Book Blurb:
After her father loses the family fortune in an insider-trading scheme, single mom Parker Welles is faced with some hard decisions. First order of business: go to Gideon’s Cove, Maine, to sell the only thing she now owns—a decrepit house in need of some serious flipping. When her father’s wingman, James Cahill, asks to go with her, she’s not thrilled — even if he is fairly gorgeous and knows his way around a toolbox.Having to fend for herself financially for the first time in her life, Parker signs on as a florist’s assistant and starts to find out who she really is. Maybe James isn’t the glib lawyer she always thought he was. And maybe the house isn’t the only thing that needs a little TLC .
My Thoughts:
When I saw Somebody To Love on Netgalley I jumped on the occasion to review it. I love Kristan Higgins’ books and I know I’ll always have a good time. If you’ve read Kristan’s previous books you’ll be happy to hear that we get to see characters from previous books in Somebody to Love. The book is primarily set in Gideon’s Cove so we get to see Malone and Maggie’s HEA (from Catch of the Day, which is set in Gideon’s Cove). Also, the heroine, Parker was previously in The Next Best Thing. So we also get Lucy and Ethan’s HEA! I just LOVE when we see previous characters. It makes me love reading about the secondary characters even more.
Well now if you’ve never read these books you’ll still enjoy reading Somebody to Love because it’s worth reading even without the connections to other books. Parker has always been filthy rich. She got the money from her father, a very important business man. So for Parker and her son money has never been an issue. She’s a successful author of Kids’ books but since she didn’t need the money, she donated everything she earned to a Children charity. (Yes I’m rambling but it’s important). So it comes to a shock when her father is arrested and all her money she thought she had is confiscated. All that she has left is a little house in Gideon’s Cove she inherited from her aunt…now she never imagined all the work the house would need before it could be sold.
Parker is a fun character. From the very beginning you see that she doesn’t get why she became a famous author, she despises the books she wrote with all her heart. But funny enough her characters SPEAK to her. She often has internal dialogues with her characters. I found that funny and endearing. Parker has always been rich but she’s not too full of herself. I thought she was strong and she didn’t throw hissy fits about the injustice of her situation. I really liked her optimism.
Enters Thing One…Thing One is how Parker calls her father’s lawyer James. I was already sold to the story at that point. I mean come ON, she calls him Thing One… to his face! For Parker, James has always been her father’s thing. I loved that we first see James through her eyes. I love James. He’s loyal (very very) and has a good sense of moral. He’s there when they have to tell Parker she’s loosing everything and he feels indebted to her and her father. He decides to help her renovate the house so she can sell it.
I really like the book and while both hero and heroine were great characters, their love story didn’t feel like the main attraction of the book. Their constant banter was very interesting (and funny) but it lacked some spark. I think what I loved best about this book is the sense of community we get in Gideon’s Cove. We get to meet lots of fantastic secondary characters. The story is never boring and I really enjoyed it from start to end.
While this is not my favorite book from this author, Somebody to Love is a sweet and funny romance with tons of fantastic characters. It’s filled with humor and it’ll make you smile a lot. If this doesn’t make you want to read (or reread) the previous books I’ll be very surprised.
I give Somebody to Love 4 Stars

Hmm nice review. I am guilty of still not having read one of her books.
Ohh if you ever want to read one I’d say All I Ever Wanted! <3 I was grinning from start to end. Awesome book
I also gave this book 4 stars. I enjoyed it but there was something missing 😛
Yeah it was great for all the characters’ interaction and the community. But I wish it had been …more romantic I guess. Still Kristan Higgins’s writing is always entertaining.
I really enjoy Kristan’s books. I’m looking forward to this one.
