Book Description:
Reece Barnet and her father have just relocated to sunny North Carolina, Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point to be exact. It’s another new town and another new school. To make matters worse, just as Reece is starting to fit in a rash of bomb threats rocks her father’s experimental aircraft squadron. When the authorities track the threats to Reece’s school, she decides to do some investigating of her own. Unfortunately, the more Reece digs, the more it looks like her new boyfriend might be the culprit.
When Reece’s father is nearly killed, it becomes a race against time as Reece fights to protect her father, clear her boyfriend, and discover the surprising truth of the person behind it all.
My Thoughts:
Reece Barnet is one courageous young heroine. Her life hasn’t been the same since losing her mother. Yet she remains strong for the only parent she has left. It is not easy for a young girl having a single parent especially one in the military. But life goes on. Reece is hoping that her new home will be better for her.
Reece meets some interesting people from the loner but cutie, Paul and hottie football player, Greg. Its a hard life having to ‘date’ these two guys but Reece is definitely up for the challenge. Just when things are heating up between this high school love triangle, Reece discovers that not everyone is happy with her father work at the military base.
She puts her love life on hold to find who the guilty part is. Move over Nancy D. . . there’s a new young heroine detective in town. For there seems to be trouble all around Reece. She finds herself in a tough situation in not knowing who to trust. Reece’s world is crumbling around her after an ‘accident’ causes her to almost lost the only parent she has left. There is a lot more she can lose than just her love life if Reece does not find the guilty one.
Ms. Ficklin has created a new world that gives readers a glimpse into a world few have seen. In the first novel the in Military Brats series: After Burn, Ms. Ficklin introduces to some remarkable characters like Reece, her ‘guys’, Derek and Kayla.
None of these characters are really outspoken to what each of them have to deal with family issues and secrets. Yet they are slowly but surely are known by the end of the book. After Burn is more than just the young heroine having to deal with a being a military brat… That is just the tip of the iceberg. Readers, young and old will not only identify with some of the drama these characters go through but also find themselves wanting more, more, and did I mention more?
Ms. Ficklin, I have only a few more things left to say.. You keep on writing these amazing tales… I will definitely keep on reading them. So please bring me… I mean us more wonderful novels to read.
I give Military Brats: After Burn a rating of 4 out of 5 Bookies.
