Book Blurb:
A short story set between Wilder’s Mate and Hunter’s Prey.
Merrick Wood is a wild man–literally. For six decades he’s stalked the Rocky Mountains as a bloodhound, fighting a losing battle against the vampires who have taken over most of the American frontier. He’s sure he’s seen it all, until an airship crash leaves him caught behind enemy lines with a concussion and a mate he doesn’t remember taking.
Paralee Colton is a wild woman. She enjoys her freedom and makes a good living flying over the Deadlands. Until, that is, bloodsuckers shoot down her ship, and she’s forced to deal with an irritatingly attractive man who isn’t a man at all.
Trapped together in the wilderness, Merrick and Paralee must fight to find a safe camp before the new moon drags Merrick into three days of sexual madness. But as enticing as Paralee finds the bloodhound, she doesn’t realize the stakes of their courtship game.
Getting out of the Deadlands is only half of Merrick’s battle for survival. If he can’t convince Paralee to stay with him, he’ll follow the footsteps of every bloodhound who’s ever lost a mate–straight into the grave.
My Thoughts:
Merrick’s Destiny throws us right back into the world of the Bloodhounds. After an airship crash Merrick can’t remember anything that happened before only that out of nowhere his mate is sitting on him trying to bring him back to life. His mate! To say he’s shocked by that would be an understatement but he knows it deep inside- this is the woman who will make him whole and be the center of his world for the rest of his life. Paralee doesn’t know yet but she does feel the sizzling attraction between them.
Merrick and Paralee are a match made in heaven. Merrick is one of these hot hunky alpha males. He knows what he wants and nothing will steer him away from it. He’s commanding but also very considerate. He tries to ease Paralee into this new and very intense commitment. But more than anything he adores her independence and strength.
Paralee isn’t a flower who does nothing more than looking beautiful. She’s a pilot and tries to earn the money to get her own ship back running. She’s determined, strong and knows her way around a fight and physical work. But she’s also smart enough to see her boundaries and accept help, or a command *wink*, when she needs it.
Together these two are explosive. I loved to see that Paralee isn’t inncocent in any way and open to relish the chance the gets with Merrick. Keep an icepack handy while reading this one- you will need it to cool down your ereader and yourself.
I also loved to see more of the Bloodhound’s world. We get a glimpse here and there about how the Bloodhound’s society and their life looks like. We learn how they became what they are and how the mating is seen inside their ranks.
Rogers did it again. In Merrick’s Destiny we find an emotionally intense story with characters who will grow on you from page one. Rogers definitely set my expectations for novellas higher. I love how they always succeed in luring me into a world even with so few pages. The pace they set is always on spot and leads us through a great mix of action, love and sex. As always I can’t seem to recommend these books enough. a great new series with so much potential- I know these books are on my autobuy list. For all the romance lovers out there who love their romance with hot alpha males.
I give Merrick’s Destiny 4 1/2 stars.
Sounds good. I want to read more about bloodhounds now.
You should. These books are such a treat. *g*
I love the blurb! And I am sold on the review. Thanks!
Yay, hope you’ll enjoy it.
*whispers ugly beard!*
Indeed but well I didn’t think of the hero like that. *shudder* indeed. 😉
That has to be one of the hairiest dudes I have ever seen on a Romance cover. And not rugged-handsome hairy. Creepy-gnome hairy. Shudder.
LOL that might be true.
Great review Susi, I still have not started this series, the steampunk part is making me hesitate.
