Today we are really happy to welcome back author Laura Kaye here at Book Lovers Inc in celebration of her newest release One Night with a Hero, the second installment in her very sexy and successful The Hero series. Both Stella and myself had absolutely loved the first book in this series, so when we heard the news about this book, we were beyond excited! And with good reason I might add! But let’s leave it to Laura to tell us all about her newest story and don’t forget to check at the end of the post for the giveaway info.
Stella: Hi Laura, welcome back to BLI, so nice to see you again, especially for the release of One Night with a Hero, the second story in your the Hero series! And I think I speak for Anna as well when I say yay! Thanks so much for writing Brady’s story!
Laura: Aw, yay! You’re so welcome! And thanks for having me back again!
Anna: Can you please tell us a bit about your newest release, One Night with a Hero?
Laura: I’d love to! One Night with a Hero is the story of a one-night stand that turns into a lifetime love for two lonely and badly damaged people. Here’s the blurb:
He wants just one night…
After growing up with an abusive, alcoholic father, Army Special Forces Sgt. Brady Scott vowed never to marry or have kids. Sent stateside to get his head on straight— and his anger in check—Brady’s looking for a distraction. He finds it in his beautiful new neighbor’s one-night-only offer for hot sex, but her ability to make him forget is addictive. Suddenly, Brady’s not so sure he can stay away.
…what they need is each other.
Orphaned as a child, community center director Joss Daniels swore she’d never put herself in a position to be left behind again, but she can’t deny herself one sizzling night with the sexy soldier who makes her laugh and kisses her senseless. When Joss
discovers she’s pregnant, Brady’s rejection leaves her feeling abandoned. Now, they must overcome their fears before they lose the love and security they’ve found in each other, but can they let go of the past to create a future together?
Stella: Could you introduce Joss and Brady, the heroine and hero of One Night with a Hero?
Laura: Here are Brady and Joss’s first impressions of one another:
Brady: She shook her head and looked at him, all hint of those tears long gone, the bright green of her eyes still stunning. In bare feet, she stepped into the grass and closed the four- foot gap between them. Brady’s gaze was torn between watching her curvy body move and reading the ink that decorated the side of her foot. Her body won out, the way the thin cotton shirt shaped around her full breasts capturing his attention. She stopped in front of him, and his body went on alert, shoulders tense and muscles tight—not out of fear, but out of anticipation. The tats, the piercings, the hard wariness in her gaze, and the challenging tilt to her chin gave her a tough edge that was just shy of beautiful, but man was he was more than sold.
Joss: Sailor boy. The nickname tugged at Joss’s cheeks. Tall. Built. Light-brown hair kissed by the sun with a hint of blond. All that lean, bare muscle. The way his running shorts had hung low enough to reveal the cut of his hips. Sex on a freaking stick. And a soldier to boot. Bet he looked seriously fine in his dress uniform. Panties probably dropped at the mere sight—thongs, too. Maybe even like the one she was currently wearing.
Anna: Both Brady and Joss are two deeply emotionally wounded characters. What challenges did the fact that you had to “handle” two characters with their own set of scars in the same story pose?
Laura: Actually, in this story, it worked out really well while I was writing, because the things they fear are what make the other person their worst possible match. And that created great conflict that often wrote itself.
Anna: Did you know that someone like Joss would be perfect for Brady while writing Her Forbidden Hero, or her character was something that came later, while you were brainstorming/writing along the way?
Laura: When I was writing Her Forbidden Hero (Heroes #1), all I knew about Brady’s love interest is that she badly wanted a family of her own while he never wanted to marry or have children. Everything else about her came to me as I sat down to write the first chapter of One Night with a Hero.
Anna: In both your novels of The Hero series, you touch on the very delicate subject of domestic violence. How difficult was it to handle such a sensitive matter in your stories and find the perfect balance between realistic yet not too dark for the story?
Laura: I definitely was working to strike a balance between the reality of Brady and Alyssa’s childhoods and keeping the focus on the love story. It helped that some of this came from my own background – my father was an alcoholic, though not abusive – so I
could write about some of the situation from personal experience.
Stella: If One Night with a Hero was made into a movie, who would be your dream cast?
Laura: Love this question! Brady would be played either by Kellan Lutz or Channing Tatum, and Joss by Joss Stone. Funny thing about her name – when I first started writing One Night with a Hero, the heroine’s name was Jess, but it never felt right. When I knew the character would have pink highlights, I searched google for “woman with brown hair and pink highlights” – and these pictures came up that perfectly depicted what I was seeing in my mind. And these pictures were of Joss Stone, and it was then I realized why Jess never felt right.
