Random House has annouced it has a reached an agreement with the Wylie Agency after they had stated they was going to offer their client’s books directly to Amazon. Random House will instead be distributing the books under their own name – whether this agreement has a higher royalty rate remains to be seen but it looks like it is very likely and this might lead to similar deals with other authors and publishers.

A New Jersey library removes all copies of Revolutionary Voices: A Multicultural Queer Youth Anthology. Despite the fact there was no good reason why this happened the the library director used child porn as an excuse. The ACLU have found out that a rightwing conservative group contacted the Library director to remove all copies even though there was no formal challenge was filed to the library. The matter is now being investigated by the ACLU.

A followup to my last post the other week about rumours that Janet Evanovich was leaving St Martin. It was just announced that she has signed up to a 2 year deal with Random House – for two Stephanie Plum books and for two of her new spinoff series which features Diesel from the inbetween books.
Leeanna Renee Hieber announced the title for her third novel in her Strangely Beautiful Series: The Perilous Phrophecy of Guard and Goddess will be released in Spring 2011.

Amazon has announced that Kindle books are outselling Hardbacks this week and it is another sign that ebooks are taking on with consumers.
Amazon has also announced an exclusive deal to publish 20 ebooks from the Wylie agency and its the first of its kind deal.

This week there has been some really interesting developments in the world of ebooks and the following tidbits seem to highlight that things are really hotting up.
According to Hachette they have recently reported that James Patterson has sold over 1 million ebooks and is the first author to sell to break this barrier. It is another sign of that ebooks will be a growing medium that even other authors who have dismissed this may now have to take a serious look in e-publishing.
Sony has discounted their ereaders to match the price war with Kindle and the Nook. The Sony Pocket is now priced $150, while The Touch, $170 and the Daily Edition $300.
However there is rumours that both Amazon and B&N as well as Sony have newer models coming out soon along with other ereaders that will be released …
