Welcome to this week’s news post and we have a chock full edition on upcoming movie adaptations and trailers as well as news on Fictionwise demise and book news and covers!
I think this was going to happen sooner than later, but Fictionwise has announced that it will be closing down from the 4th of December. For US customers they have up to the 21st of December to gain access to their shelves while the UK it is the 31st of January, there is also the choice to transfer their libraries to the Nook site. Although there is no information about the status on non UK/US customers but I would recommend you download and backup those books while the site is still running. Fictionwise’s other sister sites, ereader.com and ebookwise.com will also be affected but I think the writing on the wall for its demise is due to the arrival of Agency pricing which killed the point programme it had for a lot of books. I am sad to see it go but it was never the same with Agency pricing and its purchase by Barnes and Noble. For more info and if you are affected – check here at the FAQ.
Sir Terry Prachett has announced this week that he will be passing the reigns to the Discworld novels to his daughter Rhianna, who is also a writer. He stated “the Discworld is safe in my daughter’s hands.” His daughter is no stranger to his works, and is heavily involved in developing the upcoming Discworld T.V adaptation of The Watch, and will take over when Prachett is unable to continue writing due to his illness.
Angelfall fans you can rejoice! The YA post apocalyptic tale of a young girl searching for her lost sister amidst dangerous angels and cannibalistic children by Susan Ee has been picked up by Sam Raimi for the big screen treatment – This was one of the best books I read last year and I felt it was above the rest of the post apocalyptic YA dystopians which have come out in recent years. The sequel to Angelfall is also slated for the fall of 2013 but this makes me such a happy bunny because I loved the first book like a giddy kid in a sweet shop!
News in Brief:
The Babysitter’s Club books are being digitized and will be re-released in ebooks soon!
There is a slew of YA movie news this week with-
More news on the casting for the movie for Divergent – which has finalised some potential and an actress for Tris has been found which will be played by Shailene Woodley.
And trailers and stills being released for The Host and Beautiful Creatures movies.
Finally this was not a good week for the much publicised Pippa Middleton’s party planning book which she gained a huge advance for is not doing so wel.l It has been widely derided critically and is now being heavily discounted – ouch.
I am loving the cover and book reveals this week because it has some of my long awaited yummy books that I am looking forward to!
Ann Aguirre has teamed up with her husband, Andres, for a brand new steampunk noir called Bronze Gods in their Apparatus Infernum series. For more info check out her interview here at The Nocturnal Library – the book is slated for next April!
Danger stalks the city of steam and shadows.
Janus Mikani and Celeste Ritsuko work all hours in the Criminal Investigation Division, keeping citizens safe. He’s a charming rogue with an uncanny sixth sense; she’s all logic—and the first female inspector. Between his instincts and her brains, they collar more criminals than any other partnership in the CID.
Then they’re assigned a potentially volatile case where one misstep could end their careers. At first, the search for a missing heiress seems straightforward, but when the girl is found murdered—her body charred to cinders—Mikani and Ritsuko’s modus operandi will be challenged as never before. Before long, it’s clear the bogeyman has stepped out of nightmares to stalk gaslit streets, and it’s up to them to hunt him down. There’s a madman on the loose, weaving blood and magic in an intricate, lethal ritual that could mean the end of everything…
Jeanine Frost has released the cover and blurb for the next Night Prince book – Twice Tempted. I have to say this looks like one of my favouite covers because it is smoking hot and I love the step-back illustration!
Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges . . .
Leila’s psychic abilities have been failing her, and now she isn’t sure what the future holds. If that weren’t enough, her lover Vlad has been acting distant. Though Leila is a mere mortal, she’s also a modern woman who refuses to accept the cold shoulder treatment forever–especially from the darkly handsome vampire who still won’t admit that he loves her . . .
Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity . . .
Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit, where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes, Leila must decide who to trust– the fiery vampire who arouses her passions like no other or the tortured knight who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to damn her for eternity . . .
Kim Harrison’s Ever After – the eleventh book in her Hollows series – looks great!
The ever after, the demonic realm that parallels the human world, is shrinking. If it disappears completely, so does all magic. It’s up to witch-turned-daywalking-demon Rachel Morgan to avert catastrophe and keep life from changing… for the worse.
While saving the world is important, it isn’t Rachel’s only motivation. There’s also the small fact that she caused the ley line to rip in the first place, setting off a chain reaction of unfortunate events. That little mistake has made her life forfeit unless she can fix it. It’s also made her more than a few enemies, including the most powerful demon in the ever after—a terrifying entity who eats souls and now has an insatiable appetite for her. He’s already kidnapped her friend and goddaughter to lure her out, and if Rachel doesn’t give herself up soon, they’ll die.
But Rachel has more than a few impressive and frighening skillls of her own, and she isn’t going to hand over her soul and her life without one hell of a fight. She’s also got a surpise: elven tycoon Trent Kalamack. With this unlikely ally beside her—a prospect both thrilling and unnerving—she’s going to return to the ever after, kick some demon butt, rescue her loved ones… and prevent an apocalypse before it’s too late. Or, at least that’s the plan…
So which movie news are you looking forward to? And what do you think of any of the news I highlighted this week?
Host, no way, I tried to read that book but it was so freaking boring
Mmmm…. More Paul Marron…..
I am not really interested in those movie or tv deals, until they are on the screen 🙂 And really, please look at that stepcover. What is with the legs? It just is not right!
