Hex Appeal (Anthology), edited by P.N. Elrod
Fall under the intoxicating spell of their hex appeal…
In the magical world that lies hidden beneath our own, witches and conjurers play deadly games. They know just the right spell to kill a man with one kiss—or raise him back again. And they’re not afraid to exact sweet revenge on those who dare to cross them. But what if you’re the unlucky soul who falls victim to a conjurer’s curse? And if you had the power to cast a magic spell of your own, would you use it?
In this bewitching collection, nine of today’s hottest paranormal authors tell all-new, otherworldly tales. Spellbinding stories featuring bigfoot, albino vampires, professional wizards, resurrected boyfriends and even a sex droid from the twenty- third century named Silicon Lily. But as our conjurers are about to discover, it’s all fun and games until someone gets hexed. And sometimes, even the best spun spells can lead to complete and utter mayhem.

Welp, it’s that time, ladies and gents. Another year, another Anita Blake novel. ^_^ Love it or hate it, the series is still going, with book 21 coming out today. But other than that and MaryJanice Davidson’s latest, most of the new release titles are from relatively newer series with fewer titles. There’s a whole host of young adult urban fantasy–yet for all our sakes, I kept this list short and thus free of many of the YA titles. ^_^ Simon R. Green’s lated Eddie Drood book looks like lots of fun (if you’ve read the five books prior), while Slow Summer Kisses is a quick and easy-breezy read for those in-between times.
Personally, I found Fascinated by Marissa Day to quite an apt title: I was as fascinated with the book description as the book’s cover was brazen. ^_^ Wallflower in Bloom looks like some good, breezy fun. I was surprised to be interested in both, because they aren’t in my usual “go to” zone for an automatic TBR add (the former seems to be historical romantica, and the latter sounds like it has women’s fiction flavorings). But hey. Sometimes book tastes go through seemingly random blips here and there.
Anything on the above list (or NOT on it) been on your own list for some time? Do you have a “go to” genre or trope that you find yourself coming back to?
I have a confession to make. I totally read Dragon Bound by Thea Harrison….and I did not delete it upon finishing because I did not hate it. Mostly due to the dragons. It’s ALL ABOUT THE DRAGONS! I tried to read the sequel, but the utter lack of dragons was a problem. I didn’t finish it. (Though I can guess how it went: tragic misunderstanding, make-up sex, near death experience, rage sex and a happy ending.)
The formula is so prosaic without the dragons. Does the new one have dragons?
Need to get on with the Thea Harrison books. Haven’t read them yet, though dragons = yes.
I *think* this latest installment is about vampires. Not positive, but the book description suggests such.
I pre-ordered Hex Appeal for the Ilona Andrews story (and it looks as if they may have misspelled her/their name on the cover!).
I just ordered Dead Reckoning (despite the cost–eek) because I couldn’t resist the zombies. Thanks. . . I think.
A number of others went on the wish list to think about. (BTW, was this Penguin week?)
I don’t have a go to genre/trope; my book gluttony knows no bounds! 🙂
Ooooh. Great catch. ::cover switcheroo:: I wonder how that little nugget got by…
Penguin week, it certainly seemed so! And that’s not even to speak of the YA titles that came out. Those folks are working hard, or something.
Yayy! It’s nice to hear that you’re widely read. Sometimes, I wonder how someone can manage to read the same. books. all. the. time. More power to them, but surely it must get redundant after a while? Hm.
Whew–I just checked Amazon, and their pic of the Hex Appeal cover shows the correct spelling of “Ilona.” Luckily, someone must have caught this before it was too late. That would have been embarrassing!
The spine of my World Book Night copy of Kindred says it is by “Octavia Butner.” All other promotional materials have the author’s correctly spelled name. But not the spine of the free book designed to promote adult literacy.
Bwahahah!! ^____^ Wow. Just…..wow. lol
What? I missed the release of Dead Reckoning and Vengeance Moon?
Egh… I’ve not been paying attention. Will have to order those asap.
Yay! enjoy!
I’d be interested in finding out whether Dead Reckoning is YA. I’ve seen it so weirdly classified on Goodreads that I’m a bit confused.
Also, how was the first Earth Witches book?
