Today Kieran Kramer is taking over Book Lovers Inc and she prepared something for you that we highly appreciate here: a LIST. We believe nothing works without those and what better funnier way to see how much you are into a genre than reading a list and checking if the points fit your bill. Top Ten Countdown List: Signs You’re an Avid Regency Romance Reader
10) You say things like, “Don’t be such a watering pot,” in everyday conversation.
9) Whenever you meet a family of five girls, you literally gasp and then ask them if they’ve been to Netherfield yet.
8) You confess to your friends that you have the occasional yen to drink weak lemonade and stale cakes and stand about in insipid company.
7) On other nights, you want to dampen your dress, throw open your windows, turn on every light in your house, empty the rooms of furniture, and text everyone to come over for a demmed fine rout.
6) You have a collection of fans you actually use.
5) At family gatherings, you always want to play charades and make a rum punch.
4) You’re immediately attracted to men with English accents and double-barreled last names.
3) You can tell everyone the difference between a dunderhead, a rake, a boor, and a Corinthian.
2) You tell your fiancé you want to waltz with him under a chandelier blazing with hundreds of wax tapers at your wedding—preferably in London in a ballroom at a mansion on Grosvenor Square.
1) You can discuss the British campaign at Waterloo with brilliant historians while you’re playing the pianoforte. Afterward, you’re able to deftly pour everyone a cup of tea, spilling not a single drop, and smoothly switch the subject to the latest on dits.

Great post Kieran! I have to admit #4 has me written all over it. I do have a weakness for posh English accents LOL.
I used to have the habit of carrying a book bag everywhere filled with 2 or 3 books. Now that I have an eReader I can carry 100s of books without giving my book addiction away!

What a great post! While I haven't yet found myself doing any of the above things I have given away to others the fact that I read a lot of historical fiction. I'll use a word or phrase that will get me strange looks. Tell others about the way things were in Regency England, etc. Now my friends just think I'm a little eccentric.

Yes while I do not find myself doing many of those listed things I do find myself taking tea at a tea shop once a month since reading about high tea and I carry a bag that has a book cover silk screened on it with me everywhere.

Men with English accents… oh my! I have to whip out my fan to cool myself down.
I just finished When Harry Met Molly and LOVED IT! I would be thrilled to win Dukes to The Left of Me, Princes to The Right.
Now I will have to look up Corinthian, because I do not think you mean a nightmare creature with sharp teeth instead of eyes, like in Neil Gaiman's Sandman series.
My signs that I'm a book addict is having stacks upon stacks of Romances surrounding me, over stuffed bookshelfs and leaning towers of TBR books. I also rush to check the mail daily in hopes that I'm getting a book that I have ordered or won! I also tend to ignore my family on some occasions especially if there is a steamy part of a book I'm reading. Sometimes they can tell its good book by me staying up till the wee hours at night! I would love to win either of these books that would be awesome!

The way people know I read books is as they mention titles I am always saying, yep read that. I would love to win both books so I can say, yep, read that to those titles!
I'm loving your comments!! Yes, being a book lover, esp. a lover of romance, makes you a very special person. We have our own unique habits that non-readers don't "get." I say, keep reading…it's one of the greatest joys in life!!!
What used to give me a way is me trying to recommend books to any one and everyone that I thought loved to read too, also if I am going anywhere I carry a book with me- vacation I pack a least 10. Now lately each time the mail man shows up with a package gives it away. You should see what the looks I get from my son- his comment again mom lol.

Love this post. Number 4 just screams my name. I think what gives me away is that fact that I constantly have a book on me. I will only use purses that I can put books inside of. I am obsessed. I talk about England as if I have first hand knowledge of what happens there. I also tend to teach my boyfriend words I pick up like rakehell, ton, and spinsters. I have also caught myself saying bloody quite a bit more since I started reading historicals.

I do say things like watering pot and flibbertigibbet.
I don't like lemonade, but that wont stop me from going to Almacks should you ask.
I have played charades at gatherings.
I adore British accents *swoon*.
I do know the difference between a lack-witted man and a womanizer.
I would like to waltz in a ballroom.
And whenever someone mentions a war in the year 1812 I automatically think of Peninsular rather than American.
The other habit I've picked up is the 'swearing', such as "Blast" and "Blazes".

Great list! I don't think I do anything on the list except the waltzing although the last time I waltzed in public with my boyfriend, it was during the ending credits of "Howl's Moving Castle" (which is a really good book by Diana Wynne Jones).
I also use old exclamations like "egad", "by Jove", "yowza", "criminy", and once to my 9-year-old niece, "what in blazes are you doing?" I almost said "forsooth" once but I stopped myself. There's no point in my sounding like a contemporary of Bertie Wooster's.

Oh a kindred spirit. People at work think I'm mad because I own up to wanting to dress as a regency lady (OK, so perhaps that's not completely normal) but I do catch myself thinking things like 'That's not gentlmanly behaviour' when competing for a parking space.

A habit that gives away my love of books? Could it be the ever present Kindle that's always in my hand, sitting next to me, or in my purse? Thank god for my iphone/Kindle app – it's made it possible to actually walk out of my house without my Kindle occasionally.

What mainly gives it away is when I'm comparing prices between two products and there's a few euros difference because I always say "That's a book. I could buy one with that money."
