We’ll be reviewing Robin’s novel, A Night of Southern Comfort, later in the week, but today she’s here to talk about the popularity of bodyguard/client themed stories. Remember to enter to win a copy of Robin’s novel at the end of the post too; a simple answer to the question is all it takes 🙂 Now, please help me in extending a very warm welcome to Robin!:
The Bodyguard Crush – Whitney & Kevin had it right.
One of the most popular plotlines in a romance novel is the one where the bodyguard is hired to protect a woman (or vice versa) and ends up falling for them. I think almost everyone on the planet has seen the movie, THE BODYGUARD, with Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner. The film not only made $410 million at the box office but …
Hello Book Lovers all around the world! How are you? How did you spend your weekend? Mine was busy enjoying myself at a beach and later cursing the scorching sun for making me look like a clown. And I was under an umbrella the whole time with the appropriate sunblock on… Anyway, back to books. Next week is yet another not so crowded with book releases week. Which is a good thing. I’m barely able to keep up with my TBR list. So, no new books is a good thing on my book 😛 But, even if there aren’t many scheduled releases, we somehow manage to always crave for something new.
So, here are this week’s Sunday Cravings.

Welcome to this weeks news post and we have lots of news and updates, including a class action suite against Harlequin Enterprises, adaptations based on books from Diana Gabaldon and Gail Carriger and much more!
A group of authors are embarking on a lawsuit against Harlequin Enterprises (the company behind Harlequin books and others) due to royalty payments. They state that Harlequin has underpaid them in ebook royalties which date back from 1990 to 2004. Jane from Dear Author has a great summary on the legalese and outcome of the suit.
This actually took me by surprised when the news that ebooks overtook hardback titles for the first time. I suspected it would have been a few more years to go. However, print books still outsell ebooks when it is combined with the other formats such as trade or mass market. But the growth and popularity of ebooks it seems isn’t …

You may have heard about the recent passing of author Donald J. Sobol, author of the classic children’s mystery series, Encyclopedia Brown. Though Sobol reached the ripe old age of 87 before he died (of natural causes), his passing brings a wave of wistfulness and sentimentality, particularly when one realizes that there will be no more new work released (his last Encyclopedia Brown book will be released this October by Penguin). It’s the end of an era, for many.
For my part, Encyclopedia Brown books were some of my absolute favorites, providing endless entertainment and numerous challenges. What hooked me (and countless children since the 1960s) was the high level of engagement asked of readers, as well as the relatable childhood interactions depicted in each tale. Also, the mysteries presented in the books were challenging yet not impossible, and they always encouraged readers to employ lateral thinking when problem solving. …

THE CHALLENGES OF WRITING A SERIES
I’ve never done things the easy way. Just ask my mother. I guess that’s one of the reasons it took me 22 years to become a published author. I started out writing a regency romance that took several years—only to discover …
After just finishing A Night of Southern Comfort by Robin Covington, I must admit my geographical confusion was at its peak. Why? you might ask. Well, throughout the story, the male lead, Jackson, kept talking about his desire to return to the FBI in Washington. But the way things were discussed, it sounded not all that far off from Virginia. Then it hits me that he’s talking about Washington D.C., not Washington state. I always mix those up!
Anyway, we’re here to talk about Roanoke, Virginia. It isn’t really described much in Covington’s book as the story takes place in Elliott, Virginia, which I believe is a made up small town not far from the larger city. In fact, Roanoke itself has a mere 97,000 people that call it home (as of 2010, as noted here). Seeing the images of Roanoke makes me think of a smallish city, …
