Book Lovers Book Club: Coming Soon! Suggestions needed!

Hello everyone!

So the girls and I have been throwing around the idea of doing a book club for a little while now and naturally we would love to get all of our wonderful readers involved.

The book club will be a monthly event, a new book will be chosen (by you guys) every month within a different genre. But first we need some suggestions!

Each book that you suggest must be either a stand alone or the first in a series. You can suggest any genre, any author, any anything! Just leave your suggestion Tile + Author in the comments below. I want all kinds of genres! Nothing is off limits here. (Please someone suggest some graphic novels! I have fallen in love with them, and I would love for the rest of the girls to fall in love with them also)

We are also going to do a secondary book club each month, with a series read along, again we need some suggestions from you guys, the only rules that apply to the series book club is that it needs to be an older series that has had all of it’s installments published (or the last installment will be published within the next two months). Just so we can avoid getting halfway through a series and then being forced to stop because we’ve run out of books!

So that’s pretty much it. Any suggestions are welcome, and in two weeks I will post the first round of books for you guys to choose!

Sorry, but a bookclub is not for me. I am a mood reader, and I really hate reading on command or demand. Also, although I do like your blog and most of your posts, you really do not share the majority of my taste here. If I have read the book already, I will be happy to share my thoughts on the book though.

That’s why I only suggested books either already in my TBR pile. Or books I read already. Or both.

I have to agree with you about the genre selections here. There needs to be more dragon. I try to keep the dragon ratio up – but it’s so much easier to write an angry review than a gushing review. So my dragons wallow in obscurity while I shred their less-worthy counterparts.

But if the readers require it, I will redouble my efforts to increase the number of dragon-shaped reviews.

Fair enough hun. Not every thing is for every one. I’m glad that you will input of you have read the chosen book for the month. What genres do you enjoy it of curiosity? I like to think that you and I somewhat think alike and I’m all for new genres.

Well, the blog is getting taken over by contemporary romance, and that is the genre I read the least. I love urban fantasy, paranormal romance, historical romance and cozy mysteries, but I switch it of with some fantasy romance, sci fi romance and romantic suspense. So reading one series back to back for a book club is not something I can do without burning out on that genre completely. Lol, or you can visit my blog to see what I read: http://www.boeklogboek.blogspot.com

I can’t wait for the final book of the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris. It defintely is a series that I have read the books multiple times and love them more each time. I would suggest Dead Until Dark.
Also I have been anticipating the next Sherrilyn Kenyon Dark Hunter book Styxx. When I started reading her books last year I couldn’t put them down, so I would recommend Fantasy Lover, the prequel to the Dark Hunter series.

Graphic Novel: Freak Angels (or Girl Genius)

    Zombies: Feed

    Dragons (friendly): Dealing with Dragons

    Dragons (badass): Eon

Epic Fantasy (eventually with dragons): Daggerspell

    Vampires: Pretty When She Dies

    Demons: Never Knew Another

Science Fiction: The Gate of Ivory

Time Travel: Blackout (actually not certain which book is first. Wibbley-wobbly timey-wimey. But since my first Doctor Who episode was WWII themed, this seems appropriate.)

Superheroes: Santa Olivia (or Black and White)

Terry Pratchett (what? He is practically his own genre): Hogfather (or Lords and Ladies).

GAH! I am feeling oppressed by your disdain for the standalone. What is not to love about a good standalone? Why are you….and it just occurred to me that perhaps I am not amongst those people who are supposed to be offering book suggestions.

Suggestions are welcome from everywhere hun. I am hoping the book club is here to stay… so we’re going to need a lot of books! !!

You are asking for it now. I can give lists. LISTS NEVER ENDING LISTS. Aurian, what genre do you want? I will make a lengthy demanding list. 🙂

Sweetie that’s what the first book club is for. Stand alone or first in series.

I will have to fix the wording of the post when I get home. I was worried when I wrote it that it looked odd lol. I am all for stand alones!! I love stand alones! Hehe 😀

  • ki pha May 6, 2013 at 7:11 pm

Stand alones are Awesome!! Can there be novellas too??
    Suggestions:
    Tarnished by Karina Cooper
Lord and Lady Spy by Shana Galen

    • Amanda May 6, 2013 at 7:27 pm

Definitely! ! Anything you guys want we’ll make space for it 😀

I’m all for Lord and Lady Spy by Shana Galen!! Had it in my TBR pile for a year or so but didn’t get around to read it yet. Would love to have the book club motivate me 😀

I’m not much of a group/club kinda person, but I’ll give it a try.

Agree with aurian that contemps are my least favorite.

    Some starting suggestions:
Ann Aguirre’s Grimspace (1st Sirantha Jax book, 6 in series)
    Any Susanna Kearsley (they’re standalones)
Sherry Thomas’s Delicious, Not Quite a Husband, or His at Night (standalones)
Joanna Bourne’s The Spymaster’s Lady (can be a standalone)

I’m drawing a blank for more right now, but may throw some other ideas out later. . .

  • Arely Z. May 9, 2013 at 6:06 pm

Three Wishes by Kristen Ashley. It’s a standalone and REALLY good. (pretty much any Kristen Ashley book is amazing.)

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern, also a standalone.

Escorted by Claire Kent, erotica, standalone, amazing.
