Romance and Me: What’s your favourite HR time period?

Hey Everyone!

Welcome back to #2 of our Historical Romance sessions. Today we’ll discuss time periods. One of the best things about historical romance stories is that they come in all shapes and sizes i.e. set in so many different time periods. There are some set in Ancient Egypt (like Priestess of the Nile), Greece or Rome, Medieval times (all those delicious Highlander heroes *dreamy sighs*), then there are the many set in Regency/Victorian/Edwardian England with those dashing dukes and rogues, and sure there are the more modern ones set during World War I or II or later, just to name a few.

I love them all without any discrimination. I never discard a HR story based solely on the time period it is set in. I can’t pick one favourite time period I love above all the others, but there are certainly …

Appearing to her as a man, he learns she is Merys, a descendant of his last priestess. Though filled with lust, Sobek believes Merys deserves to be more than just his mistress. Veronica: I grew up in a house full of science fiction, history, and other books, and when I ran out of things to read, I inevitably started writing my own stories. I got married at 19 to my high school sweetheart, was then widowed quite young, now have two grown daughters, a very energetic 9 year old grandson and cats. I’m always …

The Very Snowy Winner Post

Hey Everyone!

I don’t know what’s the weather like in your part of the world but this past week it has been fricking icy cold here. I’m not talking I-need-to-put-on-gloves cold, but my-fingers-are-frozen-and-I-cant-feel-them-even-in-gloves-after-five-minutes kind of Arctic cold! And as I don’t live in Canada I’m not used to these freezing degrees, especially not during  the day (-15 Celsius or even less)! Brr… But today it snowed! And not just some fluffy snow flakes, nope. It snowed and snowed all day, the whole neighbourhood and city is covered in a white fluffy blanket and as I don’t have to get out in the city (the peaks of being in isolation on study leave) I don’t mind that much. Sure I spent most of yesterday’s afternoon shovelling snow so we could get to our mailbox, but in a way it was so peaceful to see all this undisturbed and soft whiteness. If it keeps …

Chef Brylie Winston has made some mistakes in her life, but she didn’t think she’d repeat one. She didn’t realize the man whose bed she left this morning after a rare impulsive night of passion was her boss. Worse, he owns the cruise ship where she works, and of course, he’s on board for their trip to Antarctica. And instead of being pissed that she snuck out on him, he seems determined to have a repeat performance.

Marcus Devlin knew his family would make good on their threat to send him to the ends of the earth some day. He didn’t think it would be quite so literal, sticking him on a cruise ship to Antarctica, after his latest scandal. Time for him to learn the …

The Lounging Winner Post

Hey Everyone!

How is your weekend so far? Mine was busy with family events and lots of eating. Yesterday I visited both sets of grandparents, and as is their custom they just fed and fed me. I ate so much I was still completely full this morning, so no need for breakfast or early lunch lol.

Other than that it finally looks like a relaxing weekend with lying on the couch, reading and watching Castle (finally got around to discover this series and I am hooked!). So it’s a relaxing, lounging Sunday for me, oh and I almost forgot I’ll also have to bake a capuccino cheesecake in the afternoon for my mom :-)D

So what are your plans for today? Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about today’s lucky winners, here they are!

Today congratulations are in order for…

the lucky winner of an ebook copy of Supernaturally …

“We have ways of making you talk.”

Who now has Isaiah’s files?

Someone in the government knows about Ganzfield… and he has special reasons to target Maddie…

My Thoughts: I am a fan of Kate Kaynak’s Ganzfield series, I loved Minder and Adversary, but the 3rd book Legacy left me disappointed. I expected more, I expected that thrill and elation the first 2 books made me feel and Legacy left me lukewarm. So I started Accused, the 4th book in the series with a bit of trepidation: I wanted it to be just as awesome as the first two books were but feared to be left down. Thankfully my …

Romance and Me: Do you like the Historical Romance Sub-genre?

Hey Everyone!

When creating this bi-weekly feature we brainstormed that it would be a good opportunity to highlight and discuss the various romance subgenres as there are so many. Well the time has finally come to start our venture into Romance Sub-genres 101.

As Jackie needs her blackboard for her Elements of Lit 201 class, why not make this a more relaxed event and take a comfortable seat around the coffee table, you can choose from the sofa, armchairs, the plush carpet or even bean bags and let us begin!

Our first sub-genre to explore will be historical romance. As it is such a vast genre and we can discuss so many related topics it will be the subject of our discussions for a few weeks.

So to warm up the session,  as I knew that our little Book Lovers team was quite heterogeneous on the subject …
