Explore This!: Manhattan
In Sylvia Day’s Bared to You, the heroine, Eva, has just left her home in San Diego, crossing the country to Manhattan to start a new job. I thought it would be nice to take a look at this often mentioned, affluent part of New York City. Manhattan is one of five boroughs in the city, though maybe one of the more familiar of them all, as seen in films and TV shows.
Manhattan was the origins of the city of New York, from which the town expanded north. It lays claim to many famous landmarks as well as being the former site of the Twin Towers. For that fact alone, its skyline, then and now, has to been one of the most recognizable in the world.

A site probably more familiar to the world than perhaps what Manhattan looks like now. Also, one that elicits a range of emotions and will for many years to come.
Considering downtown traffic, this has to be a quick way to travel in Manhattan.

So there’s lots of sites that many, if not all, of us can easily name. But for all of you that have traveled there, or even live there, I want to hear about the best places that are lesser known; the inside scoop if you will.

My kids love to visit NYC. Their favorite spot remains the indoor ferris wheel at Toys r Us. They also enjoy the bustling atmosphere of Carmines restaurant in Times Square. Although we’ve stayed in different hotels my favorite is 70 Park Avenue in Mid Manhattan. It’s a boutique hotel in a nice central location with a wonderful staff.
Books set in NYC? Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin, the Hot Zone trilogy by Carly Phillips, Body Check by Deirdre Martin…
You forgot to highlight the rats. You can’t discuss NYC without mentioning the rats.
Frankly, I always had a thing for the American Museum of Natural History. Yes, the Met, MoMA, and the Guggenheim are all cool but nothing’s quite like seeing life-sized models of giant creature to scare the dickens out of small children.
Another huge plus for kids is that ticket prices at museum are “suggested” so if you were a kid, you can get away with paying a lot less (like one of my friends did when she decided to be truant by going to the Cloisters instead of school back when she was in fifth grade).
I’ve never been to New York and would really love to visit there one day. But I think I’ll skip the rats…. :o)
Manhattan or New York in general looks like such a great place to live except for the weather and parking, and everything else lol. Maybe just to visit then.
