Interview Author Bronwen Evans + Giveaway

We are very happy to welcome Regency Romance author Bronwen Evans here at Book Lovers Inc today. Her debut novel Invitation to Ruin was released this week and she is here to tell us a bit about her love for Regency and what her books are all about. She will also come over and answer any questions you might have and she got a prize in tow. Please give Bron a warm welcome.

BLI: Bronwen can you please tell us a bit about yourself?

Bronwen: I’m a born and breed Kiwi (New Zealander) who cannot live without a book being in her hand. In particular romance books. I live in Wellington, New Zealand and I have four sisters, one is my twin! We used to have a lot of fun at school with confusing teachers and boyfriends – not so much …

Bookish Rants or Raves: Getting Stuck On Your Own Ways!

Hey Everyone! I realized something really annoying recently, I am having a really hard time starting new book or series. I have come to notice that when it comes to the series I already love, I can get right into the newest book and I usually can’t wait for it.

However, when it comes to a new series, even if it’s by an author I already really enjoy, I’m having a hard time feeling the right mood to start it =/. I realized this more recently when a lot of authors I love, started releasing new series that sound awesome and even though I have been buying those books, I can’t seem to be inclined to reading them =(

I’m starting to think I’m stuck in my ways, that I can’t …

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf by Molly Harper

Northern ExposureEven in Grundy, Alaska, it’s unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo’s ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble.

For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it’s love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he’s worried that he …

Explore This! Meiringen, Switzerland

Today, our world tour takes us to Meiringen, Switzerland. I must admit, before looking into this area, I had never even heard of Meiringen!

When I think Switzerland,  I think Geneva, mountains, skiing and just a general sense of peace. What I’ve never associated with it though is Sherlock Holmes! But, it is the famous detective that has brought me to this scenic destination, which, of course, I had to share with you.

Meiringen is the home of an apparently fantastic Sherlock Holmes museum, complete with items from Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s own study and a re-enacted set up of Holmes’ environ (this is according to Graham Moore, author of The Sherlockian.)

A statue of Holmes, truly a larger than life figure in popular fiction for over a …

Around the Bookish World: News Week-in-Review

After last week’s epic news post and the authors gone HULK, things have been quite subdued this week, with some depressing and sad news of bankruptancy and deaths.

The biggest announcement has to be Borders filing for Chapter 11 insolvency and will be entering administration. Sadly 200 of their 600 megastores will be closing and around 6000 employees will face redundancies. This will also affect publishers which Borderes owes millions of dollars of debt and in turn as this article highlights will affect authors, because the majority of books being sold are via stores like Borders.

Another struggling mega store chain owner REDgroup is also facing bankruptancy, but this time its in Australia. Ironically enough they also own the Australian arm of Borders as well as, Angus and Robertson and Whitcoulls in New Zealand. This shows that traditional brick …

Now you might call me lazy but seriously to me no one does angsty contemporary romances like the one and only Susan Elizabeth Phillips.

First up is the one that hooked me the world of SEP. And ever since then I have become a huge SEP fan for life. I want to say that yes, I have both the hardcover and paperback but …

Genres 101: Today’s Lesson "Fantasy"

Thanks to the inimitable pattepoilue, our new feature has a better name: Genres 101. I hope everyone is seated comfortably, with pencil and paper ready, as we begin the first in our series of lectures (ok, I might be stretching that a bit but just go with me, k?) on the definitions and applications of genre names.

The main common denominator in all of these seemingly similar, imaginative, genres is that they all fall under the “Speculative Fiction” label. I mentioned before, that for Spec Fic, I always think of the question “What if?” as the determining factor in placing a book in this category. But there are so many answers to that question, that we must break it down separately. Today’s lesson will cover all (most?) things under the realm of “Fantasy.”

For me, I’ve always linked Fantasy and Science …

Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting

The missing dead call to Violet. They want to be found.
