We Love Your Comments Giveaway Winner & New Start

The winner of our We Love Your Comments Giveaway for April is … Sandy who commented on our post: Romance and Me: The Horror of the Episode Novels:

I’ve picked up a couple of e-books before and read them before I realized they were the first in a serial–very frustrating. I’m a fan of Beth Kery, but I haven’t read her serialized books yet. And its not so much the money to me (a little, but not a lot), but the having to wait. I will read a book in one sitting and very rarely will I be able to stop until I’m finished (good grief, I read Sherrilyn Kenyon’s ACHERON throughout the night when it first came out–it was JUST THAT GOOD). I guess I’m just impatient and have to know NOW what is going to happen–how are they going to resolve this issue, will the hero realize what a turd he’s …

Author: A.A. Aguirre
Series: (Apparatus Infernum #1)
Genre: steampunk noir
Release date: April 30, 2013 by Ace

Description:

Hy Breasil is grimmer than it used to be.

Before the Architect closed the door, there were regular crossings, and a great war decimated both humans and Ferishers. The native fae who refused to treat with the invaders faded; their bodies withered and died, stranding them as hungry, angry spirits that haunt the countryside.

That means there’s always trouble brewing in Dorstaad.

Janus Mikani and Celeste Ritsuko work for the Criminal Investigation Department, keeping citizens safe from things that go bump in the night. He’s a hardboiled cynic with an uncanny sixth sense; she’s determined to justify her promotion as the first female detective in her division. Together, they’re trying to keep a black tide from drowning the city.

But when the second body surfaces, murdered with the same type of infernal device, the entire CID …

But Allie’s determined to restore her family’s happiness, and if tying the knot with longtime family friend, Josh Brewster, is the …

Around The Bookish World: Week-In-Review

Welcome to this week’s news post! In this edition we have news on more on the Agency DOJ trial with Penguin and Apple in the US, Avon starting up a site where authors can share their romance books to readers for feedback and more news in the world of publishing!

First up, I reported a few weeks ago that Penguin would probably settle in the EU over Agency pricing however in the US – Judge Coates has denied the right of a jury trial which may affect Penguin in dropping their case and settling instead. And like the other publishers Penguin will have to offer compensation to customers who were caught up in buying their agency priced books. It is not clear if Apple will relent as well but the trial will start on June the 3rd.

Avon Romance has created a site called Share Your Book which allows readers to …

Bookish Rants and Raves:Desperately finishing a book

How desperate have you been to finish a book?

Have you been late for work? Late for school? Late for a date?

How about late for a flight?

Recently I read The Casual Vacancy by J.K Rowling. I happened to be about to finish it on a Friday, the same Friday I needed to get on a plane to New Zealand, for a wedding. I was 40 pages out from finishing. In the morning before work I knocked over 36 pages, bad luck and potential lateness (again) left me with 4 pages to go. I was already running on a favour from my boss letting me leave early, which is why I couldn’t risk being late. I didn’t take lunch that day so I couldn’t finish it at work, but I took my book anyway.

At the risk of losing my job I subtly read two more pages at my desk when I was …

But before you do that, join us as Hayson stops by to talk a bit about her novel and its connection to dream jobs… and of course you could even win a copy of Wife in Name Only! 😉
