Welcome to this week’s news post! And this week has been a doozy with updates from popular authors such as Patricia Briggs, Kim Harrison and Kelley Armstrong.
But first up, it seems the repercussions for Orson Scott Card’s posts is ongoing with a progressive group who has launched a petition for his removal from the University of North Carolina Public Television board. His op-ed post which was received a huge backlash has made other members unhappy with his position. Whether or not his removal will happen remains to be seen.
Kelley Armstrong’s tv adaption of BITTEN has been picked up in the US by the SyFy channel. The show will air in Canada and Stateside sometime next year. Kelley posted a Q&A on some of the concerns of the adaption on her tumblr page and stated ‘I can 100% guarantee you that the TV show will not alter one word of my books. They won’t be reissued with changes, nor will anything in the TV show affect upcoming stories. The show is a completely separate entity. While there are some readers who would prefer that a TV version didn’t exist, there are many more who want one. The #1 question I get asked is: when will series x become a movie/TV show? There’s enough of a demand that I’ve never felt I could refuse to sell rights. For those who want to see the show, they’ll now get that chance. Those who don’t…? Skip it. I promise I won’t come to your house and force you to tune in ;)’
Meanwhile, Patricia Briggs has confirmed that she is working on an all new Graphic novel based on the Mercyverse. No details yet on who will feature but it will be released under Dynamite comics who have previously published the ALPHA AND OMEGA graphic novel for CRY WOLF.
And talking about Patricia Briggs, Tor has posted a wonderful blog post on the new cover for next Mercy Thompson novel – NIGHT BROKEN which is due next March. Tor has posted several potential drafts of the cover and the final version which you can check below.
Note: While I was posting this which has caused the delay of the news post being posted. Goodreads has decided to update its terms for posting and shelving reviews on their site which you can check out here. But if any of you have a badly behaved author shelf or anything deemed not in ‘spirit of Goodreads’ will have reviews removed without any warning. I would suggest you would back up any reviews or catalogue shelving names just in case. I will probably post more on this and the fallout but what my tweet stream is telling me is that this has driven a lot of people away from the site due to this new terms.
News in Brief:
Kim Harrison has posted the cover for UNDEAD POOL which is shown below but also the first chapter and I am a happy fangirl that Trent is featured finally on the cover and the excerpthas made my mouth water for the book.
Jennifer L. Armentrout has confirmed that the option for her YA Covenent series has been picked up by Herrek Entertainment.
And finally Kresley Cole has announced that she is publishing an erotic serial which will be released in 3 parts from December. It will be called THE GAME MAKER series with the first book entitled THE PROFESSIONAL. It looks interesting. She’s also confirmed the next IAD couple will be Lanthe and Thronos with their book tentatively out next Spring!
And now for the books to watch out for which I think this week’s edition is on my book lust list!
The 8th Mercy Thompson book, which promises to have more danger for trouble-magnet Mercy is out next March.
#1 New York Times bestselling author Patricia Briggs’s Mercy Thompson series has been hailed as “one of the best” (Fiction Vixen). Now, Mercy must deal with an unwanted guest—one that brings a threat unlike anything she’s ever known.
An unexpected phone call heralds a new challenge for Mercy. Her mate Adam’s ex-wife is in trouble, on the run from her new boyfriend. Adam isn’t the kind of man to turn away a person in need—and Mercy knows it. But with Christy holed up in Adam’s house, Mercy can’t shake the feeling that something about the situation isn’t right.
Soon, her suspicions are confirmed when she learns that Christy has the farthest thing from good intentions. She wants Adam back and she’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen, including turning Adam’s pack against Mercy.
Mercy isn’t about to step down without a fight, but there’s a more dangerous threat circling. Christy’s ex is more than a bad man—in fact, he may not be human at all. As the bodies start piling up, Mercy must put her personal troubles aside to face a creature with the power to tear her whole world apart.
Kim Harrison’s THE UNDEAD POOL finally has Trent on the cover! WANTZ!
Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan has managed to save the demonic ever after from shrinking, but at a high cost. Now strange magic is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong, and the truce between the races, between Inderlander and human, is shattering.
Rachel must stop the occurrences before the undead vampire masters who keep the rest of the undead under control are lost and it becomes all-out supernatural war. However, the only way to do so is through the ancient elven wild magic, which carries its own perils.
And finally Kristen Ashley’s JAGGED whose cover was revealed this week.
An old flame rekindled . . .

As soon as Ham hears about Zara’s plight, he’s on her doorstep offering her a lifeline. Now, it will take every ounce of will power she possesses to resist all that he offers.
Ham was always a traveling man, never one to settle down in one town, with one woman, for more time than absolutely necessary. But Ham’s faced his own demons, and he’s learned a lot. About himself, and about the life he knows he’s meant to live. So when he hears that Zara’s having a rough time, he wants to be the one to help. In fact, he wants to do more than that for Zara. A lot more. But first, he must prove to Zara that he’s a changed man.

“But first up, it seems the repercussions for Orson Scott Card’s posts is ongoing with a progressive group who has launched a petition for his removal from the University of North Carolina Public Television board.”
H’m, wouldn’t that be more accurately rendered “a repressive group”?
Great post, I look forward to the new Patricia Briggs book for sure.
Thanks for the link to the teaser chapter for the Harrison book–but I think it’s going to make it even harder to wait ’til next Feb!
will go to check goodreads, now i can’t wait fdor the new mercy thompson ( great cover) and trent is so good looking on teh cover!
Ooh, I love that cover for the next Hollows book! I really like the fact that they look very much like real people. Sometimes with all the design that goes in to book covers, I feel like the people on the covers look very drawn or painted, even when they’re real models. And I can’t wait for this book, I’m so glad about all-things-Trent from the last couple of books.
Not sure how I feel about that description for the newest Mercy Thompson book, but I do like the cover.
