As her roles evolve from supporting to starring, the scope of her life broadens as well. Soon Ellen is dressed in the finest fashions, charming the theatrical, literary, and royal luminaries of Restoration England. Romance and Me: Unconventional Heroes and Heroines

Hey Everyone!

I have been pondering this matter for a while now and decided to make a post to get your opinion on the issue.Namely, that in most romance novels (in about 99.9% of them) the hero and heroine are always extremely attractive. The hero is tall, muscular, with lush hair, strong facial features and an overall pleasant physique, while the heroine is usually willowy and beautiful.

We never encounter a hero who is bald or has pot-belly. Or one who is short and puny. Sure, there are the regency heroes who sometimes have scars, but these are usually described as adding some charm to their roguish features and if it wasn’t for the scar they would be too perfect and called beautiful, so the scar only helps to make them manly.

And as far as the heroines go, we never find one who is overweight, or who looks masculine or whose hair …

And the winners this week are…

Hey Everyone!

After a horribly busy week (stressful days at work and getting home only well after 9pm each night) and disgusting icy windy, gray and rainy November weather I really anticipated the weekend, and it is wonderful! The sun is brilliantly shining, finally it is getting warmer and the garden is full of flowers blossoming, seems spring has finally come! Yay!

My little sister is also home, so I made the most of our time together and had lots of programs with her 🙂 Yesterday we went to the theatre and saw the musical “Cabaret”, it was done fantastically! We had a blast 😀

I hope your weekend is just as good as mine and you are finally getting some rest after the stressful week 🙂So let’s get down to business: congratulations to today’s winners, who are …

Interview with Author Kelley Armstrong

Today we are extremely happy to welcome Kelley Armstrong to Book Lovers Inc!

Those who are new to the urban fantasy genre could not ask for a better introduction to the genre than Kelley’s Women of the Otherworld series! It is fast paced, full of lush worldbuilding details, three dimensional characters and lots and lots of humour. If I had to choose only one urban fantasy series I could take on a desert island, it is no secret the Women of the Otherworld series would be the one in my bag (and of course the fact that there is more than 12 novels in it isn’t irrelevant either ;-p lol). But to those who are seasoned UF fans I’m sure Kelley needs no introduction. Pick up one of her novels, and let the book speak for itself. Anyway, please …

Sunny Sunday Full of Winners!

Hey Everyone!

Yesterday I finally forced myself to go out shopping (as you can tell I’m not ecstatic about spending hours in crampy shops, trying on clothes for hours, I find the whole experience so exhausting), but I really needed some spring additions to my wardrobe. Thankfully it was a success: I got a beautiful beige trenchcoat for 1/3 of the price and also bought a cherry red elegant shorter trench for only 15 dollars! Seems it was my lucky day, the universe thought that if I was willing to sacrifice a Saturday of reading for strolling around shops, at least I had to find some bargains, and I did, so thank you Universe! 🙂

So today all I planned to do was get some rest and recover from yesterday’s exhaustions and I just saw that this weekend was the 24 hour …

The Write Factor

Breaking News: The Around the Bookish World News Week-in-Review post has been postponed to tomorrow (Saturday) due to some spontaneous happenings on Twitter (ie. hence the topic of this post).

Yesterday morning a post about grammar errors and typos diminishing the experience of reading had Twitter aflutter. This post made us think about whether ARCs are a different species than finished books, or whether they should be treated the same.

For those of you who don’t know what ARCs are, they are Advance Reader Copies, which are review copies printed from galleys/proofs during the copy edit stage, meaning that both the author and the editor are still going through some proofreading and last minute changes/polishing. Meaning that ARCs are far from being finalised and that is why each and every ARC has two notes/warnings on the cover:
1) that the book we are about …

Romance and Me: Romance Novels Are Truly Modern Fairy Tales?

Hey Everyone!

Welcome back to another Romance and Me post! 🙂 Before diving in today’s topic I would like to thank you all for sharing with me your story, I loved to read how you discovered the romance genre and who or which book was your introduction to it 🙂

Now today I would like to speak to you about something I believe all of us romantic ones love deep in our hearts. What you ask? Well sure it can be the much anticipated HEA (=happily ever after ending), the emotional love declaration scene, the irresistible and kindhearted hero, but in my opinion it all boils down to one thing:

FAIRY TALES!

When you think about it it’s obvious: fairy tales were our introduction to romance and love (didn’t you just love listening to bedtime stories about princesses and knights in shining armour? or watching those wonderful Disney movies?). I have read somewhere …