Stella: Can you summarize One Night with a Hero for us twitterstyle?
Laura: A one-night stand turns into a lifetime love for an emotionally damaged SF soldier & an edgy tattooed childcare worker #OneNightwithaHero
Stella: What shall we expect from you, what is next on your schedule? Will there be more books in The Hero series? And whose stories will it/they be?
Laura: I have so much going on in 2013! The last two Greek-mythology-inspired Hearts of the Anemoi books (South of Surrender is next, and releases in May), the last two Vampire Warrior Kings novellas, and the first book in my new Hard Ink series (November 2013).
There will also be more Hero books! And I’m announcing here on Book Lovers Inc. for the very first time which hero book 3 will feature: From One Night with a Hero: Will, 2-year-old Claire’s dad, a firefighter and prior Army enlisted
No details on when it will release yet, so stay tuned!
Anna: Christmas time is coming, what would be Brady’s gift to Joss for Christmas? Does he have anything special in mind?
Laura: One of the things he’s giving her is a set of keys – a physical representation of his promise that, before he deploys for Afghanistan in the spring, he’ll buy her and their son Nicky a house, something Joss has never had but always wanted
Stella: Can you share with us one of your own holiday traditions or a favourite holiday memory? (Or a special family Christmas recipe?
Laura: I’ll share one of each:
A tradition: The first Christmas my husband and I lived together, we were dirt poor. My husband had a small artificial Christmas tree and a few ornaments, but nothing for the top of the tree. So, using a Healthy Choice frozen meal box and some aluminum foil, I made a star tree-topper. 20 years later, we’re still using that cardboard star.
A recipe (this will tell you a lot about me…): Chocolate Chunk Cookies
Ingredients:
Purchase package(s) of Nestle Toll House Cookie Dough in the flat, pre-shaped/perforated format, each package makes approximately 24 cookies
Scissors, to cut open package
Cookie sheets
Spatula
Cut open packaging and remove tray of perforated cookie dough
Do not leave cookie dough sitting out too long or it will soften and be harder to break apart
Break off pre-shaped piece of dough
Place on cookie sheet approximately two inches apart
Bake according to package instructions
Let cool for 5-10 minutes before eating or packaging
Claim they are homemade 😉

Great interview. Kelang – YES! Now did Twilight influence that choice ;)?
Thank you.
vsloboda(at)gmail(dot)com
LOL! Have always been a Kellan fan! 🙂
I just noticed what auto correct did to Kellan’s name – ha ha. I love him too 🙂
Great interview. Kelang – YES! what was your inspiration for the book?
parisfan_ca@yahoo.com
Many things inspired this book and this series – music, working for the military, and knowing Marco’s (from book 1) best friend would get his own story. Thanks for the question!
Woot! My reading of HER FORBIDDEN HERO was overtaken by a little thing called “prepare your damn final dissertation progress update so you can officially be ready to graduate in May”… but now that it’s the holidays, and I have time away from lab, I can finally get to it!
My question: if you could go on a date with any of your heroes (PNR or contemporary), who would it be? 🙂
stalkers00(at)yahoo(dot)com
LOL! Good luck on your dissertation. I know that pain! 😉
OMG that question…hmm…daydreaming…oh, and him…oh, my…but what about him….OH, sorry! 😉 I think I’d have to pick Kael or Nikoai from the Vampire Warrior Kings series. Because they’re VAMPIRES! And ancient! And VAMPIRES! LOL
I loved both Hero books. I am so excited to read that Will is getting the next book! So here is the question… Since Will is a firefighter will his fellow crew get books as well? Firefighters are such hot hero’s to read about.
I do have an inkling of who Heroes #4 will feature, but I’m not spilling anything yet! 😉 Thanks Michel!
Hi Laura. Loved your interview. My question would be if you started a new holiday tradition with your family what would it be for you?
Merry Christmas!

Hmm…something either with or for my two girls, I think. Like maybe buying an ornament each year for them, to give them when they got married. I’ve often thought of doing that.
