Yesterday, Susi and I took to the Twitter highways to ask several authors (most YA) a question…
If someone wrote a biography about you, what do you think the title should be?
And here’s what they had to say…
“A Tale of Two Series”
– Cassandra Clare – Author of Clockwork Angel
“The Insomnia Solution”
– Cyn Balog – Author of Sleepless
“Shake It Up!”
– Denise Jaden – Author of Losing Faith
“SPARKLE HARD AND HOPE FOR THE BEST?”
– Susan Adrian – Young Adult Author
“Nasty, Brutish and Short”
– Brendan Halpin – Author of Shutout
“Seriously?”
– Monica Burns, Author of Assasin’s Heart
“Don’t Put That In Your Mouth, You Don’t Know Where It’s Been.” – The Saundra Mitchell Story”
– Saundra Mitchell – Author of Shadowed Summer
“Life is Short and So Am I: Wisdom from the Underside of Five-Feet Nothing OR High Heels and Handtrucks: My Life Among the Books”
– Lauren Baratz-Logsted – Author of The Education of Bet
“And They Let You Write For Children?”
– William Kostakis – Author of Loathing Lola

Hey everyone! It’s YA time again. This week I will tell you my Top 3 favorite YA series of all time… toughy, but also easy in a way. I will count this one down so that we can save the best for last ;P.
3rd Place: A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket.
Whoever has read the entire series of unfortunate events (against the author’s repeated warnings) either ended up very sad, very content, or very confused. Based around the adventures of Violet, Klaus and Sunny in their constant struggle to defeat Count Olaf an evil man after their fortune. When I was a kid I actually looked up to see if the Baudelairs were real…that’s how much I loved them. But I never figured out what the question mark on the radar was …
We are really happy to have debut author Lauren Hammond here today. Her first novel Love Sucks was released on August 3rd and she is here today to talk about choices and opportunities. Please give her a warm welcome.
We are constantly offered so many choices in our everyday lives. We have opportunities to decide what we want out of life. But what if you weren’t given a choice? What if the life you are leading was chosen for you?
That’s what happened to Cara Jones in Love Sucks. Cara never chose to be a vampire. That life was chosen for her.
When I began writing this novel, the first mental image I ever got of Cara Jones was her punching her fist through the lid of her coffin and the rest is history. I tried to put myself in …
Before I talk about this weeks topic we have a winner to proclaim. The winner of Birthmarked by Caragh M. O’Brian is….

When I think of my favourite couples in YA, it’s not because of their hotness, kick-ass status or sheer awesomeness. The perfect couple in YA is a mature one, and one that betters both parties. One sidedness in anything doesn’t work for me, and lack of growth or change doesn’t work either.
Which is why I have picked the following couples, they went in either broken or lost and came out whole with a partner that not only complimented them, but helped them to become a better person.
Alex and Brittany – Perfect Chemistry
A perfect example, and …

Now I will be honest with you, I never really pictured myself as a YA reader, sure, I read Twilight a couple of years ago and it was ok with its whole high school love thing, but it was a little too teenagery for my tastes.
I was put off not only by YA but by reading after that, not Twilight but The Host (which isn’t YA, I know), I hadn’t picked up a book in 10 months and I was going through a pretty rough patch life wise until one relatively normal day, I was on a holiday in north Queensland for a few weeks and I walked into their smaller of only two newsagencies. This newsagency was a reseller for Angus and Robertson (Australia’s version of Barnes and Noble) and there on the shelf was a set of three …

Fathers. We all tend to have one. Some have more. For me, one has always been the perfect number (I cannot imagine more than one if that more is anything like my father!). 😉 My father is one of those larger-than-life characters. He’s a tale-teller (so blame him for my love of stories).
In my debut …
As I sit on the train everyday going to and from work, I have a unique opportunity…I witness a diverse crowd of people reading a wide range of books. Last year, it was fun to see the guys reading a book from the Twilight series (guess what, we can tell even with the dust jackets off LOL) and years ago it was the Harry Potter series…the “true adult book lovers”, to me, stuck with the original covers, not the fancy schmancy grown up ones!
So what is it about YA that captures an audience that is YA and, well, older? Off the top of my head, here’s my list of things:
Character Development ~ So much growth takes places over the teen years. At high school, you meet so many new friends & are exposed to new things, both good & bad (though I missed …
All this nice weather has me thinking about the amazing books out this summer. Here is my 9 BOOKS I CAN’T WAIT FOR list.
This was tough, my want list is of course much larger but then you’d be here all day. I’ve narrowed it down to 3 a month for June, July & August. All book info courtesy of Goodreads.com
