Our destination today doesn’t come from a direct source in my reading materials. Vancouver, B.C., I’m sure has been mentioned in many novels, particularly Canadian ones, but what is interesting is that it’s used as a place for filming some pretty cool book-to-film or TV shows. The obvious one is Twilight. Many of the scenes in all of the movies have been filmed in and around Vancouver, though mostly in the wilder areas.
Recently, L.J. Smith’s The Secret Circle has hit the small screen. Despite it’s fictional setting of Chance Harbour, Washington, it is actually filmed in Vancouver.
For me this city represents the “cool” part of Canada. While Toronto has its merits as a “place to be”, Vancouver holds its own with a beautiful blend of culture and urban living with no small amount of wilderness just around the corner. Check it out:
So, what do you think? Does it justify the number of Hollywood films/shows that are done on location here? Can you think of any other book-to’s that have been filmed in Vancouver? Have you/ would you visit? It’s a city within my own country but many, many miles kilometres away. It is definitely a top spot for me.
Those pictures are great, what beautiful scenery. I live in Las Vegas to all I get to see is desert.
I actually have lived in the Vancouver area and there always seem to be tv shows and movies being shot around the city. I know that the TV show Supernaturals and Smallville were filmed there. I'm sure there are other too. Vancouver and it's area are a great mix of urban and nature areas that I think appeals to those filming movies or shows.
Cheers!!

I've lived here in Vancouver my whole life, and it seems there's always some movie or TV series being filmed. We're totally used to it up here.
I know I'm biased, but Vancouver is absolutely gorgeous–if you can stand the rain. It rains here A LOT. It's what keeps everything green and pretty, right through the winter months. That's another misconception I'd like to point out: we don't get a lot of snow in the city/suburbs, just up in the mountains where it belongs. If there's a snowfall in the city, it's a big hairy deal and the kids race home from school to make snowmen with the usually pitiful amount of snow on the ground, only to have it melt away within a day or so. We're all terrified to drive in the stuff.
What beautiful photos. No wonder so much filming is done there. I think I'd choose Vancouver, too.
i LOVE vancouver! my dad lives right outside and i love going to visit.. (and they have some of the best used bookstores ive found anywhere!!).. PS granville island is the best for shopping!!
my dad has a running list of movies filmed in and around vancouver.. i believe the stargate atlantis shows, supernatural is filmed there, movies gazillions.. within like 5 hours you go from lush mountains to almost pure desert and back to snowy peaks.. i can see why they would want to film so many movies there for sure!!
I live in Vancouver as well, I've always thought it so awesome that they film so much stuff here. And it doesn't rain that much..or maybe I just don't notice because the rain has never stopped me from doing anything!
What gorgeous pictures! Here in Holland plenty of rain as well, but no mountains, lots of sandy beaches and boats though as we have a long coastline too.
Oh my God, I want to see these places! They're beautiful!
@Kaylea,
yes! I was laughing while looking at the photos. None of them had rain in them!
Vancouver is stunningly beautiful though, regardless of the weather. I think it's worth mentioning that we have the best mountain biking in the world, too.
I really like reading books and watching movies filmed here. I did, however, get freaked with the last book I read, which happened to be set in the suburb I live in, Out of Her League, by Kaylea Cross. It's kind of freaky reading romantic suspence set in the very same places you walk by every day. Great book, though!
Seriously, that first photo looks like an urban paradise.
Indeed, so many films are being shot there. I have a couple of friends from the city, and they regale me with tales of going to see films that take place in a range of locations, only to recognize buildings and landmarks as that of their hometown. i bet Vancouverans (is that the right demonym) get to have an added blast at the movies.
I've always wanted to visit Vancouver! Except when they lose the Stanley Cup, of course.