Would you believe I do that for my son. Each holiday season we wait until Hallmark has their ornament collection announced and wait til the stores put up their displays. We head over and browse the collection and we both get ornaments each year for the tree. Its a nice tradition and he has ornaments for every year. They usually end up being cartoon or movie related, but they are what he likes so it means more to him. 🙂
When you wrote the first “Hero” novel, did you know there would be more to follow or have they just pop up demanding ther own stories?
purple975@msn.com
Hi Iris! I knew there would be two. I knew book 1’s Marco had a best friend, and that Brady would get a book also. But I didn’t know there would be a book 3 until book 2 was over! And, yes, now they’re popping up and demanding attention! LOL
Lol Laura, I sure wish something like that would be for sale here in Holland, but I have never seen it somewhere in the shops. Thanks, and also for adding what equipment you need.
LOL! maybe someday! 😉
Thanks for the interview. How do you research for your novels? It always seems like a daunting task to me
Thanks for the question, Shannon! It depends on the story. Some require a lot of background research before starting, and others only require research on very specific points (like, how to build an igloo, LOL!). I don’t know how people did it before the internet, though, that’s for sure! 🙂
HI Laura ok so my question is just maybe do you see a follow-up to Hearts in Darkness in the future? Would love to know where Makenna and Caden are now!
minidoc36(AT)gmail(DOT)com
LOL! Let’s put it this way: I’m not sure if there will be a full-on sequel, but there might be more Caden in the future… (how’s that for vague???)
Oh no that is pure torture!!!
You know I love you and so so so love your books!!!! Thanks for the chistmas gift to Joss part!! 🙂
What a great story about your foil star tree topper. That is so precious. You hang on to that star, girl!
catherinelee100 at gmail dot com
We will. Whenever my girls ask for a newfangled lighted one my husband’s all NO WAY! LOL
Love the blurb! Now are all the Heroes going to have army background?
diane dot sadler at gmail dot com
Good question – I’m not sure yet! 🙂
Thank you for the great post…especially about the star! I still have the first Angel topper my (now) husband and I bought together 20 years ago. I smile every year when I take it out of the box.
Aw, that’s awesome!
Hi Laura, are your characters inspired by your friends or family?
I haven’t based any specific characters on specific people, but I will sometimes use lines of dialogue or personality quirks, etc., of people I know!
I’ve said it once, but I’ll keep on saying it (and shouting it from the rooftops): I LOVE ME SOME LAURA KAYE! Love your books, love your characters! I have a million questions, but I’ll keep it simple: What’s your next project?–Expected release date?
Aw, Stephanie, you’re the best! 😀 Let’s see…right now I’m writing South of Surrender (Hearts of the Anemoi #3), which releases May 28. Then I’m going to write my third Vampire Warrior Kings novella (no release date yet). And then I’m going to write the first book of my new Hard Ink series, called Hard As It Gets, which will come out in November. I might also try to squeeze the third Hero book in there somewhere too, but I’ll have to see how it goes! 🙂
I love that picture.I wish I could pull off that hair color 🙂
Great interview. One Night with a Hero sounds really good
I know, right? I would try that too but I think my husband would kill me! LOL
Love that Will is getting his own book. His character intrigued me in One Night With a Hero. You mentioned a new series,Hard Ink. Can you tell us anything about it?
Yay! Glad you’re looking forward to Will! He’s going to be fuuun to write! 🙂 The Hard Ink series is contemporary romance about a group of ex Special Forces soldiers who run a renegade operation against an organized crime ring out of the back of a tattoo shop. Romance ensues along the way! The first book is called HARD AS IT GETS and will release November 2013! Can’t wait!
Laura i love that you included something christmas related for Brady & Joss! Loved this interview!
Yay! So glad you enjoyed! 🙂
Hi, fabulous thank you. Do you find you are inspired by events – let’s say Christmas?
I can be, yes. That was part of the reason why I made many of the major plot points in Brady and Joss’s relationship take place on holidays. Fun question!
Hi Laura, best wishes on the new book. It seems like you have quite a few releases coming out. Do you write full time, or do you have to work at an evil day job?
Hi Jen – I *love* this question! I just switched to writing full time this week!!!! So excited!
Thanks for the interview! There’s been so many questions already, so sorry if someone has already asked this… what’s your favorite scene in One Night with a Hero?
Hi Laura,
I’m a huge fan of your books , you have a way with words …. ! it’s amazing I can’t put any of your books down until I finish it!
and all the yummy Heroes!… Can’t wait for your next book to come out!
Now as for my question :What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
would LOVE to win & read!
PICK ME!
what’s your fave Christmas song??
This looks like a satisfying read! I’m curious: would you ever attempt an m/m story?
Great post! The book sounds great! My question is — Who are some of your favorite authors to read? Any of them particularly inspiring in your career?
Both of these books were absolutely wonderful. What’s in your TBR pile?
