Interview with Tamara Morgan + Giveaway

Today we are happy to welcome to BLI contemporary romance author Tamara Morgan, whose debut novel Love is a Battlefieldd is a romance full of fun, men in kilts and one of the most determined and entertaining battle of the sexes (check out my review here)! Please give Tamara a warm welcome and read on to learn more about her, the novel and the Highland Games! 😉

Stella: Hi Tamara, welcome to Book Lovers Inc! Can you please tell us a bit about yourself?

Tamara: Thanks for having me! I’m a freelance copywriter by day and a romance writer by night—both of which mean I spend quite a bit of time on my computer. Sadly, this makes my life a lot less interesting for an interview than one would hope.

But I will say that I am a total re-enactment junkie. I love to attend Renaissance fairs, Highland …

New Releases: April 8 – 15, 2012

Royal Street (Sentinels of New Orleans #1) by Suzanne Johnson

As the junior wizard sentinel for New Orleans, Drusilla Jaco’s job involves a lot more potion-mixing and pixie-retrieval than sniffing out supernatural bad guys like rogue vampires and lethal were-creatures. DJ’s boss and mentor, Gerald St. Simon, is the wizard tasked with protecting the city from anyone or anything that might slip over from the preternatural beyond.

Then Hurricane Katrina hammers New Orleans’ fragile levees, unleashing more than just dangerous flood waters.

While winds howled and Lake Pontchartrain surged, the borders between the modern city and the Otherworld crumbled. Now, the undead and the restless are roaming the Big Easy, and a serial killer with ties to voodoo is murdering the soldiers sent to help the city recover.

To make it worse, Gerry has gone missing, the wizards’ Elders have assigned a grenade-toting assassin as DJ’s new partner, and undead pirate Jean …

Guest Post: The West of Want Preview & Prizes Event by Laura Kaye + Giveaway

We are very happy to welcome Laura Kaye here at Book Lovers Inc today. She has great news to share about her next release West of Want and she also brought a great giveaway along with a bunch of chance to win great prizes. Please give Laura a warm welcome.

Happy WEST OF WANT Preview & Prizes Event, everyone! Today, April 10, was the original release date for Book 2 in my Hearts of the Anemoi series, West of Want. And then some really cool things happened: my publisher, Entangled Publishing, signed a huge deal with the nation’s biggest book distributor, which means for the first time ever, my books will be shelved in brick-and-mortar bookstores. And then, West of Want received a very nice pre-sales estimate by the booksellers and Barnes and Nobles bought it for all their stores nationwide (and it got bought for airports, too—squee!). The only bad news in this whole …

Sunday Cravings

Hello Book Lovers all around the world! How are you today? Enjoying yourselves much? Hope you are! There’s nothing better than a beautiful Sunday morning, browsing your favorite sites while enjoying your favorite beverage! At least for me 🙂

The upcoming week is a quiet one. At least as far as book releases are concerned! There are a couple of interesting titles hitting the shelves, but nothing huge. So, let’s start with this week’s Sunday Cravings!

Stella: Bound to Me by Jocelynn Drake

Mira, the heroine of Jocelynn Drake’s New York Times bestselling Dark Days series, has been a nightwalker for centuries, traveling the globe as an enforcer for a secretive, powerful organization. In Bound to Me, for the first time, we travel back into Mira’s distant past to see the great love affair that shaped her.

I love Jocelynn Drake’s series but I’m quite far behind (only at book …

Around the Bookish World: News-Week-in-Review

Happy Easter and Passover to everyone who is celebrating or not but  enjoying the goodies or the time off! This week we have news of a potential settlement about the anti trust investigations with Agency pricing, as well as the usual tidbits author news and upcoming books!

Reports this week, suggests that there might be an agreement with the investigation into Anti-trust issues with Agency Pricing and the publishers and Apple. The Department of Justice has offered a cooling off period for 6 months which the publishers can arrange a proper Agency structure which entails them to add DRM, offer books and taxes and package them together and then offer to online sellers. However Penguin and Macmillon are the only two big publishers who are holding out, because they have argued that the current system is a true Agency Model.

The BookSeller is also reporting that the EU will also …

My Wishlist: The “You Haven’t Read That Yet??” Edition

Greetings, fellow book lovers!

I’m coming to you today with a terrible confession. Though I’ve read hundreds of genre fiction books over the last few years, there are a few wildly successful/popular/beloved books and series that I’ve just not even touched. In such cases, when I mention to someone, “yeah, I’d really like to read that one,” I get a blank stare or disbelieving reply. “Uh…how can you not have read this yet?!”

I still can’t account for why that is. There are certain authors and series that I know I’ll love, if not from the first book, then after a few installments (such was my love affair with Anita Blake, from about book 3 to…maybe 16).

Hopefully, admitting the glaring holes in my reading resume will serve as the motivator needed to check the series out. With any luck (read: concerted effort), the following books will be read in no time.

Guestpost by Author Dakota Banks + Giveaway

We are very happy to welcome Dakota Banks back here at Book Lovers Inc. Her latest novel in her Mortal Path series, Deliverance, was released at the end of March and today Dakota is here to tell us about her heroine Maliha Crayne and what makes her the kick ass woman she is. Be sure to leave a comment for a chance to win the awesome prize pack Dakota brought along. Please give her a warm welcome.

One thing that contributes to an action-packed book is the ability of the main character to kick butt when necessary. In the Mortal Path books, Maliha Crayne, former wife, mother-to-be, and healer in Colonial times, has become a superbly skilled assassin. What? How did this transformation come about?

After being wrongly accused of witchcraft and other crimes, Maliha (then known as Susannah Layhem) was abandoned by her husband and friends …

Romance and Me: The InstaLove Connection

Hey Everyone!

Today I thought I would talk to you about pet peeves. Romance novels certainly have quite a few of the usual clichés (soulmate connection, misunderstanding crisis, big love declaration at the end, etc.) and we romance lovers tend to tolerate and even enjoy them at times. However there are some that we just can’t accept.

One of those pet peeves that irritate me more than anything is the instalove connection. I’m sure you have already come across it in a novel or two when the hero and heroine meet, lock eyes and bada beem bada boom feel the Earth-shattering love, soul-deep connection after having known each other only for 5 minutes /2 days/ a week, etc. (recurring mentioning of the words destiny, fated, special bond, etc. usually appear) Any time I read this happening to a fictional couple it drives me hair-tearing-out mad.

Yep, just like …

Interview with our Guest Reviewer Marlene + Giveaway

Today we have something special planned for you here at Book Lovers Inc. We thought it would be nice for you to get to know our guest reviewers some more. Today we have an interview with Marlene and what a coincidence it’s also the blogoversary of her blog Reading Reality today. *wink*

So here’s your chance to get to know Marlene and you can even win things while doing it. Be sure to grill her in the comments to tickle out her deepest secrets. Let the fun begin.

Susi: Marlene, tell us a bit about your life outside of reading and blogging.

Marlene: What, wait a minute. There’s a life outside reading and blogging? No one told me.

But seriously, or not so seriously, I’m happily married to the love of my life. Who occasionally gets mentioned in the blog. Galen is my husband and also …
