Today, we are pleased to have Amanda Ashley stop by BLI and chat with us. Amanda has numerous books under her belt, writing under the name Amanda Ashley as well as Madeline Baker. Here she shares with us a little insight into her latest release, Desire the Night, and how it differs from other vampire novels. So, please help me give a warm welcome to this lovely author!
Stella: Hi Amanda, can you please tell us a bit about yourself?
Amanda: Well, I’m married. We have three grown sons, the greatest grandkids in the world, a dog, a wild house sparrow, and a tortoise. I love to read, go to movies and plays, and collect all things Star Wars, Phantom, and Beauty and the Beast. And I love to write, of course, but that’s a given.
Stella: Describe a typical day of writing? Are you a planner or pantser?
Amanda: Definitely the seat of my pants. …
Welcome back to our new edition of The Good, the Bad and the Are-You-Kidding-Me? This week we decided to talk about look-alike covers. We’ve all at some point stumbled upon a cover that looks very very similar to another one. Sometimes it’s only 2 covers using the same Stock photo but doing 2 different thing with it…but sometimes it’s exactly the same cover. We’ve dig up a few example (mostly Historical romances because these are the ones I remembered the most) to show our point. It seems to happen a LOT with foreign (or UK) editions. It’s also often the case with YA covers but we didn’t go there today (it’s just too vast a field). So take a look and tell us what you think…
Libertine’s Kiss by Judith James Vs Ruthless by Anne Stuart (UK/Mills and Boon)

The winner of our We Love Your Comments Giveaway for August is … Aliyah who commented on our Bookish Rants or Raves: Do Not Meddle in the Affairs of Dragons post:
Aliyah on Aug 8, 2012 @ 4:07 Okay, I see your logic with most of these books, but, I have to say that as a child I loved the Harry Potter books (and I still do as a guilty pleasure). So I have to argue that although there is abuse of dragons in this one and in the seventh book, the storytelling is great (there is no rape unlike the other books) and I advise people to read this book.
Congratulations! An email will been sent to you. Please email us back in the in the next 72 hours to claim your price.
We will now start counting for September. Here again the rules:

Welcome to this week’s news post! We have a bunch of updates about Amazon’s upcoming new Kindles, Dorchester authors find a new home as well as our book news and covers to look out for!
The big news this week is some developments with Amazon who have just finalized their deal in buying the rights of Dorchester’s authors. Around 1000 contracts were acquired and the authors have been offered backdated royalties as well as new homes in Amazon’s own publishing imprints such as Montlake Romance and Science Fiction and Fantasy to 47 North. However some authors such as Brian Keene has reported that whilst his own rights have reverted back to him, he’s seeing that that a couple of his books along with others who found new homes being listed under the old Dorchester imprint, Leisure. Whether this is a mistake or not remains to be seen but hopefully this saga …
You take your coffee with cream and sugar. But how do you take your book reviews?
Judging from the proliferation of book blogs and book collection sites like Goodreads and LibraryThing, it seems like folks love a good book review. These resources are seemingly more earnest and “pure” in their origins and aims—after all, no one pays Goodreads users to record their random book thoughts. I assume that, because such (hobby/informal) book reviewers are in it for the love of reading, the reviews are meant to express honest thoughts about one’s reading experiences, free of clever lines deliberately included for just to be blurbs for book covers.
But when one chooses to share their book opinions in a public forum, I’d also think the opinions of the review readers matter.
SO that brings me back to the original question of what characteristics you most favor (or dislike) in your book reviews. As …

How Do You Like Your….Love Scenes?
I write hot. Steamy, burn the bed [or insert alternative] down hot. They’re romances first and foremost though. For me, I really believe the love/sex scenes of a book are crucial to the developing relationship in a romance novel. Yeah, you guessed it. You won’t find any closed doors in my books LOL. It’s during these most intimate moments …
