Book Blurb:
Not all that glitters is gold.Nikolai Krasnorada leads the life of a corporate nomad. Working for a gold explorations company, he’s never put down roots, and he likes it that way. Roots can be dangerous, as everyone from his “man-hating” sister to his manipulative mother to his war-traumatized father has proven.
But when his CEO sends him to Toronto to strike a deal with LeBeau Mining, Nikolai meets Henri LeBeau, crown prince to the resources conglomerate and inveterate flirt. Sparks fly immediately, despite the business deal that threatens to go sour and Nikolai’s own reluctance to give Henri false hope about him being Mr. Right. He’s barely come to terms with his bisexuality, and getting involved with Henri would get messy.
When LeBeau Mining launches a hostile takeover bid, Nikolai and Henri find themselves on opposite sides of the negotiating table. But fortunately—or perhaps unfortunately—for Nikolai, Henri’s not nearly as interested in his company as he is in his heart.
My Thoughts:
Gold Digger is like Cheesecake, you start with a bite you end up eating the whole cake. (Warning this review might have been written after a Cheesecake Orgy). Yes I started my review with the end but I needed to warn you of how addictive this book is.
Since I’ve been ‘stalking’ the author on Twitter/Goodreads (etc… <== Being vague: Way to avoid restraining orders *wink*), I knew before starting that this would be a light and cute romance (not the heavy tortured kind from previous books by this author**). Oh and how it worked for me! I loved how this book made me feel. I smiled so much my cheeks ached. <3 I really needed this.
If you’ve read Aleksandr’s Special Forces books (Free on his website) then you already know about Nikolai and his family history. More particularly his father Vadim, who was the hero of the Special Forces series. But never fear, you don’t need to have read it to read Gold Digger. It’s just the cherry on top of the cake. 😉
Nikolai never stays put, always travelling for work his life can fit into 2 suitcases. His family could at best be described as a dysfunctional one. Nothing ‘normal’ about it. I think I loved that this made him open to anything. He’s a very loyal friend and he cares deeply about his job. When his work leads him to meet the (corporate) sharks of Lebeau Mining, he never expected he would meet someone like Henri.
Henri LeBeau is probably the only decent human being in the Lebeau Mining company. I loved his flirty, humorous ways. He has a thing to put Nikolai at ease, he’s friendly and well…openly gay. Nikolai knows better than to stick to the old ‘straight/gay’ categories, his family is proof enough that life is more complicated than that. Until now he’d only been with women but when Henri make him a very tempting offer, he’s not afraid to act on it. I loved that there was no ‘angst’, Nikolai doesn’t freak out or have a revelation about his identity. It feels like the natural progression of his life.
Henri knows what he likes, he was wild enough in his past to know what he wants now. Henri and Nikolai together just worked for me. The sex is hot, I mean…HOT. They are both quickly on the same page when it comes to their little fantasies. Nom. But past the great sex they both enjoy their time together. Henri is so endearing and funny. I loved how they started off with just a physical affair and ended up with a tender and adorable relationship. I’ve reread the first time they kissed at least ten time <3. Yes it all went a bit too fast to make it really believable, but I’m ready to bend the rules this time around. 😉
The other really awesome thing about Gold Digger is seeing Nikolai work at having a real great relationship with his dad. It made me feel so happy to see them together. Also it’s just perfect seeing Vadim’s HEA *wink*. I told you it’s an adorably sweet story.
Gold Digger is a quick, sweet and sexy romance. It’ll make you smile and leave you feeling good and happy. It’s like that piece of awesome cake that makes you drool minus all the calories. In other words, go ahead and eat it up!
I give Gold Digger 4,5 Stars
**Which were awesome in a totally different way
