Welcome to this week’s news post! For this edition, we have a slew of book news and upcoming titles, Macmillan’s new joint venture with Entangled as well our usual titles to watch out for!
Entangled and Macmillan announced two joint ventures this week. With the first one, Entangled successful and selected e-books will be distributed via Macmillan and its imprints like St Martin’s press to all territories where Macmillan distributes to. Along with this new partnership, Entangled and Macmillan will also launch an new e-imprint St Martins/Entangled which will be a digital first imprint which will also select titles for print. It is not the first time a digital first publisher have joined up forces with a print publisher but I think this is a sign that digital first publishing model is becoming more popular with traditional publishing especially since most have set up or now partnered up with a digital first imprints.

Sebastian Xenakis is still coming into his power as a wizard. He can shapeshift by magical means and runs as a wolf using the power he draws from the elements. But young women are dying—raped by a human and then slaughtered by a wolf. Suspicion falls on the shapeshifting Chanku, but Sebastian wonders if he might somehow be guilty of the crimes.
Then he meets Lily Cheval, the uncrowned princess of the powerful Chanku, and realizes he will do whatever it takes to clear his name and win her love. But evil walks where Sebastian goes, and there are mysteries neither Lily nor her father, the powerful wizard, Anton Cheval, cannot unravel. Is Sebastian the perfect mate for Lily, or is he instead, one she should fear?
The Flame in the Mist by Kit Grindstaff looks like old skool fantasy which I love and this looks fun!
Set in an imagined past, this dark fantasy-adventure is for fans of Philip Pullman’s The Golden Compass. Features Jemma, a fiery-headed heroine held captive in Agromond Castle, yet destined to save mist-shrouded Anglavia.
Fiery-headed Jemma Agromond is not who she thinks she is, and when the secrets and lies behind her life at mist-shrouded Agromond Castle begin to unravel, she finds herself in a chilling race for her life. Ghosts and misfits, a stone and crystals, a mysterious book, an ancient prophecy—all these reveal the truth about Jemma’s past and a destiny far greater and more dangerous than she could have imagined in her wildest fantasies. With her telepathic golden rats, Noodle and Pie, and her trusted friend, Digby, Jemma navigates increasingly dark forces, as helpers both seen and unseen, gather. But in the end, it is her own powers that she must bring to light, for only she has the key to defeating the evil ones and fulfilling the prophecy that will bring back the sun and restore peace in Anglavia.
I adore the cover for Neil Gaiman’s latest book, The Ocean at the end of the Lane as well as the premise!
THE OCEAN AT THE END OF THE LANE is a fable that reshapes modern fantasy: moving, terrifying and elegiac – as pure as a dream, as delicate as a butterfly’s wing, as dangerous as a knife in the dark, from storytelling genius Neil Gaiman.
It began for our narrator forty years ago when the family lodger stole their car and committed suicide in it, stirring up ancient powers best left undisturbed. Dark creatures from beyond the world are on the loose, and it will take everything our narrator has just to stay alive: there is primal horror here, and menace unleashed – within his family and from the forces that have gathered to destroy it.
His only defense is three women, on a farm at the end of the lane. The youngest of them claims that her duckpond is an ocean. The oldest can remember the Big Bang.
So what do you think of any of the stories I highlighted this week? Any of the excerpts or books catch your fancy?
Ohhh I like the look of that first pnr book
Dark Wolf, I’ll put it on my wish list!
I just wish that Anne Bishop would write more in the Dark Jewels realm, I so love those books. But of course I will try this new series. I also tried Sebastian, and it was just too scary and strange for me. I hope this one will be different.
