We are very happy to welcome the wonderful Blodeuedd here today. If you venture into bloglandia on a regular basis I’m sure you saw her around. She’s chatty and has a spidey sense for detecting new posts going up somewhere. We love her for her constant support and well she’s our guest reviewer so we love her even more for putting up with us.

Today Blodeuedd will share her favorite reads of all time. Be sure to tell us what you think in the comments.

Thank you Book Lovers Inc for inviting me for a guest post 😀 I am thrilled to be here, and congrats on your 1000 follower celebration! Keep up the amazing work.
My topic for the day is top 5 books, my top 5 books. And yes sure there are books that moved me, books that were written so beautifully that my heart ached. But nope, they are not on this list. This list is all about books that I can read again and again without getting tired of them. They are the top 5 of my heart.
1. Magician by Raymond E.Feist
I do think this might have been the first long book I read in English and it was the turning point for me. I never looked back and focused only on English after it. It is also an amazing book that I used to re-read every year (up to a certain point when I did not have time to any more), I think I have read it about 8 times and I love it just as much every time. It is epic fantasy about a boy named Pug who grows up to become a magician, and fight the invaders that has come from another realm. I freaking love it.
2. The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan
I miss Jordan like crazy, he was a wonderful author and if you talk epic then yes look at this series. The Wheel of Time is a series I have been reading forever it seems. I started to read it in Swedish, then I moved on to English and there is still one book left to read, so hurry up Brandon Sanderson! This is book 1, and if you are a fantasy lover you know the story, a farmboy gets swept away by adventure, magic, evil beings and good times. Yes, the series is long, perhaps too long, but it feels I know the world like my own.
3. Dune by Frank Herbert
I am not really a big sci-fi reader, because I do not like ships, galactic fights and all that. Instead I am drawn to sci-fi that is different (same with movies and tv). And Dune, aye, Dune is just awesome (and it also has the honors of having the worst movie being made from it.) I like the desert world, the philosophy and just everything. If you want to read sci-fi then read this book.
4. Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb

It’s easy choosing the first book in a series so I will continue with that. Like with all the books before this is another series that I have read many times. The tale of a bastard who becomes an assassin and tries his best to work for the kingdom he serves. Hobb is by the way truly evil, she always makes her heroes suffer and if there is one fictional character I would like to hug then it is Fitz. The poor poor man *hugs him*.
5. Dragon Wing by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman

Book 1 was maybe not my favorite, there might have been another one I liked more, but it will just stand for the entire series again. This book (and series) had me staying up all night reading and I could not put it down. I also really like the “hero”, a term that does not really apply to him at first, he is an anti-hero out to free his people from their jail and take over the world surrounding it. But he starts to like the lowly humans, elves and dwarves that he comes across.
There you have it, my top 5, and yes mostly fantasy. There is a reason why I love the genre so much and why it is a comfort genre for me. I could not recommend all these book enough to you all, and the series which they are a part of.Places to find Blodeuedd:

Awwwwww that is so sweet *hugs* I love my intro 😀

Thank you for having me over today at this most awesome blog!

And I totally forgot to mention that The Hitchiker's guide to the galaxy rocks too. Than one could be there at 5 b 😉

Those books sound all really interesting (and I agree the movie Dune is awful, and that is why I never thought about icking up the book)! As I dn't read all that much in the fantasy genre I have to admit that I haven't read any of them (yet).

I still have to try reading Robin Hobb in English. I borrowed some of Hobb's book from my mother, but those were the Dutch translations and they were horrible. You could taste in each sentence that is was translated and not very well at that.

  • Alyssa@Teens Read and Write October 13, 2011 at 1:10 pm

I haven't read any of these so I'd better catch up! Especially with Robin Hobb – I've only heard great things. And if you're read Magician eight times – well that says it all!

  • Blodeuedd October 13, 2011 at 1:15 pm

    Birgit
Oh yes the movie is like….O_O I am so glad I read the book before I watched it. Do read the book though

I hear you. The Swedish translation of many fantasy books are horrid! They are written for 10 year old boys, and that is taking everything that makes them good away

  • Diana October 13, 2011 at 1:23 pm

I haven't read any of these books. The truth is I don't really like this genre so much but Assassin’s Apprentice sounds great.

