We are very happy to welcome Stephanie Sloane here at Book Lovers Inc today. Her new historical romance The Devil in Disguise will be released in May. She writes Historical romance and today she is here to tell us why she loves a good Rogue. Be sure to answer her question at the end for you chance to win.
Last spring, as I exchanged emails back and forth with my editor about the name for my debut trilogy, I began to really think on just how much weight those few words would carry. A series name is, after all, meant to both describe the books and sell them—in two, maybe three words. That’s a tall order, indeed.
“Regency” seemed a natural fit. Not only are all three of my books set in the Regency period, roughly 1811 – 1830, but the word alone conjures thoughts of sweeping BBC productions, delicious Jane Austen scenarios, and fascinating historical happenings ripe for adventure and indiscretion. What’s not to love?!
As for the second word in the series descriptor? Well, I’ll be honest: I adore alliteration. See! So I scoured the dictionary, thesaurus, novels and nonfiction from the time period, and the cob-webby corners of my brain, landing on the perfect word.
“Rogue.”
Look it up in the dictionary and here’s some of what you’ll find:
“A playfully mischievous person. A scoundrel.”
“No longer obedient, belonging, or accepted and hence not controllable or answerable; deviating, renegade.”
“An animal of vicious character that has separated from the main herd and leads a solitary life.”
Such strong and evocative words definitely describe Will, Marcus, and James, the three heroes from my Regency Rogues trilogy. They are, after all, skilled spies within the clandestine Young Corinthians organization, an elite group tasked with protecting England at all costs.
And even better? They’re all complex men with emotional, physical, and spiritual needs that cannot be sated—that is until they meet their respective heroines.
In a word, they are Rogues, from the top of their sexy mussed hair heads right down to their perfectly shined Hessian boots. And honestly, I can’t think of anything sexier.
So here now, are my top three reasons to love a rogue:
1.They’re dangerous. Dangerous to love. Dangerous to trust. Dangerous to adore. But if you prove yourself worthy? They’ll do anything to keep you safe and satisfied.
2.They’re hot. With a capital H. All of that spying and fighting and risking one’s life for crown and country provides an incredible aerobic workout. Really! Just check out the covers of my three books. Seeing is believing!
3.They’re going to fall hard for their heroines. And there is, quite simply, nothing better than watching an unbeatable man fall in love. Not unlike a tree being felled in the forest, when Will, Marcus, and James surrender to the longing and need of their hearts, it’s earth-shattering and it will, quite literally, rock your world.
So, have I convinced you as to the attributes of a rogue? One commenter will win a copy of my debut book, The Devil in Disguise.

Bad boys win everytime. Sometimes that's good, like in books. Unfortunately in real life it usually doesn't. Maybe that's why I read so much? LOL
Good Luck with the new book!

I've always loved a rogue and I agree with your top 3 reasons to love one.
My favorite hero is the unapologetic rake or sexy rogue, they're always a lot of fun. My top three reasons to love them are:
1. They're always witty and a lot of fun.
2. When they fall for a woman, they fall hard.
3. They've had lots of experience with women and they know how to please.

This is a tough question because it sort of depends on my mood. But I guess I like the larger than life hero:
1. He is untouchable until the right woman comes along.
2. He can solve any problem.
3. He needs to have a strong heroine to bring him down a couple of notches.

I love humorous rogues because they can always guarantee a good time, can make you laugh with their wit and naughty comments, and devilishly handsome!

A Brooding t ortured hero or a naughty rake? Cant choose!
They both need a good woman to tame them!
They are always smokin' hot!
They are always just a little bit wicked. I just love em!

I love a hero who is stubborn pig headed, and is going through some kind of torture that makes him afraid to love anyone. It makes the story lines every interesting and shows that only their sole mate can help and tame them through love. Please enter me in contest.Tore923@aol.com
I adore a bad boy. My ideal bad boy would be a tortured hero. Stoic, protective, possessive and mysterious.

I'm really not sure. I've recently started to like the characters that are happy settling down or want to marry more than the heroine does–like Giles in the new Sabrina Jeffries book.
To be perfectly honest, I like the head of the family hero the best.
1. They are repressed and ready to cut loose.
2. They love their families and work their asses off to keep money in the coffers.
3. They fall in love.
Congrats Stephanie!
My favourite kind of hero is the shady, stubborn, strong and a bit tortured kind of guy.
The one who's ready to protect you but will never admit his weaknesses.

Greetings from Italy!
I prefer beta heroes because:

2) That is the kind of person I like to be around
3) I like couples where both are equal (alpha usually like to dominate)

Good luck to everyone!
My favourite type of hero really depends on the book and characters but overall I like the strong, protective caring type, especially if they start of friends with the main character. Why?
1. They're really romantic and will do anything for their girl.
2. They are "safe" so to speak and really easy to fall in love with.
3. They're usually so proper and don't think the other person likes them.
jessicamariesutton(at)msn(dot)com
Mr. Darcy is my favorite hero of all time. Three reasons I love this type character.
1. He is strong and protective.
2. He is willing to change for the woman he loves.
3. He has strong morals.

Oh, I certainly fall for the "bad boy" on the outside, "softy" on the inside kind of hero. 🙂
-I love this kind of hero because he always looks so tough and protective.
-He may not say his feelings out loud, but he shows it in actions.
-He shows you a side of him(his vulnerabilities)no one else knows of.
Oh, my heart… LOL
Thank you for the international giveaway!

I like the jaded bad boy heroes with tortured pasts.
I like the complexity they often bring to the story, the take charge attitude they often have, and watching them be reformed ;).

I like the really roguish rakes–the really bad ones that are actually kind of mean.
1)It always causes great tension and conflict.
2)Watching their bad behavior is just plain fun.
3)The process of reformation is doubly rocky and takes a really strong heroine to accomplish.
Thanks for the giveaway.

1. He's generally kind to all he knows, even if it bothers him.
2. He thinks of himself as a loner, when really he has many good friends.
3. He's loyal when it's important to those friends.
