Deadlock by Moira Rogers
Carmen Mendoza’s shapeshifter father abandoned her. Raised by her psychic mother, Carmen ignored her paternal family’s political machinations–until the day they decided to use her in their bid for power. Trapped between two worlds and snared by a vicious spell meant to wake her inner wolf, Carmen’s only hope is to trust the one man strong enough to soothe her darkest instincts.
Born a pureblood wolf, Alec Jacobson lives as a rebel, the black sheep alpha who protects the supernatural residents of New Orleans from wolf politics. Too bad he can’t protect himself from his need for Carmen. Staking a claim on his enemy’s niece will turn his city into a battleground, unless he can find a way to stop breaking the rules–and start making them.

Do I love SF? HAH! The only reason I even started reading fantasy was because the library shelved it with the SF. I am a SF junkie.
I (typically) started with Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern series back in elementary school. But now my tastes have matured (which basically means the covers of the books I am reading now involve fewer chicks straddling the back of a dragon).
Doris Egan’s Gate of Ivory trilogy is spectacular. As is all of Sheri Tepper’s earlier works (not too crazy about her current novel).
I’ve just recently discovered Adam Troy Castro – a lawyer in space. What’s not to love?
If you go more for the lyrical writing styles, and are …

Nerd. Brainiac. Poindexter. Geek. We’ve all heard these names. Heck, many of us readers have been called those names.
I never understood why being smart is supposed to be bad, or embarrassing. Intelligence is good—it keeps us alive and aware. When it comes to brains versus beauty, I’d rather have brains (though I don’t always feel that way when …

Hunger GamesBook 1By: Suzanne Collins
Katniss is a 16-year-old girl living with her mother and younger sister in the poorest district of Panem, the remains of what used be the United States. Long ago the districts waged war on the Capitol and were defeated. As part of the surrender terms, each district agreed to send one boy and one girl to appear in an annual televised event called, “The Hunger Games.” The terrain, rules, and level of audience participation may change but one thing is constant: kill or be killed. When her sister is chosen by lottery, Katniss steps up to go in her place.

Unrepentant Blood Suckers
I’ve noticed a trend in paranormal romance that I’m not sure I enjoy; the tendency to make vampires lament their state of being. To fight their natural instinct to drink human blood because they think it’s morally wrong. Just look at Stefan from Vampire Diaries. Up until recently in the show, he refused to partake of human blood even though it made him weak and unable to protect his love interest properly. Damon, his brother, on the other hand relishes the taste and doesn’t make any bones about it. Personally, I like Damon’s …