    Thank you for the giveaway!

I loved Dune! I read the book after seeing the movie. The only one I've read in the series; hopefully I'll remedy that some day.

Lol, yes that does say it all 🙂 Eight times, and I want to read it again but re-reading these days does just not happen

    Diana
It is a great series and I am sure you would love Fitz too

    Ana
I surprised you there 😉 Oh yes romance does not even come near on my best ever list. I love it but I always just love it for a moment. Not true love in the end

    Steph
I read Children of Dune too, but there it stopped for me

    Carrie
I do hope you give some of them a try 😀

Great book choices here! I've read all of them except for Dragon Wing. For some reason I haven't read any of the books in the series, even though I have them. I'll have to make sure to fix this soon.

  • Mel October 13, 2011 at 3:41 pm

Oh Blodeuedd, I would have sworn that Pride and Prejudice would have been your No 1 book to re-read! So disappointed! 😉

I'm also feeling ashamed that of your top 5 I've only read Assassin's Apprentice…but that is one of my favourites too. Although I prefer the Liveships trilogy. I do have the first of The Eye of the World series so I will have to read it at some point! 🙂

Great list Blodeuedd! The only one I did not like, was Dune. Perhaps just too young when I tried it.
My Question: have you ever read Maggie Furey? Those books are re-reads for me as well. Love Feist, and Jordan, and Hobb. Weiss and Hickman have lost me as a reader.

Great list Blodeuedd! I especially love Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy, she's a brilliant writer. And poor, poor Fitz! She sure doesn't make things easy for him!

I still have to read Dune *hangs head in shame*. Hope to come to them soon (:

Oh do not listen to me, I just loved the book so much and you know nothing compares then 🙂

    Simcha
The first time around I read a translation and was all meh, then I read them in English and just could not put them down

    Mel
    I am a woman of surprises 😉
I was not that fond of the Liveships series, it was just not for me, and I got some mad over the rape cos later it was just forgotten, wtf

    Aurian
I read her…*headdesk* Aurian! series. Now why did I not think of that sooner?! I liked those but I do not want to re-read cos they only got them in Swedish and I know that I would dislike it then this time around if the translation feels bad

    Celine
    I know *sobs' Fitz!

    jen B
I hope to read the first Kushiel books soon 🙂

  • Kaetrin October 14, 2011 at 4:46 am

I loved Magician. I had a little thing for Arutha…

I did enjoy the first 5 books in the Wheel of Time series but then I got lost in the 6th book where it seemed like NOTHING HAPPENED and I couldn't remember anyone and there were too many people and NOTHING HAPPENED and then I gave up.

And then, I started reading only romance books again. I think Silverthorn counts as a romance though 🙂

Fabulous giveaway! Thank you for sharing your faves : ) For a book lover, having a favorite genre is like having a second home that is always warm and welcoming. At its best, it is a very private and personal place that is unfazed by any outside intrusions. I really read a wide variety of books during my childhood and teen years. After I graduated and started working, older family members required care and assistance. We also always had a number of pets, many of them resuce and abuse cases. As life went on, with or without me, my free time to read became more precious. My comfort reading genre is Historical Western Romance. Now I am in my fifties, my immediate family is gone, and I have my devoted family of rescue cats for company. These last few years have been a wonderful "reading renaissance" for me. I have discovered many new authors and expanded my reading horizons beyond my wildest dreams. The literary world is a wonderful world indeed!

Okay I haven't read any of these, but do vaguely recall Dune as being sci-fi. They all sound good though (my favourite books tend to be less epic and more about characters that I fall in love with and all their relationship issues). Thanks!

I haven't read any of these books but I really like what you wrote about Assassin’s Apprentice. I like when a book isn't all about happiness and love. The real world isn't that good. Look at for example Victor Hugo's Miserables – I love that book, maybe because I felt so sorry about Cosette and her mother. It's a really great book! 🙂
