Description:
The traveling carnival is a leftover of a bygone era, a curiosity lurking on the outskirts of town. It is a place of contradictions—the bright lights mask the peeling paint; a carnie in greasy overalls slinks away from the direction of the Barker’s seductive call. It is a place of illusion—is that woman’s beard real? How can she live locked in that watery box?
And while many are tricked by sleight of hand, there are hints of something truly magical going on. One must remain alert and learn quickly the unwritten rules of this dark show. To beat the carnival, one had better have either a whole lot of …
Morning everyone,
Today I’ve decided to discuss Soulless by Gail Carriger with a few questions to kick start your brains this Monday morning.
You can see my review of Soulless here.
Given the opportunity to become a clavinger or drone, would you do it? Why/Why not?
Alexia doesn’t mind destroying the vampire at the beginning of Soulless, was it because of the badly tied cravat or his destruction of her precious treacle tart? What dessert is worth killing over?
The comedic tone of the novel was ever present even when the novel was at it’s darkest plot-threads. Do you think this added to the depth of the novel and characters or did it trivialize the plot?
Comedy is sprinkled all throughout Soulless, even during the darkest times. Does this deepen the story or just downplay the seriousness of the situation?
Will you be reading Changeless?
Don’t forget to vote for next months book here.
And also to …

Welcome to this week’s news post! I think everyone must have heard about J.K Rowling’s secret identity being leaked online, Goodreads sued for copyright infringement and much more news in the world of books and publishing.
The huge news this week is all about J.K. Rowling’s secret identity as being debut Mystery writer, Richard Galbraith who wrote THE CUCKOO’S CALLING which was released earlier this year. But the whole story behind how her real identity being leaked is just as interesting which ranged from theories of the publisher intentionally outing the author to increase sales to Rowling herself. But the real reason was uncovered yesterday when her law firm confirmed it was leaked by one of their lawyers who told his wife who then told her BFF. The BFF then posted a coy tweet which others and papers like The Times managed to prove it was Rowling who …
Welcome back to the Book Lovers for the Prevention of Supporting Character Neglect! Where Book Lovers from across the world stand in solidarity for the supporting cast. Those individuals that make the story and keep us coming back even when the protagonist needs a good smack (*cough Buffy Summers cough*). Hear our anthem! Because everyone deserves top billing now and then.
Secondary Characters by Original Cast Recording on Grooveshark
This week we are tossing life-rafts out into Patricia Briggs’ Mercyverse. Patricia has already taken great strides to save one of the original supporting cast, with the Alpha & Omega spin off series. Tragically the spin-off (vastly superior to the Mercy books in case anyone was wondering) has only served to highlight just how fascinating all the people not-Mercy (or Adam. or Sam) truly are. This whole series …
Words and music is a new feature I am starting here at BLI, I previously used to do it at my own blog Storywings but now we would like the opportunity for you guys to share as well.
Do you ever hear a song and immediately think of a book? Do you ever see a book that immediately reminds you of a song…well I do.
Every time I see the book: The Casual Vacancy by J.K Rowling
I think of this song:
This happened more towards the middle to end of The Casual Vacancy as the characters true natures and situations started to come into the light. I started singing These Days in my head and now everytime I see Casual Vacancy on my bookshelf (which is a lot because it’s got a prime spot) I think of this Bon Jovi song.
We are very happy to welcome back to Book Lovers Inc. Karen Erickson on who we can count on to provide us with our daily romance ratio: be it sweet or sexy, Karen has it. Today she stops by to tell you about her brand new romance series about three Italian brothers, the Renaldis (of course this series is sexy, how could it be with some Italian hunk of heroes? ;-)). Please give her a warm welcome, read on to discover this new series and you could even win yourself a copy of the first book, Tempted by Her Boss! 😀
Loving the Boss
There is something so forbidden about falling in love with your boss, right? He’s the man in authority, he’s usually powerful and commanding and extremely handsome. Attentive. A little gruff, but always with good intentions. And did I mention sexy?
Okay fine, this was …
