The Crazy Lover: First of all, We’d like welcome you to Book Lovers Inc.!

Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Leslie Dicken: I’m a wife and mother of three kids. A teenager and twins. I live in Maryland, the DC suburbs. I still work a full-time job. That’s the boring stuff. 😛

The Crazy Lover: What’s your favorite book at the moment?

Leslie Dicken: The most recent books I read were Tessa Dare’s first series. They were awesome. I have so many books on my shelf I still need to get to!

The Crazy Lover: What do you think is the difference between a reader and a real Book Lover?

Leslie Dicken: A “reader” will read when they are told to (for school, for instance) or because they need something to do while on a long plane ride. …

Guest Post: Author Sara Brookes +Giveaway

We are really happy to have Author Sara Brookes here again. This week her new book Midnight’s Ghost, book 1 in the Starr Runner Series was released and she is here today to talk a bit about women and Science Fiction. Please give her a warm welcome. And don’t forget to check out her giveaway at the end of the post. Women don’t like science fiction.

Right off the bat, I have to say that sentence above is a lie. However, a vast majority of people will try to tell you otherwise. See, at some point in time, someone drew a conclusion that women don’t like science, math, astronomy, comic books, etc. Those things were considered innately “dorky” and something women wouldn’t be drawn to. I suppose their logic was women were the caretakers and therefore too prim and proper?

Review: Rise of Renegade X by Chelsea Campbell

Format Read: HardcoverNumber of Pages: 352 pagesRelease Date: May 11, 2010 Publisher: Egmont USA Formats Available: HardcoverPurchasing Info: amazon.com

Book Blurb: Damien Locke knows his destiny–attending the university for supervillains and becoming Golden City’s next professional evil genius. But when Damien discovers he’s the product of his supervillain mother’s one-night stand with–of all people–a superhero, his best-laid plans are ruined as he’s forced to live with his superhero family.

Going to extreme lengths (and heights), The Rise of Renegade X chronicles one boy’s struggles with the villainous and heroic pitfalls of growing up.

My thoughts::

Damien (aka Renegade X) is not just some punk with a cocky attitude who wants to be a villain, he’s real and likable and although he may not want to admit it, he has a conscience. I loved the way Chelsea captured Damien’s inner struggles and included …

Book Blurb:

Ahleme, a young woman living on the outskirts of Paris, is trying to make a life out of the dreams she brought with her from Algeria and the reality she faces every day. Her father lost his job after an accident at his construction site. Her mother was lost to a massacre in Algeria. And her brother, Foued, boils with adolescent energy and teeters dangerously close to choosing a life of crime.

As she wanders the streets of Paris looking for work, Ahleme negotiates the disparities between her dreams and her life, her youth and her responsibilities, the expectations of those back home and the limitations of life in France.
