In the spirit of the Halloween holiday, I’m asking the question, “What scares you?”

While researching this subject, I ran across a blog post about how to scare people on Halloween night written by a guy who runs a Haunted House. He says there are two kinds of approaches to scare tactics: 1) eliciting a “startle” response or 2) evoking a “fight or flight” response. Then …

Welcome back to our Saturday morning get-together, where we have the chance to discuss book giveaways, link up our own giveaways, and enter all the others.

I’ve seen mention of that awful word: snow. Now seems the perfect time to stock up on books and cozy blankets to while away the winter months. Thankfully, there’s no snow in my part of the world (yet) but it doesn’t hurt to be prepared. I’m not the only one that dreams of hibernation, right?

Let us know what your weekend has in store. Have you won anything recently that you’ll get the chance to read now? The Book Lovers would love to hear!

At Book Lovers Inc., it’s our pleasure to share the bookish love! Good luck to everyone and hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend 🙂

Around the Bookish World: News Week-in-Review

Welcome to this week’s news post and we have some goodies with upcoming clips and teaser posters from Breaking Dawn and The Hunger Games. There is also some interesting developments with Kobo who is entering the realm of publishing – they are definitely notching several arrows to compete with Amazon lately.

But first up, Kobo has announced they will be moving into publishing, it is not clear if it is just offering authors a way to self publish their work, but according to this news article it seems they will be looking into editing books and distributing them via their site. I think this is a pretty savvy move on their part.

I posted news that there was a delay that Amazon’s aquisition of The Book Depository has been delayed, well it looks like it has gotten the …

Guest Post: My Favourite Type of Mythology by Lucy Felthouse + Giveaway

I am happy to cede the blog to Lucy Felthouse who is here today to tell you ablout her new anthology project Seducing the Myth which contains more than two dozens of steamy mythological retellings or myth inspired erotic short stories. As a big dan of mythology and legends I was intrigued and curious to hear more about this project. Read on to discover Lucy’s take on myths and to get a first taste of the anthology!

One of the suggestions I was given when I organised this guest spot (thanks so much for having me here, by the way!) was to talk about my favourite type of mythology. Ever since I was a small child I’ve loved stories of all kinds; true ones, fictional ones, old ones, new ones… I’m just a sucker …

Genres 101: The Recap

We’ve had many great discussions in our virtual classroom here over the past little while, so I thought it was time to recap all of our topics before the final exam….okay, just kidding, there’s no test! But, in case you missed any, here’s what we’ve talked about to date:

Wow! We really have covered lots of ground. Of course, within each link, there are sub-genres too. With so many more books being published, in whatever form (hard copy or ebook), there are many more crossovers happening to. Is this a complete list of genres? Considering the crossover idea, probably not. What I ask today is: have we missed anything really big, …

When I was …

Write about what you know, but if you don’t know…

I loved researching “Sleeper’s Run.” Well, I love research, period. Granted, many of the themes portrayed in the story are of general interest to me, so not only did I have a good running start, but it also made the process more enjoyable. Piles of non-fiction texts, documentaries and articles informed me about history, politics, military units, tactics, technology, …

“On the Release of My Novel, Embraced by the Shadows”

Embraced by the Shadows was just released two weeks ago. But the funny thing is, I wrote the book back in the 90’s and it was previously published with a different title and cover. So this is the new revised version that has come out.

The release of this novel feels kind of strange, because my writing has evolved and changed a …
