Hey Everyone!
With one of this week’s guest author (Christi Barth) and her novel Planning For Love I realized we never discussed wedding romances, and summer being the season for weddings, now is the perfect time!
What are wedding romances you ask? Well romance stories which are focused around weddings! Either the heroine or the hero (or both of them) has a wedding related job, like wedding planner, photographer, florist, baker, etc.
Long before I realized these kinds of books existed I was already a fan of this type of movies: My Best Friend’s Wedding, The Wedding Planner, etc. Even if the movie wasn’t of great quality I very much enjoyed getting a glimpse of the behind the scenes of how a wonderful lavish wedding is put together. And when this is combined with a group of close friends, so that besides the wedding preparations we get the laughs and cries of friendships and loves, in my opinion that makes the perfect blend of sweet romance! (just look at these covers, aren’t they wonderfully suggestive, you can almost taste the bubbles in that apricot champagne! 😉 )
So if you are like me and love to get your small dose of tulle, pastel frosting and bouquet talk (even if you wouldn’t want the whole sequin-crazy shebang for your own wedding) you don’t have to wait for the next rom com, you can get your fixing of wedding talk by reading a wedding romance. So far I have found and read the first 3 novels in Nora Roberts’ Bride Quartet series and Planning For Love in Christi Barth’s Aisle Bound trilogy, but I also found this list of recommendation.
So please tell me,
Do you like wedding themed movies/novels?
What are your favourite wedding movies?
Any good wedding romance novels you could recommend?
Great post Stella, I never much put my contemporary books in categories though. So my first thought also went to the Nora Roberts quartet, which I still have to start reading someday. I know there is a cozy mystery series with a wedding planner as the sleuth, but I can’t remember the name of the author.
I do like reading about weddings, and all the plannings necessary. Even though I never plan on marrying myself. My boyfriend has been married, and never wants to make that mistake again, and I never really cared for it. It does cost an enormous amount of money if you want to do it right.
Until now I haven’t either, but while I was reading Planning for Love I saw this sub-category and as I enjoy reading about the wedding business would love to discover more similar stories/series.
Re: weddings what I don’t get/like is that in a lot of contemporary romances to have the happy ending the author forces/rushes the proposal to conclude with the promise of marriage. Why couldn’t two people be happy in a committed relationship for the time being? I’m not against marriage and weddings, I hope to get married one day, but sometimes that ending just doesn’t suit the story and feels forced.
