Book Blurb:
In a galaxy torn apart by war…
Mara Skiren is a scavenger, a black-market dealer. Blackmailed into helping Commander Kell Frayne infiltrate a treacherous corner of the galaxy, Mara learns that her biggest danger is from her sexy, by-the-book partner. She’s a loner with more than a few battle scars on her heart, but something about Commander Frayne stirs up her long-buried need for an intimate connection.
An ace pilot for the elite Black Wraith Squadron, Kell’s mission is to rescue a lost pilot and ship. Unable to deny his attraction to the beautiful, rebellious Mara, he decides bedding her would cool his ardor. But one taste is not nearly enough, and he finds himself sharing more of his real self with her than he has with anyone.
With deadly criminals on their heels and an increasingly dangerous assignment to complete, he’s starting to wonder…if they survived, could he let her go? And will Mara want to stay?
My Thoughts:
Collision Course is a Sci-fi Romance just like I love them. I’ve read a few books by Zoe Archer and I really enjoyed her writing style, so when I learned about Collision Course I was ecstatic! This author delivers once again.
Mara is a very independent woman. She is a scavenger and for her ‘home’ is her very own spaceship. She is very proud of her achievements and she’s not really happy when she is told she has to help Commander Kell Frayne to find a stolen ship and it’s pilot. Mara doesn’t have much choices, she’s being blackmailed, she has to agree to help or they’ll make her life hell (understatement of the year).
Kell is a commander with the 8th Wing, he would do anything to save both the ship and the pilot from getting into the hands of the enemy. His colleague has been kidnapped and he’s pretty sure her kidnappers will try to sell her and the ship to their enemy, the Praxis alliance. Right now all they know is that the ship and pilot will be auctioned to the highest bidder. Mara is the only one who can get them through the Smoke Quadrant, a dangerous place scavengers call home and it’s the place to go to learn more about this stolen ship.
Kell and Mara are forced to work together, well they even are forced to live together in Mara’s small ship. The chemistry between those two is sizzling from the start. They are so different, he’s ‘the law’, she’s a scavenger. I really enjoyed seeing Mara tempt him and flirt with him. They try to resist the temptation but they are attracted to each other. The first night they spend in the ship was funny, sexy and frustrating, so you can imagine that I loved it. Kell is very sexy and intense. Some scenes were very very hot, I have in mind a scene after a tough landing. NOM nom nom. I really enjoyed seeing those 2 stubborn people work it out. This book is filled with humor and sarcasm, and I just love that.
We slowly learn more about them and how they came to be who they are today. Both of them suffered in the past and they start seeing themselves in the each others. The story is well paced and interesting from start to end. There’s a lot of action too. The sci-fi aspect never was too overwhelming
(what I’m always afraid of when I start a Sci-fi book).
Collision Course is a fast read, full of action, humor and very steamy scenes. I know I’m often picky with endings but I was happy with the way it ended. It’s altogether a very satisfying book.
I give Collision Course 4 Bookies

I have to confess to not reading many sci-fi romances – because until recently I didn't even know the genre existed! Now I think I try some out and this sounds like a great introduction to the arena – thanks! 🙂
@Mel You know what? I didn't either until pretty recently. I think I only read 2 Sci-fi romance so far. Ok maybe 3 if I count the Ann Aguirre Jax series. It is a fun genre and the sci-fi dimension is making the romance all 'exotic'. =)
So the SF aspect wasn't too overwhelming….but was there enough of it to tempt a strict SF reader? Or was the SF just the set dressing of a standard romance read?
@draconismoi THIS…is a tough question! lol Since I don't usually read Sci-fi without romance…I really can't say! hummm I'd say it's a mix of both. (maybe i'll have a better answer when I'm completely awake lol)
Hmmm, I'm not reading so much SF books too. Just read Pendragon Legacy by Susan Kearney (the 1st book Lucan was my favorite), Angela Knight (make me confused) and Gini Koch (I love Martini *lol*)
Thanks for the review pattepouile! I enjoy Zoe Archer's Blades of The Rose, and this one in my wishlist:)
Can I say, the hottie in that cover is Nom Nom too? 😛
@Ren Teehee yes he's NOM NOM! *g* I will check out the Susan Kearney book! And I did read the first book by Gini Koch.
If you enjoyed Zoe's writing with the Blades of the Rose series I think you'll enjoy this one too.*g*
Now I can't wait for her new Hellraiser series coming out at the end of the year =)
Dangit, I NEED to hop on the Zoe Archer train! I keep hearing such great things about her genre books…and really don't know what's been taking me so long.
Thank you for the review! This goes on the TBR list right now. ^_^
@Alisha Woot! You're in for a lot of sexy fun *g* Zoe Archer is real Chameleon author, be it historical adventure romance or sci-fi she makes them all work!
