Description:
Hy Breasil is grimmer than it used to be.
Before the Architect closed the door, there were regular crossings, and a great war decimated both humans and Ferishers. The native fae who refused to treat with the invaders faded; their bodies withered and died, stranding them as hungry, angry spirits that haunt the countryside.
That means there’s always trouble brewing in Dorstaad.
Janus Mikani and Celeste Ritsuko work for the Criminal Investigation Department, keeping citizens safe from things that go bump in the night. He’s a hardboiled cynic with an uncanny sixth sense; she’s determined to justify her promotion as the first female detective in her division. Together, they’re trying to keep a black tide from drowning the city.
But when the second body surfaces, murdered with the same type of infernal device, the entire CID must face the truth. There’s a madman on the loose, twining magic and blood… and only Mikani and Ritsuko can unravel the intricate, lethal conspiracy before the Royale killer completes his macabre plan, unleashing old, forbidden magic on an unsuspecting populace. If the maniac succeeds, it could mean the end of everything… [read excerpt]

I’ll tell ya, folks. This week sure does hit all the necessary genre fiction notes. YA dystopians? (The Ward; The Program) Check. Historical romances with pun-tastic titles? (The Prince’s Bride) Light, Contemporary Romance named after a quaint rural community? (Wind Chime Point) Check. Romantic suspense with spicy, handsome, deadly hero? (Against the Edge; Bare It All) Check. Steamy steampunk romance? (Wicked as She Wants; Clockwork Mafia) Check.
There’s bound to be some trope, subgenre, or author in this bunch that you love and glom. For many, that’s likely to include A.A. Aguirre’s debut, Bronze Gods, the first in a new steampunk series. (Debut because it’s not only the beloved Ann Aguirre–autobuy author FTW!–but also her husband Andres. This has a high likelihood of being extremely badass. Just sayin’.) Other highly anticipated titles include the latest from Joey W. Hill, Delilah Dawson, MLN Hanover, Katie Reus, Susan Mallery, and more. Just call it the week of the autobuy…
. . .
Anything from this week’s bunch going straight to the shopping cart? Do you have any autobuy authors (and if so, who are they)?
Nothing there that I wanted though!
I used to auto buy Kelley Armstrong. Until there were a couple terrible outings in her Women of the Otherworld series. And she did that atrociously bad YA series. Now I do not autobuy. Though I will still pre-order when the awesomeness of one book compels me to snatch up a sequel.
Oh, I *want* Ann Aguirre’s (or A.A. Aguirre) Bronze Gods. That looks very tempting. I have Midnight Secrets for review on my kindle.. and I’m seriously thinking about picking up Jenna Black’s Rogue Descendant.
My pre-orders for Bronze Gods and Oath Bound arrived yesterday…so excited to read both of these books! 🙂
The cover for Bronze Gods really caught my eye. The blurb sounds so intriguing to me. I’ll want to see your review on this one for sure.
I do want some of those books on your list, but the only one I did pre order was Sara Humpreys.
Only ONE Paul Marron cover! Not enough! But my wallet is happy though.
