Good afternoon!
I hope you are all having a lovely day. Mine was absolutely terrible because we’re in the middle of a wet spot in Sydney and I haven’t been completely dry since Friday. But enough about that 😀 because today I wanted to give you an update on the state of my shelves.
Why? You may ask. Has something drastic changed that has merited this update?
Why yes, dear readers, it has. You see I moved last November and have nearly finished settling in to my new home (with my new hubby :D). My bookshelves have grown since you last saw them, my TBR pile is now at 90 (far out how did it get that high) and I still have absolutely no room. I honestly thought I’d have room to spare after stacking my shelves, but alas it filled up a lot quicker than I anticipated…as per usual
Unfortunately I don’t have any before pictures to show you, but the shelf I am about to show you runs the entire length of the largest bedroom in our house. (It’s a little sad because the largest bedroom is also my library, my wardrobe and the guest bedroom…I had accumulated a lot of stuff over the years and less than half of it’s left after donating most of it.)
The light at the end of this tunnel for me is that we will be moving again soon and…
*drumroll*
Hubster will be building me a library……*squeedom* #luckiestwomanever #don’tbejealous
So here is my latest shelf for my books. I will be quite honest and say that I don’t like it, it’s difficult to get to, hard to arrange to my liking so that all of the books I want on show have ample eye space, but I’m making do, because it won’t be for too much longer. My famed Book Wall is no longer 🙁 I had considered rebuiling it, but short and sweet, we don’t have much floor space. You’ll notice that there are no photos below the shelf…because the rest of this room still looks like a bomb’s hit it…we actually have a washing machine in there as well…an two sinks – life with a plumber isn’t all jumping over tortoises and collecting power ups you know.
This is the business end of my shelf, writing stuff, reference books, horrible histories (they count as reference…right?) and of course the three bottles of True Blood I have left. The only books not there are all of my accounting text books and tax codes, they were donated. You can also see the dust gathering pile of books to review, I had a slump a while back and was reading but not reviewing, I will get around to it one day because I still remember all the stories…but I don’t think it will be soon.
In this photo we have TBR pile (no more wall 🙁 ) Currently I’m trying to keep the books I will most likely read soon to the forefront, I also seperate all of the first in series books (because I tend to buy whole series at a time) and keep them in a seperate pile, there is also a pile of next in series books in there somewhere. I’m still unhappy with this arrangement…but it will have to do for now.
My bookshelf is once again in a wardrobe, so I have put my least likely to read books and disliked books behind the partition in the doors. Hard to get to and Fifty Shades Freed (and book two whatever the hell that was called) aren’t on show to the general public (I don’t want visitors knowing I have that…it’s too embarrasing, even if I hate them)
We’re also starting to see the bulk of what I’ve read over the years…
And here it is Sookie Stackhouse, JK Rowling, Jeaniene Frost, Richelle Mead, Jessica Shirvington and Robin Hobb have prime real estate here. All the others are quadruple (that’s right this goes four deep, people) stacked behind them.
Another look at my lovelies 🙂 You can also see from this photo that the inside of the cupboard will let me stack even higher…Currently I am trying to avoid going too high…because I don’t want it to topple…but if I continue buying books (which certain spouses aren’t overly enthused about at the moment because of the move next year) then I will need to reconsider. You will also see where certain spunky handymen (and women…I helped too) had to reinforce the shelf…because only a quarter of my books and my clothes hanging underneath…nearly collapsed the shelf.
So there you have it, my updated shelves 😀 I love my books and the fantastic part about my current house is that these cupboard doors are never closed…so my books are on show all the time 🙂
Do you have any cramped living conditions? Are you happy with your current library situation?
Congrats on the upcoming library.
I have too many books, not enough shelves. Most of my books are in storage. Yay for ebooks.
See I think I’m very possessive which is why I don’t like e books. I love being able to see what I read and a virtual shelf just isn’t the same as a physical shelf for me. I have a couple of ebooks that are favourites of mine like the Denazen series and it will never be on show with the favorites 🙁
A TBR WALL?! That is the best idea ever. If I weren’t in a tenuous rental situation complicated by my pissing off one of the two primary landlords in town through lawsuits – well then I would totally begin plans for a TBR wall.
No landlords needed hun :). It’s like Lego but with books. And if you build it on the floor just right. .. you can pull any book out and it won’t topple. .. like Jenga 😀
