Her Sky Cowboy (The Glorious Victorious Darcys, #1)
by Beth Ciotta
Genre: steampunk romance
Release date: November 6, 2012 by Signet Eclipse
Description:
Amelia Darcy has no interest in marrying well. Her heart belongs to the sky and the dirigibles of brass and steel that swoop over Victorian England. But when her father, an eccentric inventor, dies, the Darcy siblings are left with scrap metal—and not a penny to their names. Their only hope to save the family name and fortune is to embark on a contest to discover an invention of historical importance in honor of Queen Victoria.
Armed with only her father’s stories of a forgotten da Vinci workshop, a mechanically enhanced falcon, and an Italian cook, Amelia takes flight for Florence, Italy. But her quest is altered when her kitecycle crashes into the air ship of ex–Air Marshal—and scandalous dime novel hero—Tucker Gentry. Challenged by political unrest, a devious sky pirate, and their own sizzling attraction, Amelia and Tuck are dragged into an international conspiracy that could change the course of history…again.

Another week of plentiful releases (the above list is just a random-ish sampling). Genre crossing, lots of romance, a trickle of holiday themes, some popular series titles, and big name authors. Let the fun begin!
If you’re a fan of the Riley Jensen series, you’ll likely have noticed Darkness Hunts, Keri Arthur’s latest paranormal romance about dark angels. And if you’re big on author Devon Monk’s work, you’ll know this week sees the release of the LAST Allie Beckstrom book! For fans, it’s gonna be a bittersweet read. Days of Blood and Starlight, the sequel to the popular YA dystopian Daughter of Smoke and Bone, is finally out this week…that one will just be a sweet read. (As in, saaaahweeet!) 🙂
Who here hasn’t read Jennifer Probst’s book The Marriage Bargain (BLI review here)? Whether you have or not (yet), the next book in the Marriage to a Billionaire series is coming out this week, so get ready! And then we have Exposed to You by Beth Kery, another contemporary romance by an author with a loyal readership. Having read this book already, I can say that it’s fantastic CR (check out Lea’s review of it for BLI, found here). And finally, two words: Nora Roberts. 🙂
At the risk of sounding crotchety and overly picky, I’ve got to admit that I wasn’t drawn in with too many of the covers this week. I know, I know…a book and its cover are not really related where it counts, but I love to check out book covers sorta like walking into an art gallery to appreciate the amazing exhibit. It’s still art, after all. The cover of Her Sky Cowboy was pretty cool (and incidentally enough, Paul Marron’s on the cover; wee haw!). A few others are wonderfully understated and memorable (like the Laini Taylor and Beth Kery covers). But I’m not getting much of the “I want a poster of that!” feeling. Well… there is that amazing cover for Polterheist (and if it’s not a Dan Dos Santos cover, I’ll eat my hat). So maybe I doth protest to much. ^_^
But anyway. I digress. Go forth and have fun making your book buying picks for this week (or receiving your pre-order packages in the mail)! And if you happen to be living in the U.S., go out and vote today!

What’s your must have this week? Any new covers catch your eye? As far as covers go, what sort of elements grab your attention (and keep it)?
I just received my boxed set of Gail Carriger books, and Warrior Reborn by Melissa Mayhue. Waiting on plenty more books 😉 Like the new Thea Harrison.
oooh! Carriger boxed set!!!! Going to do a full series readthrough?
No, I already read the first four, borrowed them from my best friend. And then I saw that the boxed set was cheaper than the 5 books apart, so I waited for that one. Now I am reading the fifth and last book.
I’ve been waiting for Elisabeth Naughton’s Enslaved, but I love Jill Shalvis and Rachel Caine as well. Too many books to read and not enough time! lol
Never, ever enough time when it comes to reading. ^_^
Totally want the first one!
It sounds like such fun, doesn’t it? Feisty heroines and dashing heroes are too good a combo to pass up, when steampunk is involved. ^_^
I’m very curious to see what you think of Days of Blood & Starlight. I read the first 70 pages or so and could not get into it at all – and this was after I absolutely LOVED the first one! I was so disappointed, but I’m willing to give it another shot if it gets a bunch of great reviews.
I did love Deity though – it was my favorite of the Covenant series so far!
oh no! that’s definitely not very heartening. i’ll keep expectations tempered with this one.
is it the tone, the plot direction, the characters?
Yay for Paul Marron! 😉
Always! ^_^
Ooh, ‘Her Sky Cowboy’ sounds pretty good, even if I don’t like the title. I will have to put that one on the mental list of books to look out for. And I might just go out and snaffle up Darkness Hunts this weekend, I love that series.

heheh… indeed, the title is a bit quesoso. ^_^ sure does look like a fun one, though.
I hope you enjoy the new Keri Arthur!
I haven’t read any Steampunk stories yet. Along with “Kiss of Steel” and “Riveted”, I’ll have to add “Her Sky Cowboy” to my ever expanding list. The cover is eye catching and gorgeous. The series titling of The Glorious Victorious Darcys (Glorious Victorious Darcys) is rather catching and appealing.
Oooh! You might want to consider adding “Soulless” by Gail Carriger to your steampunk To Read list. As well as “The Iron Duke” by Meljean Brook. Two awesome books.
