if it would help a young girl. Little did she know that someonewould take her up on that promise.
And now, witch hunting assassins, necromancers, half-demons, and rogue witches all seem to be after her. The threat is not just for Savannah; every member of the Otherworld might be at risk. While most her fellow supernaturals are circling the wagons at a gathering of the council in Miami, Savannah is caught on the road, isolated from those who can protect her and unable to use her vast spelling casting talent, the thing she counts on most. In a story that will change the shape of the Otherworld forever, Spell Bound gathers Elena, Clay, Paige, Lucas, Jamie, Hope, and others, who soon learn that the greatest threat to supernaturals just may come from within.
Alyssa Day has also posted up the cover for latest Warriors of Atlantis book ( I heart this series!)
And finally, and way off topic but I couldn’t help not post this, an
old Japanese wood block illustration sheds an interesting take on the term of balls of steel. Although its slightly NSFW

Harry Potter! Hands down the most annoying character ever!!! If not for all the other characters and the story I'd have given up on the Harry Potter books after book 1.
And I must confess that when I hate a character I truely hate him/her, so no: I do not love to hate someone and therefor I do not like those kind of characters more than a character I love.
I do enjoy reading about bad guys, but I do not hate those.
When I read about the hated characters list, I thought “villains.” But No…that list! Satan comes in at #50, but three of the main characters in GWTW (Scarlett, Rhett and Melanie) all appear earlier. (And the really irritating GWTW characters—Ashley and Prissy–don’t make the cut.) Huh. Beth March (Little Women) comes in with about the same amount of dislike as rapist/wife abuser Stanley Kowalski (Streetcar Named Desire)–What is that about!?! Do people read these books/watch the movies? Good thing the list is prefaced with a note saying it’s “silly fun.” Not sure silly is the word I would have used, but it sure isn’t intelligent.
Personally, I don't find myself hating many characters. If I dislike them, I generally stop reading them.
@Sullivan McPig – I was never a huge fan of Harry Potter and I still dont get the hype. I did read the first book but I could not warm up to Harry – I did think he was a bit too perfect at times!
@LSUReader – I did think that list was interesting – it def featured a couple of characters who I ended up hating but there is a few which I don't really get but lists like this is subjective and its fun to discuss the outcomes! 😀
