As a book lover and avid reader, I am quite proud to say that I have read a lot of books. I have never hid the fact that my favorite genres are Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romance and that I am an absolute sucker for anything Supernatural.
However, as with addiction there is always a downside and the one that I have found after reading so many books and following over 100 book series (and adding to that daily), are the clichés.
How many times can you read about Sexy Vampires with magnetic eyes, werewolves with possessive behaviors, kick-ass heroine, the girl next door that gets caught up in the paranormal or the half-human / half-faerie (vamp, shifter, etc)?
Don’t get me wrong, I still love to read about all of the above and now and then, a book or series comes along …
Now I will be honest with you, I never really pictured myself as a YA reader, sure, I read Twilight a couple of years ago and it was ok with its whole high school love thing, but it was a little too teenagery for my tastes.
I was put off not only by YA but by reading after that, not Twilight but The Host (which isn’t YA, I know), I hadn’t picked up a book in 10 months and I was going through a pretty rough patch life wise until one relatively normal day, I was on a holiday in north Queensland for a few weeks and I walked into their smaller of only two newsagencies. This newsagency was a reseller for Angus and Robertson (Australia’s version of Barnes and Noble) and there on the shelf was a set of three …

For this week’s virtual travel, I get to show you a bit of my own country, Canada! I recently read Tay John by Howard O’Hagan, which is the legend of a man born in the late 1800’s and of his cursory attempts to meld into society, as the Western parts of Canada were being developed and the trains were being extended to our West Coast.
I’ve personally never visited these areas before, but as you can see from the pics, there’s still a lot of wilderness here; so much that remains untouched by man. What I have for you today are images of Yellowhead Lake, which according to O’Hagan’s novel was named after Tay John’s people (Tay John was a mispronunciation of “Tete Jaune”, as he was a yellow haired native.) I’ve also included the Athabaska river, which features prominently …

This week there has been some really interesting developments in the world of ebooks and the following tidbits seem to highlight that things are really hotting up.
According to Hachette they have recently reported that James Patterson has sold over 1 million ebooks and is the first author to sell to break this barrier. It is another sign of that ebooks will be a growing medium that even other authors who have dismissed this may now have to take a serious look in e-publishing.
Sony has discounted their ereaders to match the price war with Kindle and the Nook. The Sony Pocket is now priced $150, while The Touch, $170 and the Daily Edition $300.
However there is rumours that both Amazon and B&N as well as Sony have newer models coming out soon along with other ereaders that will be released …

The HEA Lover: Linda can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
Linda: Well, I’ve been a cashier, a gas station attendant, a retail associate, a restaurant hostess, a college student, a Marketing Director for a realty company, but fulfilling my dream of being a published author blows all that away!
