The last Sunday of March is here!!! How time passes is beyond me, mind you. Especially when you have a great time 🙂 And being here with you surely qualifies as spending great time for me.
So, this might be the last week of March, but the publishers are yet again taunting us with all those great releases that we’re waiting to hit the shelves, especially on March 27th. Among the highlights of the week are Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane, Lover Reborn by J.R. Ward, The Kingdom by Amanda Stevens and so many, many others I can’t possibly list them all.
So, let’s start, with our Sunday Cravings 🙂
Susi and Jackie: Sacrificial Magic by Stacia Kane
When Chess Putnam is ordered by an infamous crime boss—who also happens to be her drug dealer—to use her powers as a witch to solve a grisly murder involving dark magic, she knows she must rise to the challenge. Adding to the intensity: Chess’s boyfriend, Terrible, doesn’t trust her, and Lex, the son of a rival crime lord, is trying to reignite the sparks between him and Chess.
Plus there’s the little matter of Chess’s real job as a ghost hunter for the Church of Real Truth, investigating reports of a haunting at a school in the heart of Downside. Someone seems to be taking a crash course in summoning the dead—and if Chess doesn’t watch her back, she may soon be joining their ranks.
As Chess is drawn into a shadowy world of twisted secrets and dark violence, it soon becomes clear that she’s not going to emerge from its depths without making the ultimate sacrifice.
Susi: I so can’t wait to read the next Stacia Kane. Her world is so dark and gritty and totally enthralling. And I adore Terrible. Want.
Jackie: I find Kane’s series dark and gritty but oh so compelling. It’s content has scared the pants off me a few times but I just love it!
Stella: Sins of the Son by Linda Poitevin
When homicide detective Alexandra Jarvis sees a photo of Seth Benjamin on a police bulletin, she knows that Heaven’s plan to halt Armageddon has gone terribly wrong. As the only mortal who knows of Seth’s true nature, only she can save him. Aramael was a hunter of Fallen Angels until a traitor forced him into earthly exile. Now, with no powers and only a faint memory of Alex, his mortal soulmate, he will stop at nothing to redeem himself-even if it means destroying Seth in the name of the Creator…
FINALLY! The time has come when I can read the sequel to Sins of the Angels, the much and very eagerly awaited Sins of the Son! I am so excited to finally discover whatever happened to Aramael, what is Seth doing and how Alex will cope. Oh, the tension, the excitement, the suspense! I.want.it.now! (and if you haven’t read Sins of the Angels yet, you’d better! It’s a fascinating and wonderfully written urban fantasy series featuring dark and dangerous angels and a strong and very brave cop heroine)
Caro: Taming an Impossible Rogue by Suzanne Enoch
One year ago, Lady Camille Pryce left her haughty fiancé at the altar—for good reason. Not only was the marriage arranged before she could even walk, her betrothed was too smug to exert himself to meet her! Now, disowned, with no husband or family to support her, she’s left with one option: go to work in the notorious Tantalus Club…
A gentleman’s gaming house run by a woman, the Tantalus is no place for a proper lady; so, to save face, her jilted fiancé must retrieve her. But banned from the club, he’s forced to employ his ne’er-do-well cousin instead. A handsome, experienced rogue, Keating Blackwood is the perfect man to lure Camille away. But the moment they meet, Keating instead wants to save her…for himself. Impossible? Perhaps. But if Camille can make the ultimate player lay his cards on the table—and risk his heart—all bets are off…
Oh my! I didn’t realize Taming an Impossible Rogue was coming this week! Want!!! I loved the first book this author knows how to make fun Historical romances. I can’t wait to get my greedy hands on it!
Alisha: The Kingdom by Amanda Stevens
Deep in the shadowy foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies a dying town My name is Amelia Gray. They call me The Graveyard Queen. I’ve been commissioned to restore an old cemetery in Asher Falls, South Carolina, but I’m coming to think I have another purpose here. Why is there a cemetery at the bottom of Bell Lake? Why am I drawn time and again to a hidden grave I’ve discovered in the woods? Something is eating away at the soul of this town—this withering kingdom—and it will only be restored if I can uncover the truth.
Even though there’s a cornucopia of amazing, highly-anticipated book releases this week, there is just one that has me giddy like a little school child. It’s Amanda Stevens’s latest book, The Kingdom. The previous (and first) book in the Graveyard Queen series, The Restorer, was easily one of my top-three favorites of 2011. Easily. The beautiful, atmospheric descriptions and spooky (reeeally creepy!!!) staging, the perfectly constructed mystery and the hint of romance. It was a masterpiece of dark urban fantasy, in my mind. But that book made a lot of promises that the followup will now have to address, and I cannot wait to find out how The Kingdom will resolve (or further complicate) matters. I already know this will be another favorite. ^_^
Jackie: Wicked as They Come by Delilah S. Dawson
Have you ever heard of a Bludman? They’re rather like you and me—only more fabulous, immortal, and mostly indestructible. (They’re also very good kissers.)
Delilah S. Dawson’s darkly tempting debut drops her unsuspecting heroine into a strange faraway land for a romantic adventure that’s part paranormal, part steampunk . . . and completely irresistible.
When Tish Everett forces open the ruby locket she finds at an estate sale, she has no idea that a deliciously rakish Bludman has cast a spell just for her. She wakes up in a surreal world, where Criminy Stain, the dashing proprietor of a magical traveling circus, curiously awaits. At Criminy’s electric touch, Tish glimpses a tantalizing future, but she also foresees her ultimate doom. Before she can decide whether to risk her fate with the charming daredevil, the locket disappears, and with it, her only chance to return home. Tish and Criminy battle roaring sea monsters and thundering bludmares, vengeful ghosts and crooked Coppers in a treacherous race to recover the necklace from the evil Blud-hating Magistrate. But if they succeed, will Tish forsake her fanged suitor and return to her normal life, or will she take a chance on an unpredictable but dangerous destiny with the Bludman she’s coming to love?
Wicked as They Come by Delilah Dawson is a debut novel, featuring elements of steampunk and vampires. I’ve started reading it and it’s pretty interesting so far.
What about you my fellow Book Lovers? Which are your Sunday Cravings?
The restorer was one my favourite reads from last year as well – certainly one of the creepiest! SO I’m really looking forward to The Kingdom, altough I don’t find the cover as atmospheric as The Restorer was!
Creepiest, indeed! I’m really glad the third book comes out only a month later, but it’ll be necessary to read a few happy chick-lit books in between to keep from scaring oneself witless… ^___^
…and I see what you mean about the cover. It’s more peaceful-seeming than the first.
Hope you enjoy The Kingdom!
The new JR Ward ofcourse! And Suzanne Enoch is one of my favourite historical authors. Just plain fun.
Lover Reborn but I have to wait for my signed copy to get here in the UK , hopefully not too long after tuesday. I also crave Bear Meets Girl by Shelly Laurenston out on tuesday. Love that series!
I’m picking up Bear Meets Girl and Shadow’s Fall tomorrow at the bookstore.
