Heartsick over the untimely death of her mother, Allison Caldwell is blindsided again by the secret revealed in her mom’s will. Her supposedly dead father is alive, and she and her two sisters must find him in order to settle the Caldwell estate.
Robert Rivera, private investigator and former Navy SEAL, alerts Allison to new intel identifying her father as a P.O.W. in Afghanistan. With her sisters out of the country pursuing leads, Allison insists on heading to the war-ravaged country to find him. Robert doesn’t want his naïve client to take the risk. He knows what danger lays in that godforsaken land…he’s lived through it. Barely.
But Allison is determined to go, and Robert can’t let her travel alone. Reluctantly appreciative, Allison quickly realizes how much she needs his guidance and protection, and how deeply she longs for his love. Robert struggles to understand her effect on his battle-weary heart.
The path to Allison’s father is blocked by terrorists, traps and treachery—all demons of Robert’s past. Can he survive a second round with the enemy and keep Allison out of harm’s way?
My Thoughts:
If you are familiar with the Lucianne Rivers’ Caldwell Sisters Trilogy, you will know the stories surround the quest of the three female siblings to find their long lost father Zack. The girls’ mother has recently passed away and she always believed that her husband had been killed. However, prior her death, she received information that he was, in fact, alive and she put this weird codicil in her will stipulating that the sisters must find their father so the family estate could be settled—divided between the three girls and their father Zach. Entice Me is Book #3 in the trilogy and the youngest sister 25-year-old Allison’s story.
After Private Investigator Robert Rivera informs Allison “Ally” Caldwell that he has obtained information that her father Zach is a POW in Afghanistan, this woman who has never traveled, decides she is going to hop a plane (several planes) and to to the difficult, dangerous country to find him. Naturally Robert advises her against such an impetuous move but Ally is determined to go. (I too questioned this heroine’s decision.) Lucky for Ally, Robert, a former Navy SEAL very well acquainted with Afghanistan, meets her at the airport and offers his assistance which she wisely chooses to accept. Darn good thing he did because naïve Ally really has no idea what she is getting herself into.
I really liked Ms. Rivers’ portrayal of Robert, a 41-year-old world weary veteran who despite still suffering the from the horror of his last SEAL mission in Afghanistan, uses his cunning and experience to help and protect Ally. It helped also that he is described as a “grey-eye George Clooney” (yum-lol). This is a May-September, love-at-first-sight romance and I also liked the whirlwind relationship developed for the hero and heroine in the backdrop of incessant danger, treachery and intrigue, in a foreign land. Ms Rivers does pen a sensual love scene and created good chemistry between the hero and heroine.
Robert utilizes old sources and discovers some startling information about his last tragic mission in the country that went very wrong. The author has some surprises in store for readers regarding Zach Caldwell and the real reason why he abandoned his family so many years before.
I have to admit to enjoying Thrill Me, the second story of this trilogy more, however Entice Me was a fast-paced read which ended on a somewhat bittersweet but happy note for the Caldwell sisters and the men in their lives.
